QPR couldn't really let Nelsen go but they did.

I think if Scholes asked then Fergie would let him go. However, I don't think he will ask to leave.

QPR are a sack of shit, fighting to secure enough points to avoid relegation whilst we are Manchester United challenging for top honors in three competitions.

They also singed Tal Ben Haim & Christopher Samba to bolster their central defense. We lost Fletch for rest of the season and Jones for a reportedly a month now.

This, he aint going anywhere until the season is over :wenger:

Where is Scholes? Is he hurt, being rested, slowly being fazed out again? As far as I'm aware he didn't even travel to Madrid and he's barely featured at all recently.

Just guessing here but maybe he is been given a few weeks off in the hope that he can have an impact at the end of the season.

Getty pictures of training showed him around.

And slight tangent but, same set showed Ando being his normal nutter self.

I think so too.

Physically he's not able to play as much as Giggs imo.

Say we are playing really well for the first half, get a lead, stop playing for goals in the second half and start panicking at the 65 min mark. This is where we need Scholes.

We have been guilty of this so many times this season. I know Scholes doesn't have the legs and is a red card waiting to happen, but he doesn't panic when he gets the ball under pressure no matter how slow he is. And he will find the best option 90% of the time.

He is technically as good as the spanish wizards. Sometimes you need a calming presence to make a little turn or make a little run into space to receive a pass.

Scholes is still the best English player for this and the best on United.

I think he will feature against Reading, and in a couple of the league games we have against lower end of the table sides in the run up to the Man City match.

I don't agree with that. What you say would be true if we were playing the likes of Tottenham at Old Trafford but its Madrid at the Bernabeu. We need players who are energetic, mobile and good when we don't have the ball, which is likely most of the time.

I agree that we need mobility and energy for Real but what if we are protecting a lead? We have been panicking seeing out games to lower table sides. Very concerning.

Sir Alex said he will be back next week on Friday. Is coming back from Injury, so might have started training. The interview was on the official website before the Everton match. Think he said that he has injured his knee IIRC.

Re: the Scholes thread. Was just driving home and XFM reported that he's been struggling with a knee injury, hence the absence from Madrid tomorrow.

Yes SAF mentioned he's had a knee injury. It was buried away in an article on the official site which I can't find now. He might have trained but he's obviously not ready for such a big game.

He's played 357 minutes of a possible 1440 in the past two months.

Over a congested fixture period you have to think that he's been phased out a bit now in favour of the younger players. Like someone said above, hopefully it's Fergie managing him and making sure he has a fresh set of legs for when the heat is on come squeaky bum time.

Think he is being rested to make sure he is ready for the next 2 months, I think we all know this is probably it for him after this season so he and Fergie will want to make sure he goes out strong.

Not sure if he is being phased out, but with the emergence of the Carrick/Cleverley partnership becoming our first choice option he has finally slipped down the pecking order and we can afford to rest him far more. That and he has been injured so hasn't been available for a few weeks.

It's possible, looking at how good he was last season after a few months out, that we're giving him lots of rest in hope he finishes the season well. But I also think we need to consider the possibility he's left out because we're a better team with other players.

Could be out for another 2 weeks with a knee Injury according to SAF.

Is this his last season? I don't think we depend on him as much obviously this season. Maybe it's better for both parties to move on? Him back to coaching and us maybe signing a new midfielder or giving Powell more chances?

Has Scholes played, since a 12 month contract would have expired in January this year? Just a thought.

He signed until the end of the season when he came back last January, not a 12 month deal. He signed a one-year deal in the summer.

Ok Cheers. Just thought it was funny how he's not even been making the squad.

Came off the bench against Fulham in the Cup. Other than that he's gone to see a knee specialist.

He'll retire in the summer, until we recall him midway into next season again.

Giggs will keep carrying on.

It makes perfect sense to rest him loads on the evidence of what he was like coming out of retirement. What you say is true, we are better with Carrick and Cleverley. But the Scholes we had 12 months ago is certainly a good option to have around.

Ah, I missed him being injured. Has SAF come out and made any other comment in the last 2/3 weeks?

I was wondering if the Queen sent him on a spy mission or something, he's harder to spot than an honest politician.

Will pop up from Nowhere and play against Madrid ? :wenger:

He'll score the winner against Madrid... retire at the end of the season and come back the season next with Fergie telling everyone that he didn't stop training with the team.

Is he even back in training? Last I heard, SAF mentioned we had sent him to a specialist as his knee wasn't getting any better.

My theory is this, SAF saw just how well Scholes did last year returning after a long rest due to his retirement and seeing his performances deteriorate this season, he probably wants to give him a long enough rest to try and get him back to his best for the crucial last few games of the season. This 'injury' is just to stop the media having a field day. It wouldn't surprise me on bit if his injury only clears up late march.

Sure hope you are right. He is still a class act when fit! He played quite well at the start of the season, didn't he?

I thought today was the kind of game where his influence is missed, his ability to control the tempo and calm things when in possession was what we needed to settle down and stem the Chelsea momentum in the 2nd half.

Or he would have been swamped like the rest of the team. Scholes in his prime would have made a huge difference. This season's Scholes... I don't know.

Well that's why I think we could do with bringing in a younger midfielder in the Scholes mold this summer, but for 30 minutes I still think he would have had a positive affect today.

Would definitely have been a positive today. I mean Cleverley was awful in the second half and we needed someone to calm us down. Hell even make one of those dodgy tackles of his to help us wake up and give some distribution out wide under pressing.
