Pep Guardiola agrees 1 year contract extension | Includes additional 1 year option

I don't think he should be sacked unless next season goes as badly as this but I do think the game is passing him by a little like what happened Jose. You either adapt of get left behind and Pep seems to be refusing to adapt. Whether he likes it or not, football is moving away from the Spain 2010 style he played a huge part in and 15 years is a long time. It's becoming more athletic and more defensive. Jose football is almost coming back.

We saw a United side today at home, happy to camp 9 men around their own box and break at pace when the opportunity arose. Even teams that play out from the back like Brighton, Bournemouth and Chelsea are much more direct in transition than City and its a noticeable weakness in Peps armour he seems to be refusing to adapt too. Having 8 players pushed to the opposition box and 2CB's on the halfway line has been found out.

He'll either adapt or he will indeed be removed from the top of the game.
And even more important. We have been shown up mulitiple times by these kind of teams playing progressive football on the front-foot this season, in-fact I'd say the only reason we are in for a shout at 4th is because every team still set-up in a low-block against us for the first 15 games this season which played into our slow style a bit more. The likes of Hurzeler, Arteta, Slot, Frank, Iraola even Van Nistelroy at the King Power stadium has had their teams play rings around us this season at times.

Partially why I am so cold towards Amorim when he came up in this thread. I have no idea how good he is, and he has got 3 good results against us this season in a low-block, with a bit of luck in Portugal and the Etihad and maybe even a bit unlucky today.

But I see us every week, and we really are there for the taking. United created some chances on the counter and had a couple of moments of extended pressure, but this is as comfortable as I have seen us in an away game this season. A more positive set-up from United and I think we would have broke under pressure. Then again we might have been able to utilise Marmoush in space more, who knows. But the midfield seems instructed to not play him no matter the space

But my point is, I think we both knew as City fans how our attack would go and how open we would be on the counter when we saw the midfield he put out

The club have spent tonnes on new players again, and they don’t look any better. Maybe it’ll click when Rodri is back again.

I remember quite a recent interview where he was asked if he watched other teams games and he laughed and said he didn’t have the energy for it anymore.

He was always quite innovative, so I wonder if it’s less about this, and more about burnout. Maybe he just doesn’t have the same intensity anymore.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he is burnt out. Pep has been around the top of the game for close to 20 years now. The list of managers who have done that is very small and Pep has always come across as far more obsessive and odd than SAF or Carlo, so it would be stranger if he wasn’t getting burnt out at this point

He does seem to be trying things but its no drastic enough. Today we tried to play a diamond with two wide strikers (Marmoush and Foden (who I forgot was playing multiple times)). We've played 4231 and 433 to try and kill different issues but the problem is the underlying principal of having too many men forward and no recovery pace. About 3 times today I thought Garnacho was gonna get in and he should have only for he had one of those days where he confused himself. Its like its clear the tactical issues run deeper than playing X formation when regardless of formation we just pile forward (and not at pace) and leave gaping holes. As he's gotten older he's gotten predictable and for all the shit Haaland gets, he covers up a huge lack of offensive creativity at City. I think he'll get next season and win or lose he'll be gone (charges stuff aside).

I agree, if United had more about them and more confidence they could have done to us what they other clubs have but.. all those other clubs have quality up top, at United Garnacho is hit and miss, while Bruno is very good he can't do it alone and the rest of their forward outside of Amad who is still potential is fecking terrible. Whats really killing me is the disinterest in players who should want it more. Kovacic playing as a 6 losing the ball trying to beat 2 players on the half turn 30 yards from our goal, instead of just rolling the ball back to the keeper. Players who have mentally checked out. Our best players the last few weeks have been Marmoush (new signing), Nunes (an attacking mid playing RB), O'Reilly (a teenage mdfielder playing LB). Its really worrying.

Amorin does play more aggressive than what we saw today but needs must and for United it was more important to not lose than win today (albeit if any team deserved to win, it was United). I think he needs to try and pick this United teams confidence off the floor. And playing well and aggressive like at Forest and still losing probably hurt. I think theres a manager in there , whether he's good enough for a big club like United I don't know but his Sporting were a joy to watch, built around players like Matheus Nunes and Ugarte etc.. Jurys still out at United, I think next season will tell a tale.

Most managers have a shelf life or peak period of less than 10 years, the fact he got to 16 with that peak intensity was a great acheievement. If City got relegated, wouldn't be surprised for him to resign and then take over a national team, then call it a day. He might only be able to muster up the intensity for every few months of a national team now.

My mate who’s a city fan of 30+ years wants to see something different at the club. Loves Pep and will rightly be a City legend but feels with the squad needing a rebuild and Pep probably leaving next summer he thinks now is a good time to part ways

But trying things with 100% intensity and focus, studying intelligently and diligently over every team and every game, is a lot different to just throwing something out there you have already done, or slight tweaking on a whim based on your experience.

That’s usually what it comes down to with managers who stay in the game long term, they are tired and unwilling and/or don’t have the energy to learn anymore. A reliance on what they have always done.

As others have said, he has been in the game, at the very highest intensity and pressure for a long time now, maybe the energy to really get in there and spend those hours scouting teams and breaking down teams approaches piece by piece, just isn’t there anymore.

I suppose he has himself to blame at least somewhat with how little he showed any interest or to at minimum feign interest in strengthening his bond with their fans but even then it's still amusing how readily they're willing to throw him under the boss after just one subpar season.

I'd be really worried about Pep if I was a City fan, he's either there because City's bosses have told him if leaves before they say he can then they'll spill some dirt on him, or he doesn't know when is the right time to call it a day, either option is only going to end badly.

He look unmotivated and out of ideas to me, dare I say it a bit like a guy that looks like the game has moved on from what he does, a bit like it did with Jose.

Maybe Vicent Kompany could be an option when he does go, Bayern obviously knew something alot of other people didn't.
I think that's terribly unfair. The City board simply haven't given him the proper backing in the transfer market. How's he supposed to field a top side with his puny budget?

„Not clever enough“ What a bizarre statement to say about the talented player you recruited…
