just dont think mourinho will be happy with only one proper midfielder. We have seen a few iterations of his premiership teams and they have had a stronger defensive spine than CDM, rooney, pogba

I'm not sure how you are struggling.

There will be a CDM next to them. Rooney and Pogba will be the box to box midfielders.

I don't think Rooney is getting dropped at the start.
That could be true but then we will have Mata, Herrera, Fellaini, Carrick, Bastian and that's assuming Morgan is playing as a CDM or else even he will be on the bench. I do hope we start moving some of these deadwood off quickly.

Think Jose will want preseason to assess who fits and who doesn't into his system.

fecking Rooney. enough is enough. he has to go.

I still refuse to believe this could happen. Having said that I do believe the rumours about Perez not being that keen are true due to the usual media circus the Spanish press are when Madrid are after a player or lack thereof. Wouldn't even surprise me if Madrid were put off as he isn't the flavour of the month as he was expected to be. Probably will just stay at Juventus and then join Barcelona when they have their finances sorted out in a season or two, that's my prediction.

Meeting taken place yet?
Meeting probably won't happen for a while yet and we'll most likely only receive any of the information from it either tonight or tomorrow, basically when Raiola decides to tell Di Marzio.

This is going to take a while lads, even if there is a meeting today. Juventus doesn't want to sell and will only do so if they get a world record deal. And Raiola wants the biggest commission ever given to a football agent. This could take a while unless Woodie goes full Floyd Mayweather and starts making it rain with cash in the meeting room.

Aren't Real obviously ahead of us in the pecking order for this deal?

Why is it a big if? They bought James for 80m and Bale for 100m

You already wrote the answer. They don't have the appetite and the room to fit in another 100m player right now unless they get crazy money for James which I feel is a bit unrealistic this time round.

We already have had one iteration of us buying their rejects at a premium and then burning our fingers in the process. Unless Pogba agitates for a move, I don't see this going anywhere.

remember when they sold Ozil to buy Bale?

If another stupid team doesn't pony up the money for James, they won't buy Pogba.

So, hopefully, no one bites at James and Pogba listens to Mourinho and comes back. the big bad Fergie is gone and Papa Jose will take good care of you, Pogba.

Finally, this Manchester or Madrid argument is tiring. Not everyone wants the same things, some players will require champions league football, some will want sun, some will want money, everyone is different. Just because you think Madrid is better than Manchester does not mean it is a universally held opinion.

Do you seriously believe we won't be used to get a better deal? It happens every summer.
And all three of the above you can have at Madrid. I just don't think Pogba has such great feelings for us that would make him turn down Madrid. It's not like he'd be coming back to his boyhood club at United.

I'd love him to come back but I'm being realistic.
Tell that to Barcelona, AC Milan, Juventus, Manchester United, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Boca Juniors, Santos etc.

Football is not bloody banking.
The majority of the best players in the world who are not UK born would turn us down or might come here harbouring ambition to end up at Madrid. Varane rejected us (if the press are to be be believed) and Christiano Ronaldo couldn't resist. Brazilian Ronaldo (via inter) and Figo risked venom Barca to Madrid

EPL has come a long way. it's the biggest league, the most money, the most viewership.

any player not wanted by Barca and Madrid will come here, especially with Mourinho at helm. and if we win a ucl in the next 5 years, we will be able to compete with Madrid and Barca.

I'm quite sure Real can afford a 100m EUR player a year if they so wished.

I quite agree with you. Of course they can since they are indirectly funded by the Spanish Govt. My opinion is that they don't have the appetite right now given their last Galactico is currently sitting on the bench and there is already enough friction in the dressing room between Bale and Ronaldo. I reckon they need to sell to get in another superstar 100m player.

I'd agree with that point of view if Pogba were to be in direct competition for any of those players. He'd in the midfield 3 with Modrid/Kroos & would just displace Isco. I think Real are way ahead of us and am pessimistic of our chances personally!

Sadly I think you're right. This is just a case of us getting our hopes up then Madrid coming in at the last minute and sweeping us aside.

I write it again, it seems that Madrid isn't all in on Pogba as it was with Bale or Ronaldo in the past. There's simply not the same kind of positive press coming from Madrid about the player. A lot of focus on him not being a player worth that much money and not being an upgrade over either Kroos or Modric.

And it's true as well. I don't think he will leave for the figures mentioned mind.

after another poor performance in the euro's from Pogba, has any one actually watched him be the stand out performer in a game ? i must have watched around 25 games with France and Juventus in the last 18 months and he seems a rather over rated player.

I think he has the complete package technically and physically. He has all what is needed to be one of the best and most complete players in world football. And he's young, so it can still happen. Question is, will he put it all together? That remains to be seen. If you're going to spend an amount with 9 digits on a player, that would be a heck of a gamble.

I'd love to see Pogba under a coach like Simeone who could light a holy fire under him and get him to believe 100 % in himself

From what I've seen this tournament Kroos and Modric are the superior players.

Pogba will add more firepower to their midfield. Last two seasons
Pogba 20 goals and 20 assists in 90 games
Kroos and Modric 7 goals and 30 assists in 168 games

I think United are a very strong option. We can talk about no CL - for now - but the fact is the premiership next season is going to be sensational. Probably not on the European front. In the league though we've seen some great managerial appointments. We're seeing a spread of talent amongst numerous clubs. There is no respecter of reputation in England. As soon as Sir Alex retired, clubs attacked our fear. So the premiership will be highly competitive and that's exciting. I would think Barcelona (depending on what we do down the line), would be more interesting then Madrid but you never know. We do have a few advantages. He's already played here. He was settled. He has friends here. He's got so much to prove. His agent is dealing a fair bit with United at the moment - and is influential...and owes us one for nicking him from the club in the first place.

That said, the world doesn't end at Pogba so there are plenty of options.

If we did sign him (still a pretty big if), at least it would - for once and for all - dispell the myth that you definitely need Champions League football every single year to buy the top players.

You just need to be a CL type club.

Don't know how reliable they are but La Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting we're prepared to offer Pogba £192k a week and pay £100m.

There's not a chance of this happening. We'll make a ludicrous bid and he will join Madrid instead.

Who is prepared to offer world record bids and insane wages.

Obviously, but we were always going to do that - CL or no CL.

This is just a response to the amount of posters that said no CL football would definitely mean that we couldn't sign the so called "top class" players... though the irony I suppose is that I don't think Pogba is top class yet.
