Oscar De La Hoya v Manny Pacquiao

I just watched the Robin Reid/Ottke fight for the first time, I cannot believe how protected he was, I mean I am no fan of Reid but Ottke was knocked down in the 6th and the ref did not even count him FFS.

Bit off topic but meh.

He's a cock. I've seen him in town a few times.

No doubt about it. I loved watching Froch put him down. But watch this and tell me he did not get fecked over in this fight, unbelievable that the Germans get away with it in world boxing

When I left Mancheter for here a decade ago, Reid was a big deal. I used to see him drive about round our way with local slags in a snide white convertible something like he was a pimp. My mate from Leeds who lives here reckons he became a porn star, is that true?

Not sure about that, but he used to drive around in the tragic looking BMW 3 series. Was a wide thing, with narrow tires. The man has no taste. He thought he was a proper bad boy.

His. Face. Punch. I would love to.

Was ref German??

Yep, Roger Tillerman. Judges scored it; Franz Marti 112-117 | judge: Giulio Mancini 113-115 | judge: Levi Martinez 113-115. Most people on boxing other than the ones that judged it had it 115 - 113 win for Reid at a stretch, I would have scored it 116-112 myself. I mean 112-117 for Ottke FFS!

The sport is filthy, to be honest.

i believe your prediction was a guess as good of a guess as it was

it was a prediction, an estimate given my knowledge on both fighters.

it's great to see youngsters keen on the sport, and i hope your passion for boxing carries on strong.

but you're only 20, and as you grow older and spend more years following the game, you start to see things that aren't perhaps as blatantly obvious as bookie's stats and weigh in figures. you also learn to never get sucked in by the hype ;)

out of interest, you reacted to my earlier post by reeling off the career highlights of Oscar, and now, post fight it seems that you hate him...

what was all that about!?!

?!

As much as I dislike him, I do respect him. Because i picked him to win doesnt mean i like him
It wasnt bookies stats and weigh in figures, off their last performances it could have been known that this would happen to Oscar as Steve Forbes fractured his orbit and he has NO punching power at all but I as well as everyone else seemed to go with logic that on their boxing pedigree and the size difference, like i said if Oscar was anywhere near his prime and worked with the left hook and jab it would have been a different fight.

rather than criticise your choices would you care to explain why you came to this choice

sure, Hatton beaten by Mayweather, De La Hoya beaten by Mayweather.

De La Hoya beaten by Manny, Barrera and Morales beaten by Manny.

i think Floyd and Manny is the fight that's got to happen. i think it's the fight that should happen.

i don't think De La Hoya will retire on last week's loss. i think he'll still want the Hatton fight. and i think he'll actually want it in England, for the sake of spreading Golden Boy's name over here.

Hatton, at this point, in my opinion, doesn't deserve a shot at Manny.

If Mayweather stays retired then Hatton becomes the most obvious choice for Manny's next fight. However undeserving of that fight you think Hatton is, he's still the man at 140 and his style would surely make for a good fight.

After De La Hoya's performance against Manny I can't comprehend why any boxing fan would want to see him fight Hatton. The fight could very well still be made due to financial reasons but it would be another nail in the coffin for boxing.

Manny vs Hatton at 140, yes please. De La Hoya vs Hatton at 147, no thanks. Hatton could face DLH I suppose as a build up to facing Manny but it wouldn't be great viewing, be good for Hatton though getting 1 last big payday before taking on Manny in late 09.

yeah, i think if Ricky is gonna face Pac, there should be a build up fight (for Ricky). i think De La Hoya would surprise people against Hatton. he'd be utterly determined to give a decent representation of himself after what Manny did to him.

i actually think it would be a better fight than people might think. lets not forget Oscar's performance against FMJR just over a year ago.

and Manny - Floyd would be an EPIC prospect. i firmly believe that fight will happen, maybe not immediately, but it has to happen.

I reckon Mayweather will fancy taking on Manny as well, least I hope. What a fight that'd be

Doesn't matter who Pacquiao fights though it'd be entertaining. A match vs Hatton would be fantastic too

I meant the froch Taylor
De La Hoya has been getting it from all sides about doing his own 'No Mas', James Toney one of boxing's funniest men turned around and decided to bust his balls by calling him a sissy and a quitter.

Like I said before Manny needs and probably will fight JMM again seeing as the first fight was a draw despite knocking JMM down twice in the first round and their second fight was a close SD that has divided boxing as to who actually won

 you said that like De La Hoya would be the under dog

you missed my point, what i was saying was Oscar despite his recent showing won't be the under dog in the fight, people know what he can do so he won't be/need to surprising people If you need things to be explained just ask :)

Lots of talk about Pacpuiao v Hatton or even Pacquiao v Mayweather. We could have a Mayweather v Hatton rematch

Mayweather targets Hatton rematch

Floyd Mayweather Jr wants to come out of retirement for a possible rematch with Ricky Hatton next year.

Hatton's lawyer Gareth Williams said Mayweather Jr, who retired after he dismantled Hatton inside 10 rounds last year, has approached the Briton's camp.

However, Hatton wants to negotiate a lucrative bout with Filipino Manny Pacquiao in the summer.

"The fight we want to make, our preference, is Manny Pacquiao because that is a great fight," Williams said.

"Ricky has made no secret of the fact he wants to take on the best and Pacquiao is regarded as the best.
"We're more than happy to make that fight but it has got to be on acceptable terms."

Pacquiao inherited Mayweather's status as the world's leading fighter following the 29-year-old's eight round victory over Oscar de la Hoya in Las Vegas earlier this month.

The Filipino's comprehensive victory seemed to have paved the way for a bout with Hatton, with Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, stating negotiations were underway - a claim Williams has denied.

"He's not talked to us at all. We're happy to fight Pacquiao but it has to be on our terms," said Williams.

"We won't be bullied or forced into any decision that is not on our terms.

"We've had no contact whatsoever with him. That is the fight we want to make but we've got other options, we will do what is best for us."

Manchester's Hatton, who is being trained by Mayweather's father, Floyd, suffered his only professional defeat at the hands of the American in Las Vegas.

The 30-year-old two-weight world champion had earlier this year spoken of his desire for a rematch with Mayweather.

Williams added: "Every light-welterweight in the world wants to fight Hatton.

"We've had approaches from everybody. We've also had approaches from people at 130lbs, Juan (Manuel) Marquez and Juan Diaz both want to fight him.

"He is a massive draw and can fight where he wants."

Hatton's father Ray confirmed they had been "sounded out" by a third party on behalf of Mayweather.

"It hasn't come from us because we just took it as what it was, a third party sounding us out," he told Sky Sports News.

"Really at the moment we're looking at Manny Pacquiao. It's very nice for Ricky to still be in such a big league."

He added: "Manny Pacquiao is now regarded as pound-for-pound the best fighter in the world and that's a fight Ricky would like. I know fans would like to see it."

Hatton's preference to meet Pacquiao is likely to be due, in part, to his reluctance to fight again at the 147lb welterweight limit where he has struggled, rather than his natural light-welterweight limit of 140lb.

Williams said: "We've not talked about weight. Ricky gave away all the advantages last time to challenge Mayweather. He makes no secret of the fact he is a 140lbs fighter so for any future negotiations...I think we're in a position now where we don't have to give away all the bargaining positions."
