So how has Pogba not been great over this season?

Well because in my opinion he hasn't been "great"

Yesterday he was great, I'd have him on the left for the remainder of the season.

But overall this season I think he's been ok, decent. Nothing more. I'm really surprised people think he's been great this year.

Yorke in '99 was great. Ronaldo in 2007 was great. Rooney 2010. Keane 2000.

I'm not somebody dead against Pogba, he seems a good guy, he's obviously really talented. But replacing him won't be that hard. You could just sign Grealish and it would be job done.

If Pogba has been great this year we should get a really good fee for him right?

What are the metrics and standard that you use in evaluating a midfielder's contributions?

Of course he's been just as consistent as Shaw. You're simply conflating his absence through injury, with inconsistency in performance. In reality, he's played consistently well since he recovered from covid.

Oh right. You will literally invent a fictional reality to support your argument. Interesting. I’ll leave you to it so.

Not having him for that couple of months after Christmas has cost us a proper crack at the title.
Absolutely.

I sort of hope we keep him for 1 more year and let him go on a free, I think it'll be too difficult adequetly replace him this summer, especially with the limited resources we'll have at our disposal. With another year we give ourselves time to try bedding in Mejbri while Pogba's still at the club, and if it doesn't work out will give us ample opportunity to scout a replacement.

I don't think he's been quite as consistent as Shaw but you can count his bad games on one hand, he's been really good this year and properly put the team on his back when Bruno was misfiring. Having him, Bruno and Shaw all fit and firing is a large part of why we've had such a promising season. These are the sort of players you need if you want to start challenging for titles.

He's had some very good disciplined performances in a midfield two this season. He's probably at his best in this free roaming left role but I like him in a midfield two when playing the lower half of the table. At least with the current personnel of this squad.

He was so good yesterday. Had Aurier looking like Bambi on ice.

It's performances like these that make me think he's worth keeping.

The only difference too me is that Shaw has played more. Not to take anything away from Shaw, who's been great. I can't see how Pogba hasn't been one of the most consistent performers this season honestly.

His top level is the highest out of any player at the club imo. When on his game he is absolutely unplayable and he was toying with Spurs towards the end.

Bloke can single-handedly take on an entire midfield and win.

No, I agree, he definitely has been.

100%. He combines unbelievable technique with an outstanding physique, on song there's few capable of going toe-to-toe with him.

The skill he showed for the 3rd goal was so good, when he's in that mood you can just smash the ball at him and he control it whatever angle.

People still complaining about Pogba just show their bias against him.

His levels since returning from injury + Covid have been good, if he can just keep the media stuff quiet i'd be very happy if he stays.

I think he is genuinely happy here, just obviously want's to be part of a winning team which is fair enough.

Pogba has been great and consistent literally all season apart from the first few games where Ole admitted he should not have played him because he had not recovered from his Covid symptoms.

There is no such thing as playing well every single game. A players performance is part of a team. Almost entire team was bad versus Granada for instance.

And dont bother to bring up one game here or there because the same can be done for both Bruno and Shaw who are our other two best players this season.

Our bad runs of form this year have been the two times Pogba has been absent from the side.

People continue to fight to diminish his contribution. It's pathetic.

There have been a large number of games this season that we do not win without Pogba if someone from our current squad was in his place.

Hence why if he leaves a top class replacement is needed.

Brilliant play against Spurs and he's been on top of his game lately, we really should pull out all the stops to make him stay at United.

Our best player in my opinion. Priority number should be keeping him. I think this is his best position too, him and Bruno floating around together will only get better.

But will he stay? Maybe a strong finish to the season with a Europa league trophy to boot will sway him. What’s the consensus on the caf? I’d hate to be being set up for heartache by his brilliant performances.

He's not been as consistent as Shaw irrelevant of injuries. Pogba had a few misses this season where he wasn't up to it at all, perhaps due to Covid effects.

As you will see from my subsequent comment, I'm only counting those games where he had recovered from Covid. Which is reasonable. And it's not as though Shaw's performances have been at the same level the whole time. He has a high bottom level but he's not been consistently productive. Can't remember him putting in a single cross yesterday for example. But I really don't want to sound like I'm bashing Shaw as I love him.

He has been generally quite good this season when he has played. Occasionally excellent.

I think it is easier to just say that than try and make comparisons with a bunch of disclaimers. Pogba has had a far better season than De Bruyne as long as we only count games games that took place after 10/04/2021.

He was outstanding yesterday. Any gif of his cushioned header - diagonal in the air, towering over a defender - for Cavani, who then set up Rashford early in the 1st half? Was a beautiful effort on his part.

