He won't maintain an 80% conversion rate for the rest of the season.

:wenger: Of course the goalscorers deserve credit. They finished the chances.
You said he had to thank the goalscorers for conversion...he didn't, he would have played them passes no matter what.

I never said the goalscorers didn't deserve credit! I actually gave them credit by saying perfect runs!

No he won't maintain 80% conversion rate, doesn't mean he shouldn't get plaudits for a superb display,
4 brilliant assists for feck sake, 4 brilliant assists.

I come here to look for words of admiration after seeing Pogba's performance today because I already run out of it , and so surprised to see there are even some comments that could call this a " so-so performance without those assist moments" . Internet amazes me every single day!
Aside all those contract extension drama, please just single out today, enjoy the performance, and give players the credit they deserve .

he has put up better clinics plenty of times. It just so happens today our forwards had their shooting boots on. I don’t know why people are so intent on acting like this is the first time Pogba played well

Every good game for Pogba is the 1st time he played well, this has been happening for years.

He got 3 assists from 26 key passes last season. And 4 from 5 this season. Which is more reflective of his overall ability?

Nobody's saying he doesn't deserve plaudits. The point is that you get the most out of him further up the pitch where he can produce moments of brilliance and hope that those moments turn into goals. As they did today.

You're giving Bruno and Pogba a designation in a formation and then saying formation in neither here nor there. Brilliant analysis.

"4-3-3" is neither here nor there considering for Bruno's goals, he was basically playing striker, and Pogba was specifically given a free role, as acknowledged by the Manager himself. So our formation didn't fit a particular mould, that's what i'm saying - if you can't see that, it's hardly my job to point it out for you.

The attempted condescension was unnecessary, however I hope it makes you good.

Unplayable on the day. Hated by a large portion of his own fan base yet puts in performances like this. Respect.

2 came in the #10 position (Bruno's first and third), 1 came on the counter (Bruno's second, when he was 20 yards ahead of the midfield line) and 1 came in the left wing position (Fred's).

None of them came from midfield.

After looking at these goals again, the space Leeds had in their midfield was ridiculous and should not happen to any PL side. That also told you that playing with one CDM can be pretty tricky. They were playing with one against our two AMs ( I believe both Bruno and Pogba were playing as 10s in something like 4-2-2-2 at times together).

Yeah. That's probably fair.

There are two teams in the league against whom you need to be most careful about drawing too many conclusions: City and Leeds. They each play a very unique brand of football with no plan B. Brilliant when they get it right; exploitable when they don't.

On the two AMs point, I think you've got a point. If not for James' lack of composure, you could have almost called it a lop-side 4-2-2-2.

I haven't disputed any of that, but he's an incredible player, definitely world class.

I have merely said that he has had a brilliant game today and that 'only' 5 key passes is actually an amazing stat.... something you've insinuated isn't.

As for the bolded part, you have described the vast majority of assists in football....

Yup. I edited it into my post. I thought it was 4-2-2-2 as well. I think Ole knew that Leeds were be leaving tons of space behind with their ridiculous man to man marking(?) and high pressing when their fitness would not be at their peak.

Kieran Tierney got 6 key passes for Arsenal yesterday.

Who says it's a conclusion based only on today's match? That's your own conclusion based on one post.

Pogba's shown what he's good and bad at over the last 5 years.
That’s what you insinuated:

That being said, the assists for Greenwood and Bruno's first goal were absolutely world class. But it shows you that he's a player who produces in moments more so than 90 minutes.

It’s a weird take from such a dominant performance.

from last season, by searching pogba unprofessional for about 3 mins.

one when he was in very good form after his comeback, one during the transfer nonsense, and the rest at the start of the season
A few numpties. Not sure why you’re all making a song and a dance about it now. Plenty of players before him have been called things like “Fergies son”, “championship player”, “stealing a living” and so on. I fail to see why it’s suddenly become such a big issue. He had 1 great game. Let’s see him play 6 or 7 in a row, a bit of consistency and these comments will die down.

Ok lads, I’m more than happy to allow you to retract your posts. . .

This thread spanning 100+ pages is symptomatic of the Cafe & the analysis of Pogba.

Your heads are literally buried up your arses if you haven’t seen posters call him those things & more.

I’m not saying all posters do but far too many do, I’ve seen you both in more than enough threads to act like those comments aren’t happening.

Myth
Thank you, I've had this discussion with another poster who swears Pogba doesn't get treated that way and it's based solely on his performances when I know all those people have been in the very same thread you linked. The only thing weirder about the ad hominem attacks on Pogba here are the people in denial over it.

Great performance by Pogba today. Apart from his assists, he worked hard for the team. Pressing and tracking back. This is the Pogba we need, the hard-working Pogba. He won't get assists every game, but he can put in the effort.

Very good today. I also don't think he was fully match fit either, but it didn't matter.

I would still prefer him staying, but I'll just enjoy his potential last season for us. Hopefully it leads to a Prem title.

