The next few weeks will really be a statement of what Pogba can do when against good teams and greater expectations. He has been very good since his return, but AM, City and Spurs is a far bigger challenge and one he will need to perform more than the 60 minute mark at a high level.

Very true. A lot of tough games coming up in a row.

Let’s see how the team performs as well

This./

The narrative that Pogba has been underwhelming against certain opposition is a fair one but in his time here how many other players have really stood out in the bigger games? Bar the backs to the wall performances [until they were found out dramatically] the McFred combos best performances were all about leg work not footballing skill. Set them aside, very few players have played well in the biggest games for some time.

Pogba for example has often been our best performer against City in games where the team have struggled, therefore he hasn’t been brilliant but he’s been our best player in the games. Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs he has also very often played well. Liverpool away last season also an example.

What is very difficult is to be under the cosh and produce a 9/10 performance though.

Which is exactly why people are in for a massive shock unless we start going into more big games trying to impose a style of play. As you say, there’s only so good a player will look in a team stopping the other one from playing. That’s why the overt criticism has never made much sense, the same games Pogba has played poorly in [& there’s been enough of them] the majority of the other 10 players haven’t been amazing in either, there’s a section that act as if he performs in a silo.

Does he have 90 mins in him, been super on his return but has clearly faded in second half of matches.

I think Pogba is a player better suited to a really good team. Someone like Bruno is more likely to play well in a poor team performance although there’s been quite a few games in the last 12 months where Pogba has elevated us when we were struggling. The one thing I do struggle to remember though is a really good team performance where Pogba wasn’t excellent.

Atletico Madrid 1:1 Man Utd
Good 2nd half. Taken off for no reason just as he was getting locked into the game

Jogged the whole first half. Played decent for 10 minutes in the second half and then faded again. Terrible.

Looked slow, leggy. Awful

Not sure how you go from moving like he was doing against Leeds in awful conditions to barely be able to jog

Maybe the key to understand Pogba is that he can't perform 45min high intensity football. But if he's told he'll be subbed after 20mins, he looks a different player.

Classic Pogba. Great game followed by absolute shit one.

It's a shame. This guy could have easily been the best midfielders in the world, but his bad habits on the pitch ultimately prevented him from that.

Had all the talent and potential but it's pointless when you can't even play 2 games in a row with a consistent performance.

This is why I'm not fussed if he goes. Plays well one game then can just as easily drop a stinker the next.

He was the only one playing well in the 2nd half before the subs.
The question is, why was he not playing like that in the first half? If he's worried he can't last the 90 minutes, then he shouldn't be starting, simple as that

Kondogbia bossed him... Still wouldn't have taken him off before Bruno though who was far worse IMO.

And people have been unironically suggesting we extend this disgrace.

Completely unbalances the side. A few good performances against trash in a contract year have left people blind to how common performances like tonight have been.

Different team when he went off. Gained more control against Leeds too. Another overrated ego we need to get out the door.

Looked about as bad as everyone else in the first half, did step it up a little before being subbed but it's pretty much the infuriating story of Pogba with us isn't it, terrible but also capable of absolute quality. Frustrating.

Game changed today again when he went off. Worst among the poor in the first half. I like the Jogba that someone posted, fits him well.

Maybe he smokes cigarettes or hookah ? I find his energy levels and stamina truly shocking at this level. It makes him play so lethargically and the fact that he is subbed early now in every game is an indication he isn't at his peak.
He was dreadful

The concerning thing about tonight was how basically every player's game went to pieces. However, we emphasise it in the case of someone like Pogba. Why? Because its on these nights you need your big players to step up. You need them to put their foot on the ball and guide the less experienced players through it. Isn't it why we keep trumpeting that he's a World Cup winner? Cos we expect to show it when it counts? Yet pretty much everything about his game was off. You could say that about every other player pretty much. However, its more disappointing when its your 'stars'. Shades of Gdansk. Head was gone. Game followed.

Because he was the only player Simeone bothered to man-mark.

You are totally right, we should evaluate the whole team in every player performance thread:

The team was wank

Pogba was wank.

Good enough for you?
It really astounds me how even though all the players are getting trashed in their respective performance threads, when you bring up the Pogba criticism in his own thread, the rebuttal is "Oh but the team was shite"
