I guess I'm a bit young to really compare the SAF of 93 to the one that chose not to field Pogba, I just think there were very legitimate reasons not to, that we choose to ignore.
The rest is a matter of appreciation, I didn't see anything to suggest Pogba would have been better than the retired-Scholes then, or on what basis he was supposed to give him a "punt", when it was clear as daylight he couldn't cope with the rhythm. It is also completely ignoring the context, despite our midfield woes we were challenging for the title, that isn't the moment to give a young inexperienced player (that showed he can't cope with the pressure) game time in a box-box role that you even claim isn't his best position.
Again a matter of appreciation, unlike you who thinks Pogba had some good games, I thought he played poorly througout the Euro tournament, his best moment being the 5mins where he ditched the German Right-back to put in a good cross that was converted. Sorry mate, but most of us frenchies (or the ones around me) are actually quite disapointed in Pogba's tournament.
Though I think the crux lies in what you say : "play an attacking CM" role. That isn't the role that was free back then at United, rather a box-box/ dcm role which as you point out he is poor at even today. The question is, are we buying him to play as he is currently setup at Juve? or is he supposed to be a midfielder? I'm guessing, and hoping, Mourinho will play him like he did Lampard; otherwise I'm ready to be very disapointed.
Where I join you, is that I can't believe Darren Gibson and Tom Cleverly got more game time than Pogba or even Petrucci whom I thought would be really good as a proper central midfielder were he properly groomed.
