Do you want Pogba for £100 million?

There comes a point when we all need to ask ourselves, is Ed delaying this so RedCafe can break the Vidal transfer thread record?

Hey, this is my theory!
I posted the same thing 2 days ago. Please don't plagiarise. :D

What? At his peak....he openly flirted with both while at United. Yeah so no, he didn't really "choose" United over them, they were the best option on the table for his career at the time, and quite frankly were probably the ones that offered up a serious transfer anyway. Sorry to kill that one.

Not sure many elite players have truly chosen United over Real or Barca. But I still don't think Real are seriously after Pogba anyway, but open up Kroos or Modric if they want him, I'll happily take one of them in his loss.

I just don't understand how the same journalists are saying the transfer is all but done, but Madrid are still in it.
Hedging their bets. If we get him, they can say "told you it was done, the Madrid stuff was just last-minute desperation". If he goes to Madrid they say "told you that Madrid shouldn't have been ruled out".

Cheaper and arguably better at this point in time. Kroos a very different sort of player, of course.

I'm referring to when he signed for us numpty :) It is irrelevent. We can talk about his peak but the reality is most people were happy with Ronaldo from 18-24. They were good years. Someone like Ronaldo would favor spain as it's more like home. People need to get it through their head - that not everyone dreams of Spain. That's the point.

Some people have an attitude that we shouldn't even try

Because it is impossible to prove otherwise, and they can look clever if it does come off. Madrid can still be 'innit' up until the clubs make the official announcement and the player holds up the shirt.

It seems that the idea "Pogba prefers Madrid but Raiola United" has spread in Internet.
Although Florentino has good friends in the press I think that some posters overvalue the influence of the club in the press. As other posters I would trust more if Marca had a cover but they were very confident about Gomes and we know what happened.
I still can't see Madrid paying so much but knowing that United is going to break the record for him Pogba could have give them a public nod.
His silence + the delay of the signing give weight to the version that he is waiting for Madrid. Do you think that United-Juve have been a week negociating the extra 10m€?

And why do you think that? Need I bother reminding you that United is not a small club, or do you enjoy having the small-club mentality?
I don't have small club mentality, we are the greatest club on the planet. Which is partly why we shouldn't waste any time on players that don't want to be here.

6th Aug can't be right surely? I know players who made the latter stages of the Euros are allowed back to training later than others, but that would give him practically no pre-season at all. When does Serie A kick off?
When does his holiday finish?? Then maybe??

I guess I'm a bit young to really compare the SAF of 93 to the one that chose not to field Pogba, I just think there were very legitimate reasons not to, that we choose to ignore.
The rest is a matter of appreciation, I didn't see anything to suggest Pogba would have been better than the retired-Scholes then, or on what basis he was supposed to give him a "punt", when it was clear as daylight he couldn't cope with the rhythm. It is also completely ignoring the context, despite our midfield woes we were challenging for the title, that isn't the moment to give a young inexperienced player (that showed he can't cope with the pressure) game time in a box-box role that you even claim isn't his best position.

Again a matter of appreciation, unlike you who thinks Pogba had some good games, I thought he played poorly througout the Euro tournament, his best moment being the 5mins where he ditched the German Right-back to put in a good cross that was converted. Sorry mate, but most of us frenchies (or the ones around me) are actually quite disapointed in Pogba's tournament.

Though I think the crux lies in what you say : "play an attacking CM" role. That isn't the role that was free back then at United, rather a box-box/ dcm role which as you point out he is poor at even today. The question is, are we buying him to play as he is currently setup at Juve? or is he supposed to be a midfielder? I'm guessing, and hoping, Mourinho will play him like he did Lampard; otherwise I'm ready to be very disapointed.

Where I join you, is that I can't believe Darren Gibson and Tom Cleverly got more game time than Pogba or even Petrucci whom I thought would be really good as a proper central midfielder were he properly groomed.

Cheers a much more balanced post than the initial response. Appreciated.

Thing is SAF took punts on young potential in his earlier United years which is why we had the class of 92. And we still won with those youngsters. I honestly don't think Pogba was given a fair chance, especially when compared to similar talented youngsters SAF had in years gone by. That's my point. Yes, in the few minutes he was given he didn't exactly set the world alight. I expected SAF to have said to Pogba 'Listen lad, I think you're very talented but I need you to show it to me. I will give a you run for about 5 games or so since we're short on players at CM etc' He didn't and that was where it all fell apart with Pogba who is a player who believes in himself. It would have been akin to if Ronaldo came through our academy but SAF didn't really want to give him a proper run in the first team even though the potential was glaringly obvious. Like I said, it's not something that can be wished away. It was one of SAF's few failures in terms of player management in his illustrious career. There's actually only one other example I can think of where SAF got it wrong with a player and that was letting Stam leave too early. However, we kept winning like you said so it's no slight on SAF in any event. He achieved his goals regardless. But I'm not naive to pretend he didn't mismanage Pogba. And like you said others like Gibson and co got more of a look in than Pogba.

Also in terms of Pogba's role, he's an attacking CM but can be converted to a Box to Box with the right management. I think Mourinho can give that and SAF would have been able to as well. I think it's harsh to point to just that during his United time. I think you're right in terms of the Lampard role for Pogba, at least that's my hope as well.

