Is Ole a good appointment?

This guy has taken you from mid-table mediocrity, playing poor jammy football to four straight wins and back in with a chance of a top 4 finish. And some of you guys still aren't behind him 100%?

I hope he leaves in June, I don't think you deserve him. Chase Poch and see where that gets you.

4 straight wins is fantastic progress and a lot of managers would not have done what Ole has done with the state the dressing room is in. How he has transformed a pretty much depressed football side playing negative football into a free scoring goal machine of a team whilst looking like hes kept everyone happy and 4 wins on the spin is beyond me..

No moaning, no negativity, no pressure on the board to sign players in January. He's simply keeping his head down, empowering the staff, empowering the players and keeping everyone spirited.

Or keep trying and you will finally get the breakthrough? Its all about how you perceive things.

SAF had lot of late second half Jammy goals - were all of them due to poor luck?
Re: scrappy, kinda replying to posters saying mourinho would have put fellaini on to get a scrappy goal... ignoring the fact that our goal was scrappy.

I think there is some support behind the idea that if you can't break down a team at all over 85 mins then trying something different has merit, but I take your point

Why are people getting so excited? It has only been 4 games. It was only Newcastle today. Even Moyes won his first game.

Because he’s a breath of fresh air and he has us playing attacking football again.

This interim appointment couldn’t have started any better. Ole deserves full credit.

He gets my backing for the full time gig just as long as he never plays Valencia and Mata together on the right again.

Great post. Spot on.

I have a feeling we willl keep him on after seeing a major resurgence in our players and our style of play. I am not opposed to the idea either, if we carry on that is. Personally I think managing is such a tricky side of football to judge. After seeing established managers fail and newbies do well I genuinely find it hard to accurately predict the outcome of any manager in today's game. And after seeing us look like a whole new team from the first game of ole's tenure tells me why not.

Shouldn't have picked Valencia and Mata for today but made up for it with his subs. Loved him signalling to the forwards on what type of free-kick was being taken (run-in and pick up any rebounds) moments before we scored. He had the 'knack' as a player and he seems to have it as a manager.

I would have said the 11.2% of people who answered no to the above question were oppo fans, but having seen the match day thread some of our fans seem genuinely butt-hurt that we’re not terrible anymore. I think the moan fest that this forum had turned into was therapy for some of them.

4 games, 12 points (gaining 5 points on both Chelsea and Arsenal)

Ex Utd striker as manager, with Phelan on board and SAF there to advise when needed, this is as close to having Fergie in the dugout as you can get.

Love it.

I know know why inexperienced managers always wait until the magic 60 mins before bringing on needed change. The right side choice of players today forced us to play too narrow and predictable. Valencia's place in the team needs to be evaluated.

Interviewer: ‘Was that a managerial master stroke, you make a sub and he scores in with his first touch?’
Ole: ‘No that’s what a good sub, that he came on did well and did his job. That’s got nothing to do with the manager’

It’s literally night and day compared to Jose. During Jose’s tenure I wasn’t against him I just thought he wasn’t a good fit. But now with hindsight and the comparison to someone so humble in front of the media, feck Jose, what a dick.

Most fans may have concerns about his record and others don't like the fact that he's not a shiny toy, so they refuse to see certain improvements which weren't present for many years, not just during Jose's reign. He's just a manager who manages Modle Fk while our previous three managers (Moyes:lol: , LVG and Jose) didn't seem to understand the simple concept of Pass and Move.

Really love it when all the coaches celebrate the goals together.

One change I've noticed, and which I think is definitely an order from the manager, is that all our players celebrate together when we score.. Used to always be the case but stopped happening at some stage under previous managers .

Yeah, we're not giddy Liverpool fans!

Football management is not as straightforward as football playing, and I'm not sure why people constantly are mixing these two up.

While it does take certain special skills to succeed in top clubs as manager, it is much less of a step up to manage Manchester United after Molde than to play for Manchester United after playing for Molde.