Thinking more about the chance - I'm not sure he made the wrong choice. The backheel might have gone in without the block, and the volley would have to be very, very precise at that near post. The other alternative is a bicycle, but that's as much of a gamble as a backheel.

Berba's finish here (13:53) is a bit like that, a volley from behind him, very subtly done, but he had more room at the near post to aim at:

His top level has always been beyond question. Unplayable is word bandied about a lot these days but it was made for him in top form. Really feels like he can do what he wants when he's in that kind of form. Of course it's the consistency that's the key. As has been said he's been very consistent this season. Hope he stays. He can't not be enjoying life at the moment. Well, as much as any of us can.

He's very talented but injury prone and inconsistent. We don't (and won't) see yesterday's Pogba consistently over the course of the season. If he feels committed and wants to stay, I'd be happy to see that happen. If he wants to leave, I won't be shedding any tears as ultimately I think he's replaceable.

If he plays like he did yesterday against granada we win 7-0. Id prefer him to stay, but only if he signs a new contract, Id rather sell him for pretty much any price than let him go for free for a second time.

Ridiculous comment as you could say the same for the other players who played

The 442 diamond (well 4 in midfield) suits him and us in general. With it, it allows one of Fred and Scott to go forward. Its not all on Bruno and it gives Pogba so much freedom especially on the left.
It helps the attack and defence immensely and gives us control of games.

He played really well yesterday.

It really isnt, when he plays like that not only is he superb, he brings everybody else up a notch as well.

Fred is a huge factor in why Pogba played well yesterday. He always had an available pass on. On Thursday Scott was hiding behind players. I also think absolutely everything bar the goal broke down with Rashford which killed momentum

Best chance is he gets priced out of a move this summer and he stays 1 more year. Juve are a bit shit right now so might work out in our favor that their drop off might lead to him not wanting to go there. Real Madrid are still a top club, not sure how their finances are generally but I think they're prioritizing Haaland/Mbappe and would make a push to sign him on a free rather than spend big this summer.

As of now, I'd guess it's between Madrid and PSG if he is to leave. I don't know how Pogba views the French league but he is French, and they would of course spend big to get him so I could see that, along with being added to Neymar and Mbappe, especially as for Pogba it'll be a likely league title if he goes along with a guarantee to challenge for the CL given PSG last year/this year and keeping Neymar/Mbappe. I can see PSG spending now, or Madrid waiting for next summer.

He's not exactly slow though is he, and with Shaw having such a strong season up and down the left it allows Pogba to roam inside and drift. It's the same as when we used to play Mata off the right.
I'd even add pace for the sake of pace isn't what's needed, good and intelligent movement is the key. It's how Cavani has made his career with all those goals.

I agree that you don't necessarily need pace if it's more than compensated for by other aspects. But we also have to acknowledge that Rahsford is one of our best players and biggest goal contributers/threats and his best position is definitely on the left. A good problem to have anyway. I say get and DM who can sit in front of the back four and act as a brick wall there with the ability to pass of course, and unleash Pogba and Fernandes on teams.

Looks just about unplayable when he’s on form like yesterday. Would love to see him deliver for us the the Europa games and give us a trophy.

Just can’t be trusted to back it up though. Who would bet on him delivering the same level or even close in the next game?

Whatever about Granada, I would worry about him in the home match v Burnley on Sunday. Just the kind of game that he tends to go missing in.

If PSG are willing to give him Barca money he’s gone

Yet you would still sell him
Wanting to sell him this summer rather than let him go for a free next summer is a perfectly reasonable viewpoint.

Especially when @Sparky_Hughes literally said he’d prefer Pogba to stay and sign a new contract.
Thank you @AgentSmith exactly. Id prefer him to sign on and stay, but would rather sell him than let him run down his contract and leave for free for a second time, we would look like fecking mugs.

Think they'd need to stump up 50m this summer for us to agree but yeah I think he'd go, regardless of our finish to the season. Pogba is 28 so it's his last chance of a big move, this summer if someone pays up or next on a free. He won't stay to push our project on as he can't do projects anymore. Can't blame him tbh, unfortunate timing for us but it is what it is.

The keeper was not ready for the shot and probably had his vision blocked.

Lloris had the near post covered. I don't think a flick volley like that would have beaten him. Camera replays from the another angle showed that the backheel was on target.

We'll look like mugs either way cause no way we replace him properly. Glazers simply don't bother.

Personally I'd add to the squad make him stay one more season and hopefully if we keep improving and our fans stop treating him like shit he'd stay.

Basically I'd bank on him changing his mind than risk the club having to replace him.

My MotM yesterday. Unplayable in the second. Not many have that combination of raw strength, skill and vision when he's on song. Sometimes I find myself not caring if he goes or not then he suddenly reminds me why he has the highest ceiling of all of our players.
