Is Ole a good appointment?

Much happier to have them in charge. They love the club and will be respectful towards everyone associated with it. It feels like a dark cloud has been lifted off United.

A big gamble. Should have gone all out and got a permanent manager.

If a manager is prepared to leave his club now to come to us then it shows no loyalty. The end of the season would be a good time for him to leave his present club. If they have someone in mind, they will be in contact and getting things ready for him hopefully.

I am in an odd frame of mind about this- part of me is saying free hit. just go for it, play with freedom, the other half actually makes me worried we will be in a relegation dog fight come May.

There are many better managers around however i doubt they would accept an interim role. Ole is available, he has more managerial experience then most of united's former players and in phelan he will find an experienced no 2 who will help him bridge the experience he needs to do well in the EPL
Yes, pretty much this.

We just need someone to lift the cloud of toxicity that Mourinho brought to the club. You know, a bit of relief, some hope after the relentless dour negativity of the last two and a half seasons.

I'm not necessarily happy with the appointment in terms of improving us this season, but I am hugely positive about it in terms of what it seems to indicate going forwards. It sounds like the board understand why fans haven't warmed to previous managers, that they understand what they got wrong, and that they understand how to fix it.

I do hope that Solskjaer is as much of a fan as he makes out and already is quite familiar with the squad. If we can hit the ground running by binning off Young, Matic, Fellaini and Lukaku from the first team that would be a great start.

While I’m a bit worried the first thing that will get me allot more confident is when I don’t see fellaini young and matic in this team. If he gets pogba, Herrera, Fred and perrera has the foundations for our engine room from now until the end of the season, well I be pretty happy right there. If ole wants us playing positive football, matic young and fellaini are the three esp who cannot be starting games, those players for me are the face of the Jose Mourinho backbone that sunk us

Welcome back!

Finally some good vibes are back around the ground.

Mike Phelan - interesting. Maybe it’ll turn out he was the true mastermind of our success in Fergie’s latter years!

Good to see two people who know the club well taking charge.

I got teary eyes just thinking these two will be back in the Club again.

There is no rush.

I like the fact that we are taking our time bringing in the new guy. We need to do more than change the manager, and this will give us the time to do that. Hopefully hiring a competent a DOF who can deal with sorting out the contracts issues with some of our better players.

I think Ole will only be here for 6 months, and we will lose some and win some. But it will lift the toxic cloud that has engulfed this club over the last year or so.

Nice to see him back at the club. That goal in the CL Final is still an all time favourite moment.

Just need him and Phelan to get the players united and wanting to perform. Good style of football at the very least is all i want

Pleased with Ole and Phelan in particular. It'll be great to see them shorts again. Hopefully they create a positive atmosphere in which the players will thrive.

Hoping we'll see a director of football or technical director appointed soon so we can start building in the January window.

Fellaini has proven that he can play in a team that plays good football. Did with Van Gaal for a while. The problem is that desperate managers resort to using him as a route one.

The club can utilize the written off season very nicely.
Prepare for next season!

Yep. I dont think its just sentimental. Two talented coaches here that fans will rally behind. Players have to put up or shut up now. Allows time to get next aoo right and also trial runs a more experimental appointment.

I love ole. Ill say it again

At the very least, this is an indication that the club and board are aware of a "United" style, heritage and image.

The absence of this has easily been the most depressing thing about the past 4-5 seasons. Winning and sustained success is synonymous with the club, but we're a fair way from achieving that currently. The building of this starts with going back to basics and remembering a bit about this incredible club. I firmly believe that Ole is the beginning of doing just that. He may not "achieve" anything significant this season, but there's going to be a lot to enjoy about his time here.

For those casting doubts and suggesting this is an overly romantic move by the club, remember we are a club that is romantic. Be it absolute success or genuine heartbreak, we are built on both. There aren't many clubs like us in the world - and our history, style and success should lay the foundations for our future.

Very Sensible post. Let's be patient now, we are not going to win anything might as well enjoy the ride.

He is not going to do any clear-outs. That will be the business of the permanent manager. He will be here to ensure he can get the best possible results for the current season, no more no less is his job.

That being said, I would be happy if he ostracized Valencia, Jones and Lingard from the XI and subs. We don't need any of them. McTominay should go on loan ASAP, I reckon a Championship club would take him and eventually buy him in a year or two. Young should be shipped out, but currently we have no back-up for Shaw at LB and so he still needs to play a role for now; we cannot completely drop him.

As for Smalling, he is a good squad player and can stay for 1 more year till Bailly and Lindelof develop, and if we buy a world class CB.

Sadly no new manager can do all this and survive. That's like all the old guards backing each other.

This. 100%.

I'm pretty excited about this appointment. I think a familiar face and someone who knows exactly what United is about is a great choice, especially with the list of coaches that are going to be assisting him.

I cannot wait to hear Old Trafford roar when we walks out for the first time as a manager.

Passing the ball aimlessly side to side is not good football. How shit LVG's football was was one of the reasons he went.

We all know conversations and deals happen behind the scenes all the time. While there's some criticism we are 'writing the season off' by appointing a caretaker, I wonder (and hope) that there's already an agreement in place with the new manager, maybe (and again hopefully!) Pochettino.

Part of the fabric of the club and has a head-start due to his legendary status. He'll respect the traditions of the club for sure. Expect attacking football. Whether we can make that winning, attacking football, let's see!

Sceptical of Ole but to say he failed at Cardiff should really look at that situation, he took over a club in worse turmoil than ours, having a meddlesome Vincent Tan involved in team affairs was always a disaster waiting to happen... stranger things have happened at least.

I have a feeling you and others are going to be disappointed & many of these Mourinho stalwarts, in particular Matic, will still be in the side.

Woodwards statement there shows how toxic it was in the club. This has a feel good factor about it and that alone should allow the players some freedom and relief. The fans can get behind Ole like pretty much no other appointment as interim you could imagine. And given we all thought top 4 was goosed and PSG only had to turn up to beat us we literally have nothing to lose. I dont care where we finish this year so longs I can watch United and enjoy it again. This past couple years have been dreadful. On top of that I have no doubt Fergie was behind this and will guide this to seasons end. That makes me happy and optimistic.

I love Ole and I’m actually excited to see how he does, imagine the scenes if he’s a huge success but I can’t imagine any other big team appointing someone with that little top league experience, if they were truly ambitious about trying to salvage a season. I really thought it’d be someone much higher profile, I hope the club does a much better job with the DoF and fulltime manager appointments.

That being said, this has got me giddy with excitement for Saturday, guess the heart wins over the head every time.

They still think we’d get 4th. Which is virtually impossible as we need Chelsea to lose 3 games and draw 2 as well as get a better goal difference. Then hope Arsenal go on a similar run too. PSG in champions league will be tough. We don’t have much to play for besides FA Cup. Club left it too late to sack Jose.
4th place is long gone. The best we can hope is to play some decent football and so prepare for the next season. UCL can always happen (see Chelsea with Di Matteo) but that isn't something we should aim for. If it happens it is great, but chances are extremely low anyway.

Mourinho should have been sacked at the end of last season, or in September if we wanted to save our season.

When we hear ole speak? Press conf?

As an aside does Scholes have badges? Id love to see him brought in as a temporary coach getting the team used to make fast incisive forward passes. That said after what hes been saying on BT sport I'm sure some of the players would roast him.
