Feels like he's basically acting as caretaker again until the right candidate can be appointed. Surely his departure is inevitable - I can't believe anyone at the club other than Ole believes he can turn this around. I suspect the board will be very tentative having had burned fingers with the wrong appointments in the past.

When he does go I hope they recognise that the entire coaching staff should go with him.

Lets be honest we have been for a while, Spurs fans on Saturday will be ruthless.

We ourselves know our board is a bunch of clowns. It’s not just incompetent, it’s clueless. They can’t handle this situation and they haven’t been handling it for months. When they do finally handle it, it will be with more stupidity.

This is very funny to everyone but those of us who have to carry on supporting this club.

The idea that he has 3 games to save his job is just foolish. Any club making a decision based on such a small sample size rather than the bigger picture is clueless. If he's allegedly losing (or has already lost) the players, and he very clearly has no tactical plan, what does 3 games prove? We could scrape 2 jammy wins and a draw, it doesn't make him a suitable manager to challenge for the title or go deep in the Champions League. He evidently is not capable of either.

The best squad we've had post-Fergie, and we're going backwards. Why prolong what is inevitable to happen?

Because they dont have any candidates for either an interim manager a long term one, and need time to find one of them.

Dont think anyone expects Solskjær to keep his job at this point, unless he beats and outplays those 3 teams by a wide margin.

Knowing us we will get them to keep one on for continuity. Funny how that has happened since Moyes and it has all gone wrong. Maybe just have a clean sheet. Let ex players just coach the kids or go elsewhere to learn their trade through the school of hard knocks.

As a Norwegian (not a supporter of Molde), I follow the Norwegian Eliteserien quite a lot. I think these stats from Ole's time at Molde is quite interesting compared to his successor, Erling Moe.

You guys can see the stats yourself, but the short summary is that Molde now is winning more games and scoring more goals with Moe as a manager than Ole.

Ole had a big standing in Molde, but the supporters there often wanted to see him sacked a few times over the years due to underperforming. Molde has maybe the biggest budget and over the years maybe the best overall squad in Norwegian football, but Ole never impressed as a manager there. The time at Molde was quite similar to his time at United actually: No one was impressed by his tactics and ability to make a team progress in terms of playstyle, but he won a decent amount of games due to a decent counterattack and individual performances from his star players.

This Norwegian article from 2019 says the following: "In Molde people have been wanting Ole to be sacked for three years, in Manchester they are so happy because he's their new head coach".

https://www.aftenposten.no/sport/fo...aar-om-at-ole-gunnar-solskjaer-maa-faa-sparke

The time at Cardiff is a chapter that everyone knows of, so the short story is that Ole never had the CV or background to take on a job like this. I know he his the "United-DNA" and you could compare him to Zidane who did excellent at Real Madrid without a large manager background, but Zidane showed that he can win trophies.

Ole has now gone 3 years without winning anything, but he has to be given credit for getting rid of a lot of deadwood in the squad and making harmony again after the years with Mourinho. If we want to win anything again in the coming years, we need a better tactical manager. Give Conte a chance and I think his passion on the sideline alone will bring a lot of enthusiasm back to the supporters.

This myth of Conte leaving his former clubs in a mess is also a bit overrated I think. He terminated his contract at Inter because he and the board couldn't agree on the clubs future in terms of selling/buying players etc. I think a manager should demand a lot from his board, and its a fair thing to go somewhere else when they couldn't agree. Conte is crazy about winning trophies and is not afraid of benching underperforming players (also his stars) if they are not following his plan. That is exactly what we need at this club now, if not I'm afraid that we will remain in mediocrity and never win a single trophy over the coming years.

Absolutely, the first team should not be a development place for coaches and managers it should be the top of the tree! We've got a coaching team full of guys learning the trade....but who are they learning from!?
Bringing in one to learn and develop from experienced staff is fine but we have a full team of inexperience and without the credentials to be at a top team.
It's unreal to be honest. Where else would you see that!

This treatment of Ole from the board is shambolic. He won't but I would love for him to hit back at the board and ownership when the axe does eventually fall.

The excuse is given that they know how Manchester United works blah! blah! blah!. Not sure they do.

He won't as they'll put a disclosure in the settlement agreement that he can't speak out about the club for a certain length, like Moyes, LvG and Jose.

Agree he is being hung out to dry. Not sure he will be allowed to say anything. It will be written into his severance package.

I recall a really uncomfortable press conference that Van Gaal had to do when it had been speculated all week he was getting the sack, Jose was coming in etc. It isn't fair to put someone in that position and now Ole is going to get weeks of it.

Louis's treatment was awful, but Ole is a club legend so he is going to get humiliated every ground he goes to.

It is disgraceful, no doubt about it. I’m ‘Solskjaer out’ since May 2019 (but have no hesitation admitting that I retracted that stance briefly at certain times since then as I was willing to go along with the progression we were making in particular areas), however, the way this has been handled since Sunday is nothing short of shambolic.

I’d love Solskjaer to go full balls-out against Spurs at the weekend and play ‘his guys’. Drop the prima-donnas, play those who’ll put a shift in and promote from the u23s if required. I’m absolutely done with the notion that the players aren’t playing for him so as a manager, he needs to put out an XI who will play for him. At least the supporters can get behind that - I know I, for one, certainly will.

No manager is going to agree to come here if Carrick, McKenna and Phelan are his senior coaches.

He can always resign to be fair. This putting the coach on 'probation' has happened in the other leagues (Italian, Spanish) all the time. He either swims or sinks (or resigns).

Good post. I could not agree more. I think it's baffling that United (arguably the biggest club in the world) permanently hired a manager with a pedigree as bad as his in the first place - regardless of his time as interim coach - let alone keep him when it's so obvious that he's not good enough.

I also agree with your point about Conte.

Club is being dragged through the mood and board is just sitting there, watching it unfold.

Great that Pogba has stood up and made it clear.

Shame that the people in charge of the club can’t find it within themselves to do the same thing isn’t it.
Wouldn't surprise me if someone up high put the story out there to make him look bad. Glad Paul is standing up for himself.

Ronaldo interim player manager
I know you say this in jest but seriously wouldn't be a bad idea at all.

With all the stuff about him being a vocal leader in the dressing room whenever things are getting rough it sounds like he's already a much better leader and commands much more respect than our supposed 'captain'

Pogba and Ronaldo out there supporting the coach. Meawhile complete radio silence from our so called captain.

This week is a dream for Luckhurst and numerous journalists. Running commentary on Twitter and new articles every few hours.

These last few days have been truly embarrassing from the old boys lot..

This is very funny to everyone but those of us who have to carry on supporting this club.

Managerial shitshows are always hilarious to watch for fans of other clubs. I thoroughly enjoyed Arteta's madness, Hodgson at Liverpool, Mourinho at Spurs, currently Koeman at Barcelona. United will always provide good ammo for this because of how much we drag our feet to make the right decisions.
