Is Ole a good appointment?

Jesus why are you digging up old quotes that don't actually show anything outrageous

Point out what I said that was relevant to the accusation. Or better yet PM me about it - there's no value in derailing an Ole thread.
Don't have time to look for all the ridiculous arguments you made in that thread and in the Pogba's one. This bit is basically you implicitly implying we can't play attacking football because defense couldn't be trusted :

"A lot of posters had hate festering since the final embers of last season which is bizzare. Our defence was and is truly a pile of wank. He was far more conservative to win games knowing there was a limited defence to lean on. I think attacking football could have come but at a cost to less points"

But sorry no need to bring this up again, it's all past, let's enjoy the present. ;)

My biggest reservation with Ole, at the moment, is with him referring to Saf nearly all the time. I want him to be his own man. I want him to lay down HIS marker. Talk about what HE brings and the thoughts HE has on the team. Maybe I'm being a little harsh on him. Maybe after the Dubai break, where he has got to spend time with the squad, he may start being his own man.

But so far, so good. There are a lot of question marks, such as player acquisitions etc but that will be on the shoulders of any new DoF.

I agree. Obviously he played under a philosophy for the majority of his career with lots of success, and that was SAF's philosophy. So it's only natural that he believes the game should be played that way, and his past experiences is affecting his management style today.

But I'm worried he is trying to imitate and be like SAF. It's okay if he draws inspiration but he has to be, as you put it, his own man.

The view that our defence is wank is widely accepted. Me saying Jose was more conservative (even by his standards) partly with this in mind isn't exactly false. I didn't say we had no way we could play attacking football whatsoever.

Defence is the foundation of a team, Fergie believed it and so does OGS. Defence wasn't a sole contributor to our shit attack, but the lack of quality in our defence meant our manager believed they needed more protection.

As I said, Pm me to discuss further or move on. Don't accuse me for shit I didn't say though. I never said we'd be a super attacking team if we bought a CB. It would help in solidarity and playing out from the back though.

I personally think Solskjaer will be a fantastic manager for us. And I`m a little bit disappointed tbh when I see a lot of people here say he got little experience as a manager from before.

As a manager for Molde he did a lot of impressive stuff. Remember Molde is a very small "city" in Norway with only 26 900 inhabitans.
They won the league title x 2, a league Rosenborg have been dominating for many years.
Ole took them to Europa League, in league 2015/16 they won their group, with strong opponents like Celtic, Ajax and Fenerbache.
From a small city in Norway his results in Europe are extraordinary!!

As a new user here I am not allowed to upload images yet, but google: "molde europa league 2015 tabel"

Molde Celtic 3-1 :
Celtic- Molde 1-2
Molde- Fenerbachce 2-0
Fenerbache - Molde 1-0
Ajax-Molde 1-1
Molde- Ajax 1-1

18th final: Molde- Sevilla 1-0. Exit Molde when they lost 0-3 in Sevilla.

This year they also beat Zenit 2-1 in 2018..

Solskjaer always loves to play attacking football, and he is extraordinary with young talents.
Erlin Braut Håland is a wonderkid, and a result of Molde and Ole. He just signed now for Redbull Salzburg:
Search him up on youtub! Hopefully he will sign for Man Utd one day!

He is already hardly missed here in Molde... Wish him all the best in Man Utd
Absolutely spot on. I'm also surprised by people saying he isn't good enough and has no experience. Is the Cardiff relegation really that big of a blotch on a CV? I don't think many managers with a progressive style could do much better there. The likes or Warnock or a Big Sam would always get better results at a club like that in my opinion.

Tbh Wikipedia says Ole took over Molde again on the 21st of October. The first two games were played before he arrived and they won against Celtic at home a day after he arrived.

You will never cure from this.

The truth is you branded a lot of nonsense in order to vindicate Mourinho that you surely have erased them from your memory now that he's gone and we're doing well despite you and many others of his fans telling us we'll struggle without him.

Anyway I don't want to discuss it any farther as I've no interest in bringing back dark memories. Ole is doing well with this team, I'm happy and enjoying this moment.

When the feck did I say we would struggle without him? The bold bit is hilariously contradictory, you really are giving me a chuckle.

I think you'd benefit from visiting my posts since the Palace game. I said it was time to go and after he left and after Ole came in, I said I was wrong to back Jose the way I did. Funnily enough you've lazily assumed I am trying to erase it from memory when I've literally done the opposite. Good one, maybe try harder next time and stick to topic perhaps?

