The fact he’s pretty much discarded Sancho so early is probably more alarming to the board than the results. Because he wasn’t able to thrive playing in a system where it looks as if the manager hands the team sheet to the ref then hides in the toilet for an hour he’s cast aside.

People speculate he didn’t want VDB but I think he probably has no idea what to do with him and Sancho is going/gone the same way

Even if you want to plough on with him and back him gore can you trust him with £70m for a new star signing when he’ll decide three games in he doesn’t like that one anymore

The irony that is the “United way” to persevere with a manager who gives players five minutes before deciding he doesn’t want them any more

Constantly. It’s sensible. Moronic to only start planning for something after it has already happened. Manager’s are the same. Do you think Ferguson ever stopped searching for the next star forward or would it have been a sad state of affairs if he didn’t recall all the scouts once we signed RvN?

Like it or not it’s necessary long-term thinking. There won’t be a top club in Europe who don’t have some idea who’d be interested in taking over should their current manager retire, leave, get fired or spontaneously combust

Which brings me back to my point, if we’re leaking we’re not doing that there must be a reason

To be fair it is different with a player than it is with a manager

Even if we lose tomorrow he's not being sacked. I think it would have to be an absolute walloping or say 4 or 5 for that to even be a possibility and I still don't think they would do it.

Ole will probably get the season now and see how we do. If we don't finish top 4 he's definitely gone. If we finish 4th but are miles behind the winners he will probably go.

Ole outers need to park it now. He's going nowhere for now. Just get behind the club for a bit and revisit the manager situation again.
Close the forum mods. Let the Ole inners have it for themselves.

Agree. Havent been happy to hear both Ole and McTom come out this weekend saying we are the underdogs in the match today. It's this whole lowering expectations and accepting nothing but challenging. This excuse and approach has to stop. Neville also tried doing it last weekend saying if Ole gets top 4 and wins the FA Cup and Europa cup then it's a good season. Nonsense, with this squad and the money he has now spent he has to challenge this season for the title.
All this after spending last season saying only judge him this year, he couldn't have been expected to challenge last year. Now unsurprisingly the goalposts get moved.

Heavy heart but it's time for him to go. It's been 3 years and it's just not good enough. We consistently rely on individual brilliance to get our of shitty situations.

My 1,000th post, it's taken 13 years to get there, sad to use to to say Ole must go but it is what it is.

It’s a make or break game for Ole and our season as a whole today, but he won’t be sacked before the end of the season no matter what happens. I don’t think our team matches up particularly well against Liverpool so I can’t see this being a good day.

The only reason I'm not in Ole Out camp is because I want Ten Hag to replace him and he won't come mid season.
Btw this doesn't mean I'm Ole in either.
We can hire a caretaker manager, and might at least have a chance to win a cup competition. Waiting till the end of the season, not knowing what will happen with other clubs (they could be in for our targeted manager too) is a risk.

We are already out of the title race as far as I'm concerned. And Oles record in the cup competitions is bad.

It’s a perfectly sound argument that a better CV does not necessarily mean better performance in a job which is equally applicable to many roles at organisations.

Not true at all and here’s a good example for you.

Take Apple, they hired an experienced CEO, John Scully, in the 80s and it didn’t work out so they replaced him with the original founder of the company, Steve Jobs, to restore the company to its original values. After Jobs passed away in 2011, the CEO was appointed internally - Tim Cook who had no previous CEO experience but understood what the company was about. Just so happens they are the most valuable company in the world.

Weird analogy given Ole had 10 years managerial experience before he became our manager. No offence but your tagline makes sense.
Do you have any data to back up that hiring coaches who 'get the club' results in more success?

The last decade has been dominated by Real Madrid, City, Chelsea and Liverpool. City and Pool have no club affiliation with their managers before, and Real Madrid and Chelsea are notorious for manager changes.

It's easy to cherry pick success or failure stories, but what matters is aggregate data over a wider pool. Do the CEOs of successful S&P500 companies all succeed because they hire CEOs with no exp?

A caretaker manager who does well usually ends up getting the job & who’s to say this “caretaker manager” would actually be any good?

So how is it a make or break game for Ole if he won't get sacked no matter what happens?

