We don't actually know the true state of the dressing room though do we? And look, I want Ole gone too but there just seems little sense to jettison him this week when we have 3 important games coming up without a good option to replace him.

We don't know for sure what's going on, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the players have lost faith. It's been clear as a bell for a while now.

In any case, I think you can put anyone in charge for those 3 important games and they'll be just as likely to get results as Ole will.

I am available for what it's worth, just throwing that out there :)

People saying the club are embarrassing for not sacking him but I think it's more to do with them having no direct alternative as they rightfully have doubts about Conte's style and more importantly for them his abrasive personality when he doesn't get what he wants, and Zidane apparently isn't interested.
Do not care you sack now. You do not let this embarrassment continue.

FFS they cant keep him when most of the players are not playing for him. We will only lose more games before the inevitable. Im convinced we are the worst runned club ever in any sport. A laughing stock, a circus..

Our fans need to become more vocal. The protests need to start again, and if i hear Oles at the wheel again, we only sing for the Glazers, not the club.

I do feel somewhat for the board in this situation, although much of where we've ended up - and how we've got there over the past decade - can and should be levied at them.

If we were to sack Ole now, it's very hard for the next appointment to be one that fits in with any long-term plan the club has. You're basically picking from who is the best available option rather than who is best full-stop.

There have always been justifiable questions around Ole's managerial credentials and ability to manage us, but I think few - if any - would have thought our season was going to nose-dive quite this badly. I wasn't convinced we'd win anything this season, but that we'd certainly get top 4, and that we could part (relatively) amicably with Ole well in the knowledge he'd improved us no-end and that the manager stepping in wasn't a last-minute find.

But we are staring at a situation which is getting as close to untenable as it's possible to get, especially if reports around squad discontent are to be believed.

If he does go, it will be Conte. And if that does happen, I fail to see a situation where we're once more scrambling for a replacement in 2/3 seasons time.

Hang on a minute.

I don't rate Ole at all but this is getting ridiculous. The coaches should be traing around the formation the manager decides he wants to use , he is in charge after all, not second guessing him and choosing to train to their own preferred system.

Having said that it would explain the dysfunctional team performances in recent weeks.
Surely it should be a two way street, an open forum. It's not like the manager is always right. If they tell him the formation isn't working and recommend a better formation, what's wrong with that?

Yes, results have been shocking, he has to go now. But what's to be gained leaving us with no one in charge at all?

In charge of what? Picking a team, taking training etc? Carrick and McKenna are already heavily involved with that. It's not like it's transfer season. I'm pretty sure that between them, they can plan the next 3 games, though we may strike a deal with somebody else in the meantime. But that international break is a good time for a new manager.

My point is that we will probably be better off result and performance wise if we saw the back of Ole with everything that has happened already this week. Even if it is just Carrick who steps in temporarily, the players might forget about the Ole debacle and crack on.

Even in the worst case scenario, we wouldn't be seeing a humiliation like the Liverpool match. It's not the scoreline, but the manner of the defeat which was embarassing.
It's a new low for our standards in the post-successful football club era. It should never be allowed to be accepted and should cost the manager his job on the spot, unless of course he has genuine credit in the bank in the form of League title/CL wins.

I'm pretty sure the process has already started but what's to be gained rushing him out of the door before a replacement has been identified and contacted?

If you don’t have a listing of suitable replacements and a good idea as to their cost and availability then the business that is your football club hasn’t maintained a succession plan, which in business operating terms is not just poor but completely unforgivable.

ahh I also remember my first couple times eagerly awaiting the Ole sack announcement. Strap in boys, heavy heavy disappointment is coming your way today and beyond.
Exactly how I feel. I have wanted him gone for years and every single time the possiblity was there he managed to find a way of getting out of it. It wouldn't surprise me to see him still in the job by Christmas

I know, I'm all for changing manager now but some in the FF's want him escorted immediately off the premises, to hell with creating a chaotic void for the next 2 weeks.

Yeah, I want him gone as well but I want a plan in place, not just hopping into bed with whomever is available.

Do not care you sack now. You do not let this embarrassment continue.

You have to put someone in charge though, something they currently weren't planning for.

Seriously for once in our lives just act like a fecking football club and sack the man

The reports today/yesterday coming from briefs from the players is saying everything, they have given up and want him sacked.

What are we waiting for?

Imagine it's tough getting a decent manager in October/November. Conte is obviously available, but even then it's a case of hiring his entire coaching staff and agreeing who is staying and who is going from the current lot (read: Conte/any normal manager will want them all gone).

Ole should be sacked and we all know he will be sacked at some point, but it takes time. Last time we got rid of a manager mid-season we had Ole lined up as caretaker pretty quickly because he was willing to drop everything for United. Unless we want to make the same mistake again by bringing in Giggs or another random ex-United player who can't manage, we'll have to wait a while.

We're in such a shit position it's painful.