You're the one who'll benefit from visiting your own old posts especially in that Mourinho thread. You and some people were really really annoying with your stupid arguments and the shifting of the post to always back your man.

Anyway let this one sink because you'll never accept that you were wrong, the way you kept defending Mourinho is proof enough that no one can get the better of your arguments, so no need to continue with this.

Fair play on admitting you were wrong to back him to the hilt.

This isn't aimed at you anyone in particular but there were some very rigid and strangely formed arguments around Mourinho's time in charge this season that appear to be well on their to being crushed by Ole. And many of us made the exact arguements Ole's short tenure is proving. Two of them are:
  • That contrary to the belief of some, our squad is actually pretty good rather than terrible.
  • That it is possible for this team play attacking football on the front foot with this team without being a joke defensively and losing every game. Yes, we can improve our defence but we saw this bizarre notion creeping about that a defensive/non attacking manager was playing defensive/non attacking football because of our leaky defence. The truth is that him being that kind of manager had more to do it than anything else. Our defence just made him even more cautious than he normally would be.

What I'm most shocked by is our goalscoring. This is a team that has been poor in attack for a number of years. I thought we'd have attacking intent and I do believe we have a lot of quality going for ard but didn't believe Ole would manage to get us scoring so freely so quickly after Mourinho. Brilliant stuff.

I completely agree with the second part. I am not convinced about the strength in our squad however. We have a Ferrari in attack but need quality to compliment Pogba and some fixing in defence yet.

Am far from shocked. Anat man and his dog can see the talent we have up front. Alexis Sanchez and Lukaku aren't first choice. I know they have their faults but those are proven EPL players. We had a manager with serious flaws. We only saw glimpses of our potential under LVG (Martial and Rashford) but Mourinho completely sucked the life out of the attack with his insistence on playing a target man.

I actually think our strongest XI is very good but below that there isn't much quality as demonstrated on Saturday against Reddit.
Well that’s because we pretty much used a whole different team. A lot of the players who played against Reading would do better if they were just part of one or two changes to the side.

My heart says give the job to Ole.

My head says let's wait till the end of the season and see how things go. But then in all likelihood give the job to Ole.

I would not set the bar ridiculously high for him to get the job. I would not make it contingent on getting top 4, winning the FA Cup, getting to the SF of the CL or anything like that. I dont know what specific KPIs I would set for him tbh, he just has to do well - not brilliantly, not winning every game, just winning more than not and entertaining.

Give him ten games, at least, until we start the discussion on appointing him manager.

Give him till the end of the season. By then his body of work will be large enough to gather an accurate assessment on his long term viability.

So far this has been a fantastic interim appointment, we do not need to rush any decisions though

Similar position to myself.

My heart says give it to him now, but my head says we should stick to the plan to give it someone with a bit more stature (not necessarily a CV full of trophies) that also fits the bill of playing how we want the team to play, and developing youth. Truly long term managerial appointments seem few and far behind these days, so a good three or four years out of someone fitting that bill, then if the rest of this season goes well, Ole could be in contention to take the reigns then.

Playing a new 11 in a cup game never goes well. The quality in our backups no worse than Chelsea, Arsenal Spurs and Liverpool.

There's writing that you accept you were wrong, and actually believing it. You were one of the people who defended him till last day, what suddenly made you change your mind then?

I believe you said some truly astonishing things that was hard for me to believe to give an excuse to Mou. We have a desi Whatsapp group and have railed against you many a times for some of the outrageous things you posted in support of Mou. #Truestory

Why not wait until the end of the season? We don’t have to make that decision now, and Solskjær seems aware and okay with it. I really want him to get it, but I do agree we need to see how he handles setbacks and losses, how he deals with the top teams, not just in one game but all of them until season end.

So obviously clearly the right man for the job.

The days of the big character manager at the big clubs is over. Ole is PERFECT for United.

Unlike all the other big 6 (even Liverpool), the power of United is in its history. Trying to break form the Ferguson era has proven to be the wrong move. Crap football followed by cautious football followed by defensive football. That is not United.

Yes, Ole has had it easy by the run of fixtures and he has had it easy by not being Mourinho - but he IS United. He is steeped in Ferguson ideology. And that is what United need to get back to. That is not being regressive. That is being United.
