Him and De Gea are on another level to any other player in our squad imo. Forget potential, he's already world class and only going to get better imo.
IMO he is yet to put together WC performances on the world stage. It's all well and good calling him WC because he performed in a friendly match but less we forget he flattered to deceive on most occasions we played against tough opposition. Being world class is not doing it in friendlies. There are midfielders out there who are so consistent and excellent that they are often one of the best players in Champions Leagues and World Cup campaigns (e.g. team of the tournament etc) which is a far higher measurement of your quality than playing outstanding in a meaningless friendly. That said he bossed the game which was nice. I truly hope he can kick on next season and in many ways he will. That said, he may need another CM to free him up more so we will see.

Yep. And the only thing that prevented us winning either of those last two CL finals was running into a team with far better players than us.

The league is different because Real and Barca don't play in England of course.
True. When Spurs or thei like, reach and win Champions League's or even get far, then we can talk about how unimportant World Class players are

I like what I've seen of him so far. He's going to be massive for us.

When he signed it was entirely predictable that his first season was going to be a chore, before the focus turns away from his price tag and towards his performances.

My fear is that we won't have enough around him. He's such a talent, but you want him having the platform to maximise and showcase regularly.

Forget whether he is world class or not. Question is will we be able to keep him long term if we are no closer to winning an EPL in next two years.

He and De Gea are too good for us at this moment in time. Both would walk into Barca's first XI.

That's a fair point, I agree he needs to do it on a more consistent basis, but at times last season he was nothing short of phenomenal. When he is switched on and does have those performances, everything just looks too easy for him.

I am confident we will get in somebody, I see that midfield position more important than the wing.

No closer than Mikhi, Mata, Martial and Rashford are now.
Berbatov - yes, but Nani was on another level to those mentioned (on their United form so far, Mata and Mikhi showed the same level at Chelsea/Dotrmund)

It's not just about bodies, I mean some comparable level of quality to him. It's hard, but that's the requirement I think to raise the overall level of the team to something closer to what he can do.

Hopefully Andreas can become a special midfielder. Having two of them working together would make a huge difference.

I didn't see the match so just saw the highlights but why are there only fifty posts about his performance, absolutely ridiculous performance. Seeing him perform like that in pre-season, I'm leaning more and more towards Matic as it'll remove the shackles on Pogba.

Awesome performance. I am glad we have a world-class CM at the peak of his powers finally (after Scholes). Interesting that he made so many runs at the right wing. Haven't seen something like that from him before in atleast United shirt...

What's really mind blowing is that the first post on his performance in that game came almost 7 hours later!

Obviously, ripping into Lindelof and Fellaini as well as general belly-aching about the game and our record in this transfer window was a much higher priority.

Apologies for going OT, & I'm probably looking too much into it, but that quote about the defenders was weird.

"In a couple of days you will have an understanding of why I have been playing Lindelof and Smalling"

Maybe Smalling is off?

I have a feeling that Spurs might have demanded Jones as part of a Dier transfer; he'd provide them with a replacement and actual upgrade defender. Jones was class against France on the right of a back 3, something Spurs might have noted.

You have said this twice, but I only saw one new comment in the Fellaini thread when I checked about 9:30am. Second was mine, praising him.

Miracles will never cease. Assume he was getting slaughtered without checking. He did actually play reasonably well (elbow on Pique aside) but that doesn't usually stop him getting pelters.

Who was in the firing line today, then? Lindelof, Lingard and Blind?

If we replace Carrick with a solid defensive midfielder, we will own the league. Pogba was absurdly good last night.

That Southampton game, he was unplayable! I fully do not expect any player to be like that all the time but I want to see more of that stuff. I am so curious as to what role/position he will play in. Will it be in a 2, with an AM ahead? will it be in a 3, with a BW/DLP next to him and Herrera? I am just desperate for a top, top player to slot in next to them

From my morning search, mainly Lingard I think. To be fair, the names you offered up are the ones who played poorly, particularly Blind anyway, who was also slaughtered in his thread.

I think all three of them played poorly and I would be critical of them too. I just find it weird that people prefer to discuss depressing crap like a poor performance from a player on the team they support when they could be hailing a really exceptional display from our best player. Against one of the best teams around. Especially with all the doubts expressed about him last season.

That's valid.

He's an incredible player. His entertainment value is immense, he almost always does something extremely impressive when he's on the ball. So excited about what he can do next season and beyond.

£89m will be a snip by the time he's finished here.

We need to build around these players, cant sign a team of XI world beaters in one/two windows

Remember the good old days of "I'd rather pay 30 mil for 3 players than pay that for him" last Summer.

If we are going to spend heavily, do it on top top quality players like him.

After this window and the obscene prices for average players, nobody can even say that!

Gave the ball away far too much, trying Hollywood passes. Some decent flashes, but ultimately needs to keep the ball ticking over more without his default pass being a Pirlo.

Wow.

We have other players that can tick the ball over. We want him to express himself and try things others can't.

Yeah I thought that was a bit too cryptic. Surprised no one else latched onto it from the press. Either a defender is off or baily/Lindelof has a bad injury.

Maybe shaw is off and he's looking to try someone st left back :/

Hi Loui x

I am satisfied with his progress. Now looks like the player he is supposed to be and become.

Hopefully, the others follow suit.

People forget, Madrid who are currently an unbelievable team spent nearly a decade building their core, it'll take time to make us challengers.
