Paul Merson Pundit Thread

Yeah they embarass themselves when they come out with something which every fan watching already knows. Chelsea and Utd fans have been arguing on Twitter for months about who started that penalty technique!

I’m not sure what’s more embarrassing, the pundit’s opinion, or fans arguing about who started it

Merson's analogy on Liverpool being at the top and not spending was almost poetic:
" There's a famous fast food chain that used to sell more chips and burgers than anyone; they still did adverts. You spend to stay at the top."

Kind of Sid Waddell.

Always thought Merson was an absolute bellend, but watching him just now on Harrys Heroes/ITV opening up about his alcoholism and gambling issues.. kind of warmed to him just a bit.

Unbelievable he still gets paid to talk so much rubbish, course he’s not the same player, we haven’t bought him to tear it up o the wing!

I liked him in Harry’s Heroes but on Soccer Saturday he’s more embarrassing than not.

Absolutely an idiot, I mean is there a team in England that can claim to have a better striker than Ronaldo, maybe Spurs. He cost £15m or so and you'll get two years out of him. Its a fantastic deal and a person would have to be an idiot to write him off based on his age at that price. Now if you shelled out £100m he'd have a point but a free Ronaldo regardless of wages is always a good deal.

Why does Paul Merson look more and more like Ronnie Kray

Same behavioural traits too. Me and my mate used to do mersons predictions years ago for the weekend, and placed our predictions through how we thought he would guess the results.

As whacky as we went we never got it right, bar the spurs results as he always said they would lose

Someone needs to tell him how much we paid for Sancho and Ronaldo. He seems to think it’s the same price that we would pay for Kane.

We got Sancho, Varane and Ronaldo for less than what Kane would cost.

Levy won’t even accept a bid for the combined sum we paid for Ronaldo, Varane and Sancho, so feck that.

5 minutes into Soccer Saturday and he's at it again:

- "Ronaldo not the same player"
- Called Sancho 'Sanchez' twice
- "If Ronaldo doesn't score today I'd be worried as a Man Utd fan"

He’s an absolute clown.

Called Saint-Maximin, Maximus as well

He needs to be removed from TV

They were all having a dig at our move for Ronaldo.

Saying it blocks the route for Sancho, Greenwood and Rashford.

2 of them will start most games and it’s good to have depth but not at United apparently.

We are all aware the narrative would be completely different had he joined City. Its embarrassing.

Both City and United have 7 senior players for the front 3 positions. City have Silva, Torres, Mahrez, Sterling, Foden, Grealish and Jesus whereas we have Greenwood, Rashford, Amad, Sancho, Martial, Ronaldo and Cavani.

Was there a single article written after the Grealish signing, about what it would mean for Foden's development? Or Torres? I don't remember any when they were about to sign an 8th in Kane or Ronaldo either.

You say it’s outdated, but watch alongs seem to be all the rage these days. It seems everyone’s doing one.
Not quite the same, moreover I think few people watch the watchalong and not the match at the same time. In fact, most people probably tune in when there's a goal to see the reactions or just tune in for a few minutes.

Perhaps. But till the 3 pm blackout remains I think that show format stays relevant. Their problem is the lineup. It’s full of old cooks who have a painfully simplistic view of football. Le Tissier is ok at times but that’s about it.

Didn't know Marco Pierre White was on there