If it was that simple to judge managers, than we could just easily say that Allardyce and Hodgson are better than Ole just because they have had more experience managing Premier league sides. Well, we all know it isn't true.

From what I know of Norwegian football, Ole has done considerably well there and I'm not sure Guardiola, Pochettino, Klopp or any other fancy manager would have made much more.

I've had arguments earlier on with people who claimed that this club should only ever go for proven winners in mould of Mourinho and I'm hopeful they now realise that top clubs should only go for modern ideas which could make both them and their managers winners, regardless of whether these managers have been that before. Mourinho is clearly not a top manager anymore, and even if Solskjaer/Pochettino/Klopp never win as much as he did, they will for the time being stay in the class above.

EDIT: I'm not putting Solskjaer in Pochettino/Klopp bracket just yet, but guy is showing plenty of promise so far, so let's see where it takes him.

I want to know if any other manager had such an easy start fixture. Newcastle was the hardest of the bunch and he did well.

Regardless, I m not on the train yet. Di Mateo won the champions league with Chelsea and where is he managing now?

Look I'm loving a bit of Ole hype but at the end of the day right now Poch is still clearly the outstanding candidate for this job.

But I find the Di Matteo comparisons that constantly get brought out pretty tirestone. He may not have worked out long term but that doesn't mean Ole wouldn't.

And frankly, if people do what to cling to the Di Matteo thing - After 6 years of Moyes, LVG and Jose? IF Ole 'only' wins a champions league and FA before getting fired .... I can live with that.

He's not really if we're talking about managing a massive club.

Zidane is clearly alongside him at least despite all the crying about him not being a legit manager.

Enjoying footy again. I was close to giving up to press flowers and knitting if Jose had stayed but Ole restored my faith.

An inspired appointment.

Can't say I'm too fussed on Zidane at all personally. Won with a ready made fantastic team full of stars then quickly burned out.

Zidane wouldn't be my top choice or my plan B. But each to their own.

There is a massive gap between Molde, Cardiff and United, both in terms of ability and expectations.

Ask yourself, if you put Pep, Klopp or Mourinho in charge of that Cardiff side instead of Ole, do you think they would have fared any better?

What are you trying to tell me? All I'm saying is hes coming from a lower level of management. No ones suggesting Cardiff was his fault

If Ole does those things, I will definitely get a VIP ticket on the train, but my expectations of him is not even that high. I just want to see his tactical proficiency and how he can motivate our players to perform under very difficult situations. Moreover, a continuance of our current football and an understanding of our problems area.

I'm sure you can knit while watching, my mother knits while watching tv all the time.

A lot of the fans are trying to keep their feet on the ground and not get carried away. He's done really really well so far but still has the rest of the season to play for, I reckon the club will make a decision around April.

Anyway, you guys have some experience with these things. What happened to your man Dalglish after his temporary position was made permanent?

Chelsea didn’t really play that well under Di Matteo. They did win CL but it took unprecedented amount of luck against Barcelona and Bayern to pull it off.

If Ole can have us maintain this kind of style against good teams and gets us a top 4 finish then he probably deserves to stay for next season. Question is whether he really wants to stay.

Ole can only be applauded for all he’s achieved in such a short space of time. Surely no one is seriously criticising him already?! If so, go and give your head a wobble.

Perhaps he shouldn’t have started both Valencia and Mata together (serious lack of pace)? A little slow in making the subs, and I don’t think Valencia should have been given the full 90. That’s an observation, not a direct criticism.

But we won 2-0 at St James, something we’ve not done since 4th March 2015 under LVG.

Great first post! Fully agree.

After the last 4 easy fixtures we face Tottenham and then we get potentially four easy game against Brighton, Burnely, Leicester and Fulham before we meet Liverpool.
This should more or less determine OLE. If you want to stretch further , After two easy games we face arsenal and city.

You forgot the PSG games sandwiched in between.
