Paul Scholes resigns as Oldham manager | Ole invites him to Carrington

I don't care about managerial greats. The fact is that they were not doing a good job at United and they were rightfully called up by Scholes.

If you want our ex players to constantly suck up to the club then there's a club in merseyside just for this.

Where have I said I want our ex players to constantly suck up to the club?

Where have I said he was wrong to call them out over it?

I was just stating where I feel people were coming from with their posts. As I said, I don't really care myself

Don't put words in my mouth

Probably because most of the “fans” on here weren’t even following United when he played.
Both Neville’s and Giggs get the exact same treatment on here, as does Roy “just a destroyer who can’t play a pass” Keane.

Feck me I’ve even seen Bobby Charlton get slagged off on here, because apparently he’s not the easiest bloke to get along with.

100% agreed mate. Not least the part about Keane being a destroyer. Remembering him at his peak, I remember Alan Hansen describing his use of the ball as being "frightening", it was so good.

I wonder what Gary Neville thinks about this. Shouldn't a manager stay for life at a club?

Blimey all the times where he's been linked with the job and when he finally gets it he lasts seven games. Not sure why our fans are getting uptight about this, the majority wanted Mourinho gone anyway so why are they having a go at Scholes for criticising him.

Are people actually happy that one of the greatest legends of this club lost/resigned from a job at being a manager from his boyhood club?
Genuinely bizarre

That's another quote said before deciding to make a shift and defend him to stay in December. That's just negative ?

So what's that ? He slaughtered him the entire first half then when he was about to sack he decided to support him to stay, then changed it again to slaughter him for the rest of the season.

Explain this to me.
It's pretty simple.
Van Gaal is a really good manager, but it wasn't working at United.
Scholes knew this, and would say what he thought was going wrong.
Given that he said he shouldn't be sacked, I imagine he was confident Van Gaal could turn it around, which he did in a sense (brought in Rashford, won the FA cup)
It's not difficult to understand.
Like I said though, he's allowed to have a change of mind, even if he works in the media. That's how opinions work, they aren't 'stable' like you previously said, that would just be being stubborn.

Don't know why anyone would get a kick out of his failure.
Anyway, I do think understand why owners want to pick the team. Just name yourself as the manager of that's the case.

A shame for Scholes. An Oldham fan so would have been excited about taking over. I dontd follow them but it seems it wasn't going well on, or off the pitch.

See no reason to revel in it though.

I watched a phone in on BT last yr. Some Utd fan phoned in, they were talking about prices of modern days players and the host asked the caller how much someone like Roy keane would cost in modern day inflated market. Caller said and I quote " around 16 million". Part of me lost faith in humanity that day.

 Christ...

To be honest I was quite surprised by his initial appointment as manager of Oldham Athletic.
I didnt get a strong sense, when watching his interviews and punditry, that he was burning with desire to become a manager at some point.

Like Neville I think he just thought, with the Oldham job becoming available and that particular club being his boyhood team,he thought he would dip his feet into the waters and see where it takes him. Unfortunately for him and Oldham it hasn't exactly worked out.

Be interesting to see if he takes up a similar role at some point, that's ofcourse if there's a decent sized club who is willing to take a chance on him.

Live and learn.

People like Elmel Buchan etc are dicks of the highest order :)
Happy to get banned to call these assholes out for what they are. Shitting on a legend and taking delight in his failure. Just because they got too precious over comments Scholes made doing his job as a pundit. Yeah you may say scholes is a horrible manager and pundit... but to revel in his failures!? feck right off
Man gave us his entire career and help build part of the clubs legacy that you now whine over losing

Criticizing Scholes for resigning as manger is completely different from criticizing his punditry. Two different things, he was a great player a legend but his punditry was nothing to be desired for, am not saying he is right or wrong but as a pundit he didn't offer anything constructive. But Oldham didn't hire him based on his punditry exploits did they. Shame it didn't work out for both

I am sure people ridiculed and laughed at Keane too, Apples and oranges and all that i guess

People used to laugh when Giggs was suggested. He’d have done better than Mourinho.

The last season maybe. There's nothing to suggest he'd have won two pots and finished 2nd and fa cup runners up

It would be good to hear from the Oldham players about how they got on with Scholes, perhaps much later when they've left Oldham so they can speak candidly.

I must admit I never saw Scholes as a manager. We don't know just yet whether the interference line is true, a good excuse for bad management or something in-between. Yes he probably deserves jibes (he'll certainly get them so he should get ready) and of course there's irony to slating managers before lasting seven games in your first job but I take no pleasure whatsoever in seeing him struggle, the same with Neville.

Agree with this

That's what sad and annoying.

20 years of unparalleled service and yet there failures are getting cheered on by "fans" on here.
The idea this ‘failire’ means he’s a bad manager is ridiculous. Mourinho quit his first job after 7 league games, Alex Ferguson was sacked in his second job and Brian Clough last Ed how many days at Leeds? All went on to do alright I’d say. That’s just three examples to spring to mind.