His silence is his respect for Juventus, just like Ronaldo didn't openly say anything about leaving United besides "Only god knows".

Plus at that time SAF and Ronaldo had an agreement, with Pogba he doesn't want to say he will leave, but wants to. The deal is held up because he's on Holiday in Miami.

It's been agreed with the player for a long time, since the Euros, the deal with the clubs has been the most recent thing. The player has wanted to leave all summer. He's not waiting for Madrid.

Keep telling yourself that. It won't be long until the likes of Hull City and David Moyes's Sunderland are bossing you in the transfer market too

No we are most likely waiting for Juve to complete the Higuain transfer and for Pogba to return from holiday. You can't rule out Madrid at any point though.

I reckon Juve are just spending the money to start the season well, before they release Pogba. Same with what Spurs did a few years ago, only they are actually buying well.

It's kinda weird that you lot see breaking the thread post record for a transfer as some sort of accomplishment. It's like thinking you've achieved something by sitting on your arse more than you ever did before. Sure, it's a record, but ultimately it's achieved nothing other than you being a sad bastard.

thing is with modern technology we could actually be out doing all sort of fun things (like playing PokemonGo) while at the same time posting in record breaking threads. I myself am currently performing open heart surgery on conjoined quadruplets while rebalancing my stock portfolio.....ooops make that conjoined tripl....twins now.

Photoshop photoshop photoshop. Photoshopping crowds.

That's all I think of when I read "Marca". Of course they'll insist that Pogba "dreams of Madrid". I personally think that it's all bullshit.

Of course they haven't - it's down to who pays certain percentages of what Raiola is due. Understandably, clubs are in disagreement given the amount of money at play.

I think you over estimate Madrids involvement.

Dude, take your kids to a heart surgeon instead of attempting it yourself, that sounds pretty serious.

Read more than the first sentence before calling someone a numpty, since I clearly knew you were referring to then and acknowledged it.

No offence but I did. United look for a certain profile. Madrids galactio 'concept' is devised on players that are in their prime. Ruud was 25 when he signed for United. He turned down Madrid. It don't really matter how people look at it. He was top drawer from day one.

We never went down their route and their spending over the years, was MORE then we were willing to spend. It worked for them because they put their money where their mouth is. So if you are not going to spend the money, you cannot hope to buy the player. We would have got Batistuta if not for the wage cap we had in place.

Uniteds strategy has clearly changed now.

Some people are just negative and will turn everything negative and will jump on anything negative said. Some people are just plain stupid. Ronaldo signed for us over Barcelona, Madrid and others. You can't win them all. Clearly certain markets favor us and certain ones don't. Rafael was Brazilian but never once mentioned a Spanish club. It comes down to the people but some folks can't get past generalizations and all that nonsense.

Hmm...not sure that Ronaldo is the best example of our being able to rival the pulling power of Real Madrid given where he's currently plying his trade, and with all respect to Rafael I don't recall him having that choice to make.
Our ability to attract relatively unproven rough diamonds like Ronaldo, and dare I say Martial, is not the same as being able to say that we can compete with the lure of Real or Barca for an elite player that either of them genuinely want.

I don't think you did, or at least you replied as if you didn't. There legit isn't much to go on to suggest there were real advances for Ronaldo from Real or Barca at the same time as us, especially since one had just signed the player he was bought to replaced and the other beat United to the first choice that summer(I hint at this in the post you mostly ignore btw). The same for Ruud, very little suggests they were in for him in either 2000 or 2001, at least they seemingly scouted Ronaldo along with others.

I'm not all negative on United being a bit lower in the dream club order, it's simply how it is for continental players. They've grown to be 3rd quite easily though, which is why players are joining now thanks to a good manager also with no CL for a year.

If Pogba doesn't want to come to United then good riddance. If we are bending over for this guy then we should be ashamed. When Fergie was at United, no player was bigger than the club. Now guys like Di Maria, Pogba are taking the club for a ride. Here the guys are like"Hey, we a big club, let's show Madrid.Let's spend money"

If we are a big club, we need to prove on the field. Not by wasting at least 60-70 million GBP (he might be worth some 30-40 odd) on some showboating prima donna. Everyday i hope we reach some conclusion and this nonsense in the media is over, but it keeps going on and on.

He can wait all he wants, but he's not coming here as long as pizza guy is his manager. United is offering twice the salary of Modric and Kroos and world record transfer fee. If Perez agrees to that for a player we don't need, there goes team chemistry out the window in a second.

Rooney says hi.

He might be worth £30-40 million? You clearly have been living under the rock for the past 5 years. Now any decent player costs £30 million.

Or the silence + delay could be that United and Juve as still negotiating and Pogba has been told to keep quiet until everything is done?
There has never been one report of the delay being on Pogba's end. It's always been on the side of Juve and United negotiating according to people like Di Marzio, GdS etc... Now due to the few tweets and reports about Real wanting Pogba and not willing to pay for him, people are speculating that Pogba is holding things up to see if Real can come to an agreement.
Seems like this transfer is becoming dull, so people are looking for anything and saying anything to give it a bit more excitement

If this deal isn't done this week then it will never happen. I don't subscribe to this notion that in this day and age, where everyone owns a smart phone and is constantly connected to the Internet, it takes 5 days to negotiate an agents fee.

Still, I'm staying optimistic. Unveiled on Wednesday. :D
