Paulo Dybala

If this ends in nothing but a new contract for Dybala I might cry.

I think the rate that it’s progressing can only be promising though.

It's the other way, when players wants new contract the news would be "player wants to leave". These stories are "juventus wants the player to leave"

There's a hell of a difference between drifting on the flank and being a winger. Inability to understand the difference to that is what saw a decline in Dybala's performance throughout the past years in the same way we've seen Rashford struggling when he was placed in that same situation.

Now lets say we buy Dybala and Bruno. Bruno is best utilised as no 10 just behind the strikers. Play him as a LW or as a CM and he'll become less efficient (ex at Sampdoria). Dybala is either a shadow striker or a striker. At best he's a trequartista. Similarly to Bruno he can play in a different role but he'll start losing his efficiency. So how on earth can we fit them both?

Well in my opinion, we should look at our forward line first. We've got Martial, Rashford, Sanchez, Dybala and Greenwood there aka strikers who drift on the flank. As said, Bruno is most suited as no 10, while Pogba is most suited in a 3 men CM while partnered with a box to box midfielder (Vidal at Juve/Mctominay at United?) and a Pirlo type of player. We don't have that guy so Matic will have to suffice. Considering how flanks kind of suck (runner from the championship, Jesse, Mata, Young, Sanchez whom btw is more comfortable upfront) then Id guess no one will really miss not having wingers.

Now lets have a look at defence. We've got two FBs who are defensively sound (Shaw and AWB), hopefully we'll sign a CB and we've got Lindelof. That should, on paper, be a solid defensive unit which is good enough not to need being helped by wingers backtracking.

So how should we play? Id say a diamond 4-4-2 system is the answer.

Defence: AWB-----Smalling-----Maguire-------Shaw. Its a hell of a solid unit, with AWB/Shaw closing the flanks and Smalling + Maguire winning any cross coming their way. Maguire will be the brains, Smalling will provide the pace alongside AWB.

Midfield: Matic will conduct the orchestra from the back, bringing more inches in the CB if we find ourselves being bombarded by crosses. Pogba can easily play as mezzala, a role he covered superbly at Juventus. He'll be doing what he does with us while keeping an eye to the Left flank. Mctominay will be a more hardworking/less talented version of Pogba on the RCM side.

FWD: Bruno will play as no 10, exploiting the spaces left by Dybala (Right sided striker) and Rashford (left sided striker). Meanwhile Rashford and Dybala will be strikers who'll help up the flanks when defending while moving swiftly to position when attacking. Its similar to the system Juventus used against us when they won 1-0 (Dybala goal)

So in defense we go in a 4-5-1- formation with Rashford and Dybala helping on the flanks & Bruno acting as a false 9. When attacking it goes into a diamond 4-4-2 system with Dybala, Rashy and Bruno bombarding the defence.

My problem with a 442 diamond is I'm not convinced either of our full backs are good enough going forward yet (AWB may be in time) for the system to work effectively.

Also, Matic is a huge liability, should be near the bottom of the pecking order for any of our midfield positions. I fully disagree with Smalling over Lindelof and leaving Martial on the bench too.

tbh Sarri feeling Dybala doesn't fit his style is strange, this is a man who persisted with Hazard as a false 9 over and over again last season at Chelsea and played Mertens in the same role at Napoli

Sarri adapting his style? The Ronaldo factor at work?

Chelsea didn't have good CFs and at Napoli Milik was injured after transfer season so he had no option but to try someone as CF, he did it with Mertens. It worked superbly.

This is attractive because it involves getting rid of Lukaku. But if we actually looked at the squad and the football Ole seems to want to play, would we be targeting Dybala?

Nobody gives a toss on Lukaku? He wanted Conte and Inter but now he’s going elsewhere. Not that Juve are Burnley or Brighton though and he’s probably going to get the same salary as he got at United

How does Dybala achieve this by getting a Sarri-connected Journalist to tweet, then get all the other credible outlets to tweet that Sarri doesn't want him?

Do we have any idea if we paid the extra 15m? If we haven't and recoup the 75 happy days.

Considering he’s not reached any milestones, like 50 goals, and Utd have had no success since he arrived, apart from playing in the CL, then I expect we have paid out very little of the £15m.

Most of Pep's treble winning team came from Barcelona B the same Barcelona B he worked in.
Pep was in charge of Barca B for one whole season when the vast majority of their acadamy graduates had already stepped up with CL and Euros to their name.

We'd be mental not to sign a defender, especially when we're so close to a solid defence. I think it has been reported that we're definitely getting a defender, even if it's not Maguire.
The fact we aren’t linked to any other targets makes me think Maguire must be close? Unless we are making a U-turn in the next 48 hrs.