Might need to accept that Ole is Utd's Wenger. Never bad enough to be sacked but never good enough to win much. Only difference is that Wenger had Arsenal play some lovely football. My guess is Ole will stay as long as he makes top 4 and qualifies from the group stage of the ECL. Utd fans might have to accept that they will not be winning much over the next 10 years.

Unless we fail to go to the CL knockouts (which might be a decent oossi

If we lose the next few games, we are in a freefall (if we aren't already), surely even the chance of getting a competent manager in would be better than continuing the rest of the season with an incompetent one? We might be able to salvage the season with a cup win or more. Something which is not happening under Ole by the looks of it.

The idea behind the caretaker manager is simple. It gives us the time to assess and get in a good coach to come in next season well before anyone else might potentially be in for them. It also gives time to identify the players for that coach and plan things well ahead of the next season.

City were in for Pep, and they didn't change their mind even when their manager at the time (I forget) was going great and made it to the semis of the CL I think?

He's not getting the sack, you muppets.
Exactly. Not anytime soon, that's for sure. Hiring Conte would be a regressive, idiotic decision that's in keeping with how we are run since Fergie left. I don't understand the clamour for him. He's like a half opened grenade waiting to explode. Do not want under any circumstances.

Ideally we'll have set something in place for the start of next season providing Ole can't improve things.

I'm pretty sure that will be the case. 99% sure this is his last season with us.
Get Ten Haag and be patient again...but football really is a funny old game, we may end up clicking, years ago Howard Kendall's team went from dogshite to a side with immense potential, it just clicked.

cant see us getting thru group tbh. villarreal real banana skin and away to atalanta is gonna be tough

Get Simeone in! I'd love to see this nutter up against baldy pep

With CR7, you don't have to worry.

Ole did not sign CR7 for nothing. He knew CR7 can save his career.

While Ten Hag is clearly a much better coach than, Ole. I do feel he would be somewhat a bit of a punt and not exactly what we should be doing at this point. I wouldn't be disappointed if we went for him or anything, but i'd prefer someone like Luis Enrique to take this squad on to the next level.

The best reason to hire Ten Hag is so we can rename him Twenty-one Hag when he leads us to our next title.

I think he will be sacked if we drop out of the title race early on. That could very well happen in the next four weeks. Chelsea, Man City, and Liverpool have a massive advantage over us as they know we will drop points in these fixtures, allowing them to open the gap. Myself, I think if we lose to Liverpool our title race is done.

The gap will stand at: Chelsea - 8 points; Liverpool - 7 points; Man City - 6 points. If it was just one team to chase down, fine, but having to chase down three quality teams will be too much. I think this will affect our form and our season will collapse. I expect he will be sacked in early December or late November.

This Liverpool game will be difficult as they know they can all but kick us out of the title race today. This will make them more up for it. Better to only have two challengers than three.

My (probably unpopular here) opinion is that be careful what you wish for, new manager could easily feck up and do worse than Ole as much as they could do better. It's not an easy task managing United, and even if they have a great CV like discussed here it could go tits up very easily. We saw it with arsenal under Wenger but also I have seen it elsewhere. Chicago bulls firing Tom thibadou for example. Changing manager does not guarantee success

Mourinho was sacked mid-season so let’s not kid ourselves here, if it’s looking this bad come December he’s gone, if he improves he’ll get more time.
A loss today and being level with Arteta after 1/4 of the season will have the big wigs assessing options, I’m sure of that.

He literally signed a new contract 3 months ago. (which if i remember correctly had 18months on it) He’s not going anywhere.

It was a 3+1 contract that he signed, yes. But we all know contracts mean jack unless you meet your minimum targets. From what i have seen so far this season i would predict that our season will grind to a halt by February and he'll be gone by April or end of season.

His supporters were mocking Arteta, well, you know, it goes around.

It quite clearly said sacked before the end of the season.
So how's it make or break then if the result will have no impact on whether he's sacked before the end of the season?

Was it 3+1? I’d thought it was 2+1. I’m staggered he got more than a year extension, given that he’d just mismanaged The Europe League final and Chelsea had shown what a serious manager can do by appointing Tuchel. With them investing a lot in the squad they could have given him just a year extra (or nothing) and told him it’s time to deliver.

The result has because the top teams are going further away. But I still want United to win no matter who the manager is.

Maybe for the title, not that many believe we're truly in the race, but not for Ole personally.
