Not true, I think most of the prices we paid this summer were fairly sensible bar Yoro but the club felt they had to go that high to turn his head from Real Madrid so probably did overpay and we just have to hope it's worth it, the rest are sensible prices. €40m for a wingback that is in only his second season in a top league and hasn't proven it yet

I agree with his valuation.
It’s worth remembering that the club would be in a far better position had we not signed 90% of the players we did in the last decade.

Yeah, all logic and reason seem to go out the door whenever we get embroiled in a transfer saga.
Absolutely. We literally would have been better off buying nobody than some of the guys we brought in. I love a random punt of a signing but we pay fees like they are established players. It all adds up and it’s why we are now so skint.
Yoro wasn't expensive or over the odds. Time will show that.

They've signed two defenders in the past 24 hours including a fullback. They're already spending the money we're about to give them. We just need to get the ball rolling. Doesn't currently look like we're about to sign anyone else in January, unless we sell Garnacho/loan Rashford.

I'd rather we did do that than go after the established mercenaries. We just need to do our homework (scouting) better.
Signing Zirkzee who has the top speed of a tortoise reeks of ineffective scouting. It's no point signing a young player who doesn't have a high ceiling.
Yoro does, and Dorgu does from what I've seen.
Hojlund was never the finisher or chance creator we needed. Zirkzee was clearly not going to be a big hit either. Malacia from highlights you could see was nothing more than a squad player before he signed.
The ones that are really exciting or have huge potential are the ones I don't mind us paying for. Like Yoro or Dorgu. We have to shift from buying squad players for good money, to players who are likely to be in the first team very quickly and improve us, even if it means spending more atleast were still likely to want them after a season and not add to the deadwood.

The scouting and recruitment has got to be better under INEOS. It has been somewhat better, but judging on Hojlund and Zirkzee signings, it's not proven good enough yet.

You should come up with a stronger argument for why you believe Dorgu was worth only £15–20m in 2015. Have you actually watched him play

How about Dalot, he was 21 for €10m and had almost identical numbers to Dorgu from the same league - Probably the most accurate comparison we can draw but I've doubled that and said €20m as things have increased in the last 4 years, more than fair in my head.

January is a sellers market. Fees are skewed and the time for negotiations is short.

I hope there's more to this than us signing him just because the manager wants us to sign him. That's worked so well for us in the past.
Seems to fit in with INEOS signings so far. Young player with potential, rather than your old player who ain’t got no value in a couple of years.
I think considering how few LWBs there are that satisfy the criteria Amorim needs, the fact it is mid season, getting him for a max of €40m if he meets certain clauses is fine. If he pans out really the only glaring weakness we have is a striker.
Where are you getting €10m from? Was that what Milan valued him at when he was on loan? Because we signed Dalot when he was 19 and paid about €22m for him.

Ok so €22m (I thought it was €10 and rest was made up of possible levers that can activate the rest such as appearances etc), to come back to the original point - Would you be happy paying a guaranteed €40m for Dorgu? A very unheard of wingback who while only 20 has 1 assist to his name in Serie A in 53 games (To be fair he does have 5 goals but this system seems to want WBs to provide assists).
Alvaro Fernandez has very similar numbers in a similar level league and we should at least be familiar with his character (Less chance of signing an unmotivated player). I just don
think €40m for Dorgu while Fernandez has a release clause of less than €20m is smart business.
Probably the fact that he’s a left back and we don’t have one, for a start. Understand the concern but not for this one.
He's barely played a year and a bulk of these are on the right wing too.
Add to that he's never been managed by Amorim personally, nor played in a league Amorim's familiar with. So its not exactly a Ten Hag-esque signing. If he fits the profile for the type of signings we want to make going forward, being desired by our current manager then it isn't something to dismiss with suspicion. If we were linked with half of Sporting's players then I'd start to raise eyebrows.
Will take your word for it and certainly hope we don’t overpay, but we desperately need someone who can play there so it’s a low risk in my eyes signing someone, anyone, who can.
I just want to know why we havent really given Malacia more game time there, I dont think he's been that bad.
Alvaro is also literally not suited to Amorim’s style of play, he’s slow, he’s lazy and will not have the pace to get up and down the pitch like Dorgu.
If we signed Alvarez, there would be a lot of posters moaning why we signed him, just because he’s a cheaper option, doesn’t mean he’s the better option.
I mean, he’s been awful since he returned from injury, which is partly understandable, his first season pre injury he was fine.
It’s a good question. It’s not like the manager has frozen him out either so maybe medical staff recommendations?