The idea that not being a good manager means you can’t make judgement on other managers is undeniably moronic. I don’t think Scholes has ever claimed the job was easy.

Never saw him as a manager material. In fact don't really see him as a good pundit even. But a man has to live. So I guess punditry it is then.
At least his opinions will be heard because of his exceptional playing career.

United fans are genuinely the worst. People are enjoying Scholes failure because he criticized Jose on the TV

Nah my gripe with Scholes having a go at Pogba for his play numerous times when clearly Pogba's play was hindered by Jose's tactics. Ole coming in and letting Pogba play his natural game has proven those people wrong. Which they never really questioned if it was maybe Jose, it was always them having a go at Pogba.

He just doesn’t strike me as manager or head coach material. Maybe it’s his seemingly introverted personality but he doesn’t seem like the kind of person who could put his arm around a player or give them a bollocking. I didn’t think he’d be long there but not THAT long.

Seems ludicrous that one month and it’s all over. Reportedly over ‘board interference’. Questions probably asked to both Oldham and Scholes on why would both of them agree to work together if that was going to happen in the first place.

Your gripe was him critising Pogba's poor performances?

Weird, because just half a month later after supporting him to stay he came with this :

I've rarely seen pundits go on to be good managers. I've seen good/great managers do good punditry (SAF,Jose,LVG,Cruyff,Sacchi,Wenger) but rarely the other way around.

The only really embarrassing thing during his punditry was when Jose said he called Pogba out because he was jealous about his money. And people thought it was a good comment from Jose.

He can take a dump on a centre circle of OT after all his done as far as I'm concerned, let alone speak his mind as a pundit.

If a pundit fails in management, it doesn't mean their opinions aren't valid. The guy is a United legend who dropped into the fringes of English football to manage his boyhood club and some United fans apparently think it's hilarious that he has failed.

so much hate for the ginger prince, always a legend to me. Pretty sure he wont lose any sleep from some of these comments

Does nothing to disprove what I said, I don't think you'll ever get it, or maybe you don't want to.

Definitely will never get how you spent and entire season throwing sly criticism at a manager with things like "I will never enjoy playing under him" or "He's happy with his team being boring and creating nothing" while when he was about to get sacked midseason he decided to make a shift to support him to stay.

That's not about criticizing the manager opinions thoroughly but thinking he's a good one and should stay. He slaughtered him in a tough way then supported him when he was about to get the sack, then resumed slaughtering him in the same tough and inappropriate way.

He talks like a fan who gets an award to appear in the media not an organized Pundit who is an ex legend. He takes it to the extreme both ways which makes his opinions conflicting and contradicting.

What the absolute feck is wrong with people here! He's one of our greatest ever players ffs. Its sickening to see our fans rejoice at a failed stint by one of our greats. Has that cancer divided our fan base so much that we wish failure on our former players!

Hope he comes back to management soon enough and proves himself to be as good a manager as he was a player
People on here are not supporters they are toxic trolls. As soon as Ole starts losing a couple they will turn on him.

How the feck does anyone on here know what he was promised before hand and then can say now feck off tv?

So if he was promised no interference and thats what happened so he resigned will that make people happy or is that part and parcel of the job?

Oh well, easy to speak from those cozy studios Scholesy.

A good old reality check. Neville, Henry, Scholes. The list grows on.

It amazes me that people on here would take pleasure in this. So what if he criticised Mourinho. He was right to do so, the criticisms were correct, and the man didn't belong here.

People turning against one of our greatest ever players (and legends) because he criticised a self-serving, egotistical, negative, bitter man who never cared about the club... utter stupidity.

For having a different opinion? You wont be missed. Also lets make it clear, I am not happy that Scholes got fired I am just saying that he wasnt helpful as a pundit! But you all welt away with your conclusions.

With the opinions you have I personally can't take you serious as being a true United supporter if you're suggesting Scholes "deserves" this. That's the only part I said I can't possibly respect. Someone bashing Scholes for having a different opinion (which turned out to be correct) and being happy for his sack. Not sure if you were happy or not but you seemed to be suggesting that it serves him well.

So should political analysts also shut their mouth about politics?

You realize Messi, Ronaldo and Zidane were probably coached by coaches with lesser ability?

There's a difference between executing and intent. Mourinhos intent was defensive football. Scholes criticized it. Has nothing to do with cozy studios

Yeah but you were defending Mourinho until the very last month and then cheered on his sacking so what are you not allowed to change your opinion? Should he be stubborn like Garry? And lastly it's his fecking opinion. Is this North Korea? Be happy someone got punished for voicing an opinion?

Should be interesting to see how many fans who are celebrating this are butt hurt Jose fan boys.
