Even when he has his best games he still makes brainless decisions which is the most frustrating thing about him.

Top class today though.

It looked to me that after the final whistle Ole could have been telling him off for that flick though, in a light hearted way at least, did anyone else see this?

We need to find a way to get him and Bruno in the same team high up the pitch but without having to move Rashford to the right. Pogba as a number 6 is just a colossal waste in my opinion.
the only way is a 433 with bruno going more to the right CM, surprised we haven’t tried it more but ole loves the mcfred base

Good performance overall, and my MOTM. But if a couple of small margins had gone against him, he could have easily been getting panned.

The duck under the corner that led to Cavani hitting his own post and the overcomplicated backheel miss could have cost us. He needs to cut that shit out. He's still a player that can single-handedly win you games and single-handedly lose you games. Delighted for him that it was the former today. But worried that the latter could come back and bite us like in previous seasons.

I think this performance shows that United need a second playmaker in the final third against low block teams. For that, he's perfect.

Can’t see it happening. Despite the much discussed statistical contribution, I still maintain, as I have done from the beginning - that we shouldn’t have signed Bruno Fernandes if Ole still planned on Pogba being a central part of his team. A top class central midfielder who could have replaced Herrera would have been more beneficial.

Ole has worked himself into an awkward position now with his midfield options, and is getting away with it now because the 3 forwards have all typically been unimpressive enough that one of them can easily be left out. If that were not the case, he COULD just play both Bruno and Pogba as part of a midfield 3, but as a team we would be best suited to just the one. At the time, my thinking was Bruno was being brought to be like VDB - a back up creative midfielder. Pogba was our most creative at the time, and he had been injured for months and the stand ins were Lingard and Pereira. We played two of McTominay, Fred and Matic behind Lingard and Pereira - and logically, if we signed nobody last Jan, it would have been Jesse or AP that Pogba would have replaced in the team when he regained fitness, given they were both terrible. Both needed to go and another creator needed to come in, but I didn’t know that we were looking for one to come in for the first XI. As Bruno didn’t cost an obscene amount and was already 25 and playing at Sporting, I didn’t think his profile would have been what it is at the time. Of course, if his plan last Jan was to sell PP, then we still needed an improved starting midfielder I felt to play with Bruno.

Ole has to find the right balance now, but he’d do very well to find it with both PP and Bruno in the same settled XI.

Desailly made a great point about Pogba today. He said Pogba needs to be part of a well-run team. He's not the player you can build the team around.

Inconsistent and infuriating at times, but he is a world class player and at times looked like that today.

Hope he stays

Pretty much every player needs that nowadays, even the Madrid team that won 3 CLs in a row wasn't really built around Ronaldo.

Tbf Lloris was covering the near post and it would probably require a ridiculous top bins volleyed finish to beat him. He had the right execution and it was actually going to beat Lloris had Dier not read it perfectly.

Harsh to label him as someone who can single-handedly lose us game over a defensive error in a corner. You can pretty much apply that to every player on the pitch.

When he is in this form, he is a beast. Just sign that contract please. We are nearing our rebuild and we just cannot afford to miss our best player. Bruno will get the numbers but Pogba will give you something else. It's an unique skill set which this guy only offers.

It's going to be bitterly disappointing to lose him, he's very good.

If Ole persists with his rigid 4-2-3-1 (which looks likely), we look resigned to not seeing Pogba in his best position which for me, is left of a triangular 3 in midfield. If you could play a sort of 4-1-2-3 and your ‘1’ was a world class DM (like City have had with Fernandinho for years), we could play Bruno and Pogba as the 2. That would be absolutely devastating with a firing forward 3 spearheaded by a Kane, for example. Signing a world class DM and CF AND keeping Pogba would make us genuine title challengers next season IMO.

I’ve been banging on about letting him go but I would definitely rather we gave him a fat new deal than we sold and the glazers pocket the money and don’t reinforce. He’s a major asset and he’s unplayable on his day. It’s up to the manager to get the best out of him and today was just that. I’ve always said the major fly in the ointment for me is that he and Bruno both thrive in the same position but Pogba was great today in that role and Bruno was very important too. Pretty encouraging stuff I have to say

You know we've done that routine before with Rooney, Sanchez, DDG (I could frankly add Jones, Lingard to this list too) .... right? How many times we repeat the same mistake before we learn our lesson?

I would be open to giving him a contract but not an improved one. Plus he needs to muzzle his dog.

He's an outrageously gifted, talented footballer that can't quite work out how to put it all together.

Sadly for us - and somewhat typical of the Glazers' squad planning - his best position is almost undoubtedly the same one Fernandes occupies.

I can't fathom a system that brings out the best in both of them. And despite having weaker overall attributes, Fernandes just produces more.

Sad, but if we can get big money, we'd be so much better with a proper RWF and DMF than with Pogba.

I hear you but Haaland is going around looking for a million bucks a week. It’s gone crazy. You have to gamble that Pogba will mature and find consistency and drive here. If not it’s not our money and we are down a pretty unique player who cost us a bloody fortune

4-3-3 with a real DM. I really do believe it can be done. We have better defensive full-backs than we ever had in the past, and Bruno works his socks off. I also think Paul has matured over the past year and has better positioning than he has ever had previously.

Very much agreed

thats what my head says but my heart says he could still be part of fecking deadly team here. However Ole lined them up in the second half, just keep doing whatever that was.

Both he and Bruno were creative and searching and grafting. It was nice to see

If he hasn't matured at 28 I think its time to move on. He will basically sign a fat contract and a year from now everyone will blame Woodward for giving him one.

I’m fairly sure he’s going to tell the club he’s going to run his deal down if we don’t sell. 1 sticky season with the fans here and he can earn major major money and his dream move if he walks on a free.

Well we should tell the fat prick to find him a new club this summer. He will be 29 going on 30 this time next year and COVID situation is still alive. I am not sure anyone is throwing silly money just yet.

Getting him to stay would be massive. This club couldn't replace Lukaku. In fact historically under the Glazers we literally always replace good players who leave with downgrades.

Imagine trying to replace Pogba. The regression would be massive.

Absolutely unreal today. If he hadn’t got that injury we would be right in the title mix, although our rivals have had their share of injuries too of course

The second half he had a bit of a free role , coming into the middle a lot more and making those runs with the ball that no one can stop. He’s a lot more effective in the middle but not in a double pivot

Literally all our bad patches this season have been with Pogba injured.

Put respect on his name. If he goes we will need probably two very good player to replace him if we want to improve. If not we will get worse

building team around players is a dumb thing anyway. It’s a dinosaur type belief
