Paul Pogba / turned down United offer of 300k as “nothing”

If Pogba decide to sit and run out his contract, we should let him rot in reserve. I just don’t care if he is not playing at all.

Absolute bollocks that you think footballers should be able to match a marathon record and use that as a basis for anything football related.

I didn't get to the pogba bit.
female world record holder for Olympic lift clean and jerk is 190kg, I'd expect any male athlete professional to get within 10% of that too tbh. I mean look at the muscles of Bruno or de gea

If we sign a midfielder or two it doesn't really matter what happens with Pogba. I just hope we get some kind of fee and he's not thinking about leaving on a free to get a fat bumper contract

If Pogba don't sign a contract this window then be needs to be sold. We can't have his chatting crap everytime we are about to play a big game.

Especially if we plan to have our first title challenge.

50m transfer fee, 280k a week off the books and no more Pogba/Raiola circus. Sign me up!!!

Whether he stays or leaves, I only have one message. I don't want to hear and witness player/agent circus anymore.

well no chance of that happening if he stays as you'll have to deal with the circus for another 4 years. I don't think you'd hear the end of the transfer saga next summer even if he were to re-sign this summer on a larger p/w salary.

IF PSG are willing to pay €60m then you take the fcking deal simple.

If he signs again it'll be another Rooney situation as he gets past 30. The signs are there already with how often and how long he is out when he's injured.

Please save me (us) from this circus. :(

Everyone is fed-up by now: every season his agent complains, Pogba wants to leave, etc. If only Pogba news were more related to his pitch performances.

There's no other way to put it: his transfer + wage costs vs output product, the ratio is going to be disapointing. He's nowhere near of what you would expect from the most expensive Manchester United player ever.

This needs sorting out bloody quick so we know if we need to replace him... but I guess will leave it til the last minute and then be surprised he goes

What about the snatch?

Getting such a deal in todays climate is unbelievable. I doubt the tweet has any roots in reality, if so its only media play by Raiola. Generate an artificially high starting position in negotiations to facilitate a better deal in the end, be it with United or on a free next summer. I’d be surprised (but not complaining) to see him sold this summer.

If I was a professional footballer I'd expect that I couldn't win over all the fans, but those most would recognise the effort that I put in for the club.

I'd accept that there might be players more skillful than myself, or that maybe have a particular set of skills that benefits it more than mine do.

I'd also accept that injuries can happen to anyone, and that sometimes recoveries can take longer than anyone would want.

But I'd find it really hard to accept that fans were so p'd off with my previous behaviour that they were so willing to ditch me as my contract wound down.

I guess I would try and work harder, or send a message out to fans like other players have done like Luke Shaw.

The silence from Pogba is deafening. He's already checked out.

Clean and jerk? Snatch?

What goes on in this sport?

On 'tracking back'.

Women's only Marathon world record is 2:17. 26 miles in 137 minutes. Running-wise, I'd expect all top male athletes to be at that level, or above.

How many miles is that over a 90 minute football match?

26 × 90 ÷ 137 = 17 miles

A top football runner like Leeds' Phillips can manage 13 miles in a 90 minute match. So, everyone is working within their limits. There's no excuse to never track-back when you're earning £1m /month. No excuse for Pogba's lapses of concentration, which lead to goals conceded.
There's a HUGE difference between a marathon which is run at a relatively slow steady speed, and any kind of sport that requires constant intense bursts of speed and acceleration. It's such a huge difference it is absolutely pointless making any comparison between them.

Good point. Difference in speed between Marathon pace to win the women's Marathon (11.4 mph) and top footballer sprint speed (~ 23 mph for fastest player) is 2-fold. I never realized the difference was so much.

that probably is not the best way for a coach to use his resource on hand. It is not his job to deal with contractual issue. He pick his best team to win a football match.

I don't care. He feck us up once when he left us as a youngster, we then bought him back for record fee, and he feck up us again, without giving his all to us during his time here. He is a scammer and stealing his living at Old Trafford.

Haha!
I’m with you on your general point but don’t you realise that a marathon is run without breaks, pauses or stoppages? I mean they literally p!ss and sh!t themselves and just carry on. Running is the only task they are carrying out.
Do you want Pogba to just run around in circles like a mentalist during every injury/throw in/sub/goal kick/free kick to keep up with marathon winning pace?

I would be interested to see how he compares in distance covered with other top players in his position though if anyone knows how to get those figures?
Would be a much better barometer to judge him by.

I am ok if Pogba is sold or if he signs with a modest increase in wage (10-20%) or leaves on a free next season.

The only scenario I want to avoid is us giving him a ridiculous package to convince him to stay like we did with DDG or when we signed Alexis Sanchez. We will have a lot of debt and players on high wages. We are also going to be spending a lot this summer (hopefully) so giving an extra large contract should be non starter.

A modest wage increase isn’t in excess of 10%, not sure what planet you’re on with that point of view? I don’t really see what he’s done to increase his worth to the team? He has no defined role and isn’t an automatic choice, I can see why the club are going to give Bruno a big pay increase, not so much Pogba. Other clubs are cutting their wage bill, he’ll find it hard to get anyone to match his current salary.

Not even 5% of footballers will ever be able to run a 2:17 marathon, even with years of training. Your disrespect of endurance athletes is staggering.

As a runner, this is the most batshit crazy post I’ve ever read on here @Mark Pawelek

3:15 per km even for a 1/2 marathon is elite male runner pace, yes that’s an elite male, who’s spent his entire career just training on running. You want all male sportsman to not just be elite half marathoners, but in the top 0.1% of all runners in the World for the marathon

To show you just how stupid that is, here’s the male national records for the marathon, a shed load of countries have never had a single male able to run that fast.

You’re basically expecting Lindelöf to be just 7 minutes behind the fastest Swedish marathoner in history. :wenger:

What has he done to deserve that modest wage increase?
