Ousmane Dembele

I'd want a loan because it leaves the door open for Sancho next summer. You can argue about whether we'd be able to get Sancho next summer or not, but I think it shows that is still the club's intention.

Basically we can't get Sancho, so we settle for another player on a year long loan instead of a purchase. Sancho is still the endgame.

A royal feck up regardless.

I want this deal but now that we got Traore I dont see this one going through.
We arent getting two right wingers in one transfer window, makes no sense.
Traore should appease the base and thats that.

The biggest fecking red flag is that Barca want a permanent deal.
Exactly this. If they genuinely believed he had potential, they would happily let him go on loan, take a loan fee for him and take his wages off the books for a year.

If Dembele did well for us this year, then Barca would be delighted because they could choose to bring him back or choose to sell him as there would be a number of suitors considering he would have had a good season.

However, the fact Barca want a permanent deal shows they have written him off completely despite him only being 23. They have probably seen enough from his injury record or his attitude to know they don't want him. They probably aren't even interested in a buy-back clause of any kind.

I'm all for giving players a chance, but Dembele was great about 3 years ago. It's a huge ask to expect to see the same player this season with the amount of leg muscle injuries he's had. A huge part of his game was his explosiveness which will no doubt be affected based on his injuries.

Glad you're not in charge of doing deals. For a simple one year loan with no obligation at the end, it will cost the small price of €26m loan fee + his wages.

You would take that in a heartbeat?
Out of the all our options in the final hours of the window? feck yes

Beats the alternative of overpaying for lesser players or ending up without anyone else besides the prospects we're linked to

any amount below 26m per season will mean a loss in barcelona's books
and they need the money to get depay and a cb
getting rid of dembele to lose money and not being able to bring in other players makes no sense to them
Yeah it makes total sense from Barca's side. Crazy by us if we agree to it though. It makes more sense to pay the ~€60m to buy him outright.

He has been playing first team football for 5 seasons and has played the equivalent of 76 full matches..

Massive crock numbers

Not appeasing many of them I don't think

Traore won't come before January and he s a raw talent at the moment

All the people saying "feck sake" will be saying "omg he's so good" in a few months.

Reckon Barca would take less than 26m. That might be their ideal but less than that would still considerably minimise their losses, as well as getting him off the payroll for a season, at least. I presume the loan amount would come off any eventual transfer fee.

Where did you get that fee from
Here:
barcelona paid 105m + 25m bonus = 130m total for a 5 season contract
so dembele costs them 130m/5 seasons = 26m per season (+ wages)
any amount below 26m per season will mean a loss in barcelona's books
and they need the money to get depay and a cb

What is the source for 26m loan fee?

Redcafe speculation is not a source.

to be fair that might not be the worst. Even if he totally bombs we should still be able to make 20 million on him from somewhere. 30 million is worth a risk If we were willing to risk 80 on maguire
Depends...if he s injured all the time and we have a long term contract with him..it won't be easy selling him.
We might end up with another Sanchez

If we signed Messi today, the caf would ask why Neymar's deal isn't done yet.

Barca want rid of Dembele to sign Depay.

Imagine somebody told you that 3 years ago.

Who says 26 Million fee?

It doesn't answer my non rhetorical question but when the loan happened Tevez had won us nothing. I asked the question because the figure made up by the other poster reminded me Tevez's loan.
Right. The high loan fee may remind you of Tevez but the circumstance is much different. When we brought Tevez in we were in a very strong position. He gave us that bit of extra to keep us ahead of the other teams. Similar to when we bought RVP. We're not in a good position to be spending that much on Dembele, especially with such a high risk of injury when we need a hell of a lot more than giving us that bit of extra. We need a miracle player that can carry a team and inspire great performances from the rest of the players around him. My point is 15m per season for Tevez, even in 2007 was a great loan move. 25m for a one season loan for Dembele is stupid.

Oh you're counting wages. That's silly.
No wages counted. They need €25m for Depay (can only be done with Dembele's departure) and it will also cost €26m for Dembele for Barca per year, so letting him go for less would make no sense to them.

You know it's not Adama Traore right? This is some kid in France who won't even play for our first team until 2021.

a young and injury prone Sanchez. I guess that’s the risk. Thing with Dembele is he’ll fit straight in with the Pogba/martial clique. The only thing is Do we want to be giving Pogba that much power. He’s been absolutely half arsing it for ages now. He’s going to be getting a huge deal to stay if he stays. I’m really conflicted. We need more graft and balls. I know we need match winners too but what’s the point when it looks like you’re going ship at least 3 goals in each match and players are walking around the pitch laughing and trying shit tricks

not sure the point of a loan deal with no option to buy. so what if he comes here and does really well? barca just takes him back or sells him for more than what they're offering him out at now.

A loan would be fantastic for us, shows we still believe Sancho wants us and we still get a potential world class player in for a season.

He has 2 years on his contract, 1 year next season. They won't be getting more than 40/50M