That’s why we are all confident he is staying:lol:
There's still reports coming out of Italy that Conte has given the ok for joining immediately, or after the break. From reliable Italian sources I might add. So in England we have everyone saying Ole is being given another chance. Meanwhile, In Italy they seem confident of Conte getting the job. We as a club under the current management always do this, hold our cards close to the chest. With the leaks from the players yesterday and the Italian reports of contacting Conte it seems to me that as soon as they strike a deal he's gone, he definitely won't be in charge against Tottenham, even our board couldn't be that incompetent.

We did this with Mourinho as well in case I remember, he received a vote of confidence from the club briefing the media then when they found a caretaker (Ole) he was gone 12 hours later.

Even in the worst case scenario, we wouldn't be seeing a humiliation like the Liverpool match. It's not the scoreline, but the manner of the defeat which was embarassing.

Yeah it will never be a 5-0 but it might be this :

He’s still going to sacked, he’s just not going to be sacked right this minute, seemingly. I don’t quite get the mouth-frothing anger over this delaying of the inevitable. Can only hope the club is taking the time to line up a replacement.
Some fans are applying the same logic to this as they do transfers. Hanging on every Romano tweet, getting desperate for the magic bullet.

It's a big decision and sounding out new managers should take time. They want the right man and, by delaying the inevitable they'd let Ole see out a tough couple of weeks and give a new manager an easier run to kick off the new manager bounce.

Plus, if they're not sold on the options available they might need to be thinking about caretakers and end of season candidates. It's not like they can expect to swoop in flashing the cash and get whoever they want immediately.

Watching games when we get annihilated by rivals is grim, i get that. Especially if you see no endgame. Carrying on doing something that gives too much heartache is not good for wellbeing.

Out of interest, what do you plan to do now then? Watch football but avoid our games or watch less/no football and watch more of something else?
I'll just stop going and spend time with my daughter instead.

Call me a glory hunter if you want, I'm past caring really. I can stomach the not winning, having been to every home game apart from 5 in the 8 years since Fergie retired I've probably been pissed off more than 50% of the 3 hour journeys home so I'm used to it. It's the complete lack of effort of not even bothering to compete is where I draw the line. I'm not wasting any more of my life until the club show they at least want to fecking win. That's the bare minimum standard any club should set, we don't for some reason.

The press conference for the weekend will be fun. Normally I don't watch these as ole just talks shite, but this week will be interesting

Chill out you bunch of knee jerk whining kids. They're not going to sack him after the Liverpool game, he'll go after Tottenham or Atalanta, or the game after the City game. We aren't going to give those lot the satisfaction of sacking our managers and it gives us time to speak to other managers and put something in place. He's as good as gone so stop acting like kids because they didn't sack him yesterday when you wanted it to happen.

I don't buy that. They don't have a plan B in place and they have been caught out.

Just as I expected he's not getting sacked as the board is clueless and frankly gutless. He will have until the international break in the hope he turns it around.

If he wins 2 out of the next 3 he's staying the season or until we can't make top 4. Said it a few times on here, they're writing this season off

They're essentially saying we don't matter fan base with this decision. The fans need to get out and protest and it's fecking depressing that it's come to this for Ole.
More like they're afraid of what the fans would do if they feck up yet again when even a fan favourite like Ole couldn't take the heat off them.

I think Ole will stay in place until the Arsenal game on 02/12/2021.

Similar to how Jose was only sacked after a string of difficult games so that Solksjaer could get his tenure off to a flying start against Cardiff.

Any replacement will appreciate beginning against Palace, YB, Norwich, Brentford, Brighton, Newcastle and Burnley. That will ensure the new manager bounce isn't wasted against the likes of City or Chelsea.

Again no one is coming to Manchester united to learn from ole. Even before he had one foot out of the door no promising coaches would want to learn under someone who's managerial highlight is getting a club relegated. You're living in a dreamland

Who said anything about learning from Ole??

Ole would manage the squad, not coach the squad. That's the coaches job.

Coaches would come in and coach the players and teach them what to do whilst Ole would manage the squad.

I’ld give Ole another two games and then (if there is no improvement) bring in Bruce until the end of the season OR until a new non-panic appointment can be made.

Love OGS as a person and his passion for the club is undeniable.

But put the poor guy out of his misery, this is only going to get messier. It's unfair to Ole to put him through more of it.

Great, but United should never be a charity to give jobs to our ex-players. Bruce is not a good manager, no need to get him here.
If he was a bad manager he wouldn't have made it to 1000 games, he'd have stopped after 1 or 2 jobs like Neville and Ince. If the choice was Carrick, Fletcher, Giggs or Bruce for a couple of games I would go with Bruce.

Trouble with this club is win one of those games and they would give him a 5 year contract, which would not be a good idea.

That’s the worry. One or two good results and he’ll be off the hook with the board and thus the cycle will start again. By that point we’ll be 20 points behind the league leaders.

It's s mad decision though to make to keep him In charge until a fun of easier games.

By that time our season will be pretty much done

What an absurd & embarrassing situation. Ole was already failing this season and showing few signs of turning it around. Now he has the added burdens of a dressing room briefing against him and the knowledge that one more defeat and he's probably sacked anyway. The next press conference is going to be brutal.
