Did Mourinho actually say "my club is trying to do everything to close the market by the August 14"? If yes, how are people here so sure that it's going to be done in next few days? It sounds like we could be waiting another week for this.

Because he added "Normally next week we will have our squad closed."

Another way of saying all of the transfers will be sorted by the Bournemouth game imo.

Yes he said that

IF Pogba is due back to Juve on Sunday, I just can't see how something won't be confirmed before then. Although I think it's BS Sky did say he would be in Manchester on Saturday, so we shall see.

For all this talk about marketing exposure etc, I think we / Adidas would be missing a huge trick not to have him at the game on Sunday.

I think that has been proven to be incorrect.

Plus as the buying team, surely it would be down to us?

Still expect him to be announced by Sunday as this is when he should be back in training with Juve.
I wonder where he is supposed to report to Juve on Sunday? As a weird little twist of fate, both United and Juve are playing in London on Sunday, the day he is supposed to return to Juve if a sale is not yet complete.

Whether with the team in London or at the training ground in Italy, I can't imagine Juve wanting him to report with everything hanging over the situation, so you would think that they would try to get everything signed today or tomorrow. Doesn't mean we'll announce it right away, though. I suppose he also could just not report to Juve if the paperwork isn't signed.

Wenger was quite diplomatic, he said something along the line of 'it's insane unless you can afford it, it's huge compared to the ordinary'

I thought it very interesting that he said if you can afford it then you can justify it. Almost as if he accepts theres very little that he can say regarding it as a)its our money and b) we can afford it.

From what I have seen it is Turin, though this saga has ground us all into the ground so who knows.

It's obviously possible for him to report back to Juve, but logically you would have thought something will be announced later today / tomorrow.

Finally some concrete news with the jose comments after a very slow week on the pogs return front. Exciting weekend ahead.

He said that date because the league starts then. Its not a deadline of any sorts. Just saying we will conclude our business by the time the league starts. It could be anytime between now and then.

Yeahh you can tell Jose is just like the rest of us wants it done and him training with the squad. I enjoyed the bit at the end when he started talking about who we've brought in and said we're going to add a top quality midfielder to the squad :D

All of this is pointing at us signing pogba, specially with the latest Mourinho's comment, if any he is the real and most trusty ITK (I mean, he's the manager of the buying club)

Head - Done dealio
Heart - Done Dealio
Circumstances - Done dealio
Trauma caused by vidal/sneijder/thiago/etc - It's not over till Pogba is in our shirt.

Yeah jose comes across as a tease.gives us all the hints and clues but stops short of naming the player because its against his morales.it makes great viewing watching him say he doesnt talk about other clubs and their players considering his well known past.

So it's another 48 hours.....

Just saw this on twitter and made me giggle.

"Just popped to the United megastore and asked if I can get Pogba on the back of my shirt.

They said "No, come back in 48 hours..."

Get over it, it will be a terrific transfer for the club.

Buying back our own player is what makes this strange. Which we've known about for ages. Why are you getting additionally wound after just finding out he's "home-grown"? The regulations mean home-grown players are more valuable. So usually come at a premium. This fact makes the price seem less steep, not more.

Lads at no point have I gotten wound up or objected to the transfer on the basis of the homegrown element. I was just discussing that aspect today. Strange you both thought I was!

They have a 110 year old called Barry writing up the contracts he's never used a computer before, he keeps forgetting where the keys are. He's typing a 30 page document, bear with him.

The contract will be done within 48 hours, including nap time.

I guess if he's on holiday there was no rush to get them done until he returns. Ergo tomorrow.

It might still be concluded early next week, but if Mou was confident of that, he would say so wouldn't he? If it was only a matter of flying him in and taking pictures, wouldn't the manager say something like "we will try to bring in the player early next week(or next couple of days) so he can at least train for a week before the start of the season."

That is really just so stupid

In theory it quite clearly does. Gill/SAF is not Woodward/Mourinho and they do not operate in the same manner either. Looking past this just to argue over one word is completely missing the point.

Manchester United is Manchester United. Regardless of who the manager is.

That's how I see it, though I would argue that Muller, Neymar, Bale - all these players were offered World record bids which were all declined.
Pogba bid seems to have been accepted.

Agreed.. though it would seem appropriate for the thread to be left open until the summit is reached, regardless of the (somewhat inevitable) outcome!

What kind of midfield do you feel will suit him best? i.e. other players etc.

Kroos and Kante but that's out of the question, at United though, Herrera (high pressure) and Schneiderlin (screening back four) but I do think Schneiderlin could be replaced.

Nah we've employed the same person who wrote the Magna Carta

First post in the main forum. Haven't posted in a long time. I'm sure this has been said but I haven't heard this rationale much.
While it does sting a little paying mega money for a player we let go for peanuts, when I look at the net spend I feel a little better about the Pogba signing fee. Pogba + Mkhitaryan + Bailly + Ibra = 156 million ish? I see Mkhitaryan as having a much higher value than 26m, And Ibra even at his age would still command a value of say 20+ million if he had been under contract? I'd rather have it this way than throwing around 30mil x 5 on a bunch of punts. I hope it pans out and = trophies.

Been without any connection for 2 days and nothing on return...I've enjoyed this thread. Bit like the original national lampoons vacation. Wally world is open. Will not punch the moose.

Can't think of any players similar to Pogba past and present. He has a few characteristics similar to Vieira but Pogba plays very different in the final third.

He's sort of a hybrid of Yaya and Viera in their respective primes, except a bit better.

Who is Pogba most similar to in the PL from last season? (I haven't seen much of him)
He's hard player to describe or find similar players for. The best I can do is that he's a more nimble, stylish, fleet footed and tricky version of pre-lazyness Toure without being as brutally strong as he was. Like Toure, I'm not convinced Pogba suits a 2 man midfield but rather needs to be given the liscence to roam Lampard style.