Belgian Journalist (Kristof) said Lukaku is ok to join Juventus.

To be fair he persisted with Hazard up front because the alternatives were Morata and Giroud. They ended up bringing in Higuain just as a stop gap.

The thing I don't get more is how Lukaku fits into a team with Ronaldo.

But he will be playing alongside one of the all time greats in attack and winning at least Serie A title. He is better off in every respect compared to Inter.

Ten days before the season starts and Woodward is still p*****g about with transfers. Scenario then: Dybala, who according to the Media doesn’t want to leave Juve, is swapped for Lukaku tomorrow. Comes for a medical and agrees personal terms which will be costly. The earliest he will tip up at Carrington is the weekend leaving a few days to find his way around, somewhere to live etc etc. He is unlikely to make a difference for at least a month. Another unprofessional transfer. Looks like Pogba will be staying now too.

Not sure you can blame Woodward for this one, had Inter paid up weeks ago Lukaku would have gone and this wouldn't even be happening. As it is we have a player who wants to leave because he wont be first choice and we're being given the option of getting a better player as a replacement

If you dont know the answer to that then why are you even on this forum? Man Utd is one of the biggest football clubs in the world, with a history that goes back to 1878. They've arguably been at the top of the football pyramid for over a century. A football club with a proven track record of turning young players into worldwide superstars. How would it not be an honour to play for United?
That's all brilliant and a nice bonus when it comes to choosing your next club. However current and potential future success is far more important

There is no two way about this. Pedulla has reiterated that Sarri doesn't want Dybala. I can see this finishing only way

Teams may be scared to pay that sort of money after his poor season.

We don't have to fork that out just get rid of a player we also want to get rid of. We will hope playing him regularly he will rediscover his top form.

It's a win-win in theory.

It's just a deal that is convenient for both teams. Juventus were trying to sign Icardi for some time so instead of that they will sign Lukaku. They will let go Dybala who won't fit Sarri's tactical plans. ManUtd can get rid of player who doesn't fit how Ole wants to play.

Regarding other clubs.
Serie A - He won't sign for any other clubs

PL - Spurs were linked but they won't pay him huge wages and also the deal is a swap one, so we are ahead.
Chelsea are banned, Arsenal have spent big on other players. Liverpool and City don't need him

La Liga - Big 2 have spent money already and both clubs don't play with AM/SS.

French League - Only PSG is the option.
Thanks guys. Yeah, the timing just seems to be perfect for the deal to happen. Let’s hope we finalize it and he rediscovers his best form, because then we’ll have one of the best attackers in the league in our side.

He was involved in the academy long before that

Yeah, timing is the key. Hopefully there won't be any twists in this.

of course luk wouldnt have an issue with joining juve. it's bloody juve!

He was publicly talking about fancying a move to Italy in the future some time ago wasn't he? Juve might have been his first choice at the time.

His Instagram has gone from 32m to 32.1m over night. The power of our fans, wonder if he says no will it drop back down!

Yeah, timing is the key. Hopefully there won't be any twists in this.

The only real twist to this is would be the Sarri-connected journo is lying, right?

I mean if we expect this to go down as described to credible journo's Sarri will tell him he has no place in the team, and they want to do a swap deal with MUFC.

I think he is too slow with our new playstyle on the right.

So you would rather get Dybala instead of getting more money to invest in a CB, DM and a CM?
We need a CB and a DM without a doubt, and I don't think that would stop us getting a CB now. I don't think we've looked at a single DM other than Longstaff, so that's looking like a next summer thing. Being able to in my opinion fix our attack and provide a perfect balance of quality, the type of player he is, the position he plays in, his potential to be one of the best in the world, and the right age where he wouldn't block our most promising youngsters who are ~7 years younger than him, just by essentially swapping out a player who I dont think has ever suited us, is perfect for the attack.

What I think the situation is is that it's an either or situation with Bruno Fernandes or Dybala. That's a no brainer for me. Bruno Fernandes is nowhere near the level of Dybala, nowhere near as proven, nowhere near the potential that Dybala has if we get the best out of him. Bruno Fernandes I also feel like doesn't fit our midfield needs, nor our attacking needs. Also a massive risk in terms of going from the Portuguese league to the premier league, whereas there is much less risk with Dybala.

No, twist is Dybala not agreeing the contract with ManUtd.

I don't know how much Duncan Castles knows but all the way back in May, he said we had been speaking to his agent and told him we would bid if we sold Lukaku.
Mail in today's report said we had lined up an €80m bid as a replacement.
The notion this is a oure accident might not be true.
I will look for the Castles story.
