SAF said it was a big blow for the lad, I think he meant psychologically. Jamie Redknapp in his preview said that Hargo's injury isn't as bad as it was thought to be when talking about our options.

I still wonder what might have been if he didnt start that one game and come on with only 15 minutes to go, in the middle of the park that didnt require him at top speed. The cynic will say the same thing however I tend to think he might have done ok.

If he can't prove any sort of fitness before the end of the season, I can't see how we could justify giving him a new contract and a squad place for next season. Maybe we could give him a new contract (1 year) and look to loan him out for the first half of next season. If he proves his fitness we can then look at squad numbers and bringing him back in January.
If, as have been the rumours, his knee issues are over and it is just stupid injuries holding him back now, may (just maybe) we could also look at keeping him on for next season, and using him as a backup, with Ryan Tunnicliffe also being used in the same role. Obvioulsy it depends on what the club see in Ryan, but he is a tough tackling, driving central midfielder, and anyone we replace Hargreaves with will impact the future of Ryan (and possibly Pogba too)

Well it would have to be pay as you play, that much is certain. The squad place will be something SAF has to decide whether he needs it or not.
Only chance he could stay is on some sort of pay-per-play deal. I think hes probably played his last game for us, hope not though.

Well, right now - with loan recalls and no further sales (Just VDS retiring) the squad is at 27 players. So at least two players need to be moved on just to get it down to size, then we are at player out for player in teritory.

De Laet, Gibson, Hargreaves, Diouf, Kuszczak and Obertan are all players I could see being moved on.
Michael Owen too I guess. I'm an Owen fan but he must also be on dodgy ground. Wes Brown too, Paul Scholes.

To be fair, we are challenging on three fronts. Even if he is fully fit, I doubt he would play as he will probably be too rusty to risk in high pressure games.

The problem with the pay as you play contract is that he would still demand a place in the 25 player's squad. Can we afford that on a player who's been out for injury for years? I really don't know.
No-one knows, just SAF. I'll trust him with this decision.