Pull some comments out that match what you said. I’m expecting there to be loads in a thread that’s 123 pages long. I suspect that by many you mean a handful
So is it a ‘myth’ or is it a ‘handful’?

Or are you going to continue to divert this by asking for comments although others have provided them already?

How you moderate this forum & can say you haven’t seen that ever astounds me.

And people rightly called it out, just as others are doing with Pogba. I don’t know why it’s controversial to defend our players. A lot of the treatment of Pogba from our own fans has been vile, from being booed in the stadium, to receiving racial abuse online. It’s all well and good saying these comments will die down if he puts in 7 good performances in a row (which is nonsense, as for a lot of fans, Pogba is always just 1 game away from being declared a useless cnut) but much of the abuse of Pogba is personal, and doesn’t relate to his performances.

Kieran Tierney got 6 key passes for Arsenal yesterday.
Probably because Arsenal had majority of possession, played a vast majority of the game in Brentford's half and were by and large the more attacking team.

Same with United today, however possession was more even.

Pogba played brilliantly today, 4 fecking assists...count them...4. Perfect runs, perfect balls. Bruno doesn't get a hat trick without Pogba today.

Tierney...0 assists...

The average for key passes last season was a shade over 3...

Stats are pointless without context.

You’re missing my point, saying Fletcher only got in the team because he was Fergies son isn’t personal? My point is Pogba isn’t the first and won’t be the last. The majority of people don’t think that he’s unprofessional, they think that he’s inconsistent and hard to find the right role for. They probably even hate his agent mouthing off. But the majority wouldn’t be saying he’s unprofessional

Read my posts. Don’t try and insult me because I disagree with you.

He was flawless today dare i say it Ace, some of the passes made were out of this world, especially the one for the Greenwood goal even my younger brother who's a bitter Chelsea fan, who never i mean never says anything good about United when it comes to

It is quite common in American sports (Baseball, NFL) for example, that when a player is in the final year of their contract, they tend to have a monster season, bc they want the best possible season they can have so they earn a bigger contract in free agency.

I would not be surprised at all if Pogba has a massive season, because his agent is all about the money, and you know he has let Pogba know-- the better your season, the more money and more options you have in the summer.

Lets hope today is the start of a massive season by Pogba and we see more consistency and performances like this throughout the season.

Sadly I believe that's his plan.

I think after today it's fair to finally say that "Pogbas fecking magic, he wears the magic hat"

Great performance and it looks like we've finally worked out how best to utilise him. I hope we never see him in a midfield 2 again because he's clearly been wasted there. Great option against low block teams whereas Rashford is a massive counter attack threat. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.

Or even just ‘good’ games. I think the eye-catching contributions made it a good game, but not Pogba at his very best for me. Nobody can get near him at his best.
Now I've come down a bit from the euphoria I actually get what you mean. I've seen games where Pogba genuinely looks like the best midfielder on the planet with a skillset almost no one can match, he wasn't at that level today but it was definitely a really good performance. But yeah even with that said, 4 assists in 1 match, only happened 7(?) other times in the history of the PL. Top player.

This isn't unique to Pogba, Giggs also did really well when it was renewal time. So did many other players. There's a gear that they're not pulling normally because their normal resting state is more relaxed and not as disciplined. I'm pretty sure there wasn't a gear Keane could pull, for example.

To think that was one of Pogba's best games for United, while also wishing he "did that on a more consistent basis" is paradoxical.
He played today like he normally plays, magical sometimes, sloppy occasionally - just this time this passes were met with good finishes or a good first touch, that's not normally the case.

On another day;
- Bruno's first goal is saved by the keeper or his first touch is sloppy.
- Mason's shot goes wide
- Bruno's second goal gets cleared off the line
- Fred's shot goes way over the bar.

You get the idea.
:nono: Mason never misses.

Agree with your overall point.

Football is too easy for him at times. Along with Shaw, easily our best player.

He had a great game, yeah not all assists are open goal tap ins, that's why attackers are paid well, to finish off those chances. You need quality players to have the vision to find players in shooting position and ability to execute those passes.

Btw, Pogba had 4 assists but only 75% pass completion (along with 6 unsuccessful touches, 3 times dispossessed). Does that mean he was productive but shit overall?

I don't believe that, just checking for consistency.

He's had better games for sure. The most impressive part of his game was that he got 4 assists, but he can definitely perform better overall.

The sitter Pogba missed early in the game was only a sitter because Pogba made it so. Pogba was one on one with the keeper, great chance thanks to Greenwood, and does a clever stepover/feint that fools the keeper into going to ground over an imaginary shot. This creates the sitter situation that Pogba then sadly missed.

Perhaps our best front 6 for this season would be:

McFred
Sancho Bruno Pogba
Greenwood

That's probably true, but you do see people on this forum calling him unprofessional, egotistical, even a virus, and those people need to stop. That's all the original post that you're responding to was saying, I think. Don't you agree?
