Is Ole a good appointment?

Apparently some betting companies are now paying out to whoever betted on Ole as the next permanent manager. Coolbet just announced they are paying out to the winners, as they are that certain the confirmation is a formality at this point.

I very much believe a decision is already made, simply because Molde cannot live with not knowing whether they have a manager for the coming season.

Been thinking about this a lot. Molde's season begins at the end of March. It would be an immense favor to them if they knew by the end of February that they won't be getting Ole back and they need to be making more permanent plans themselves.

Bit different with us having Moyes (who was a Fergie recommendation) realising our mistake, and then going after LVG and Jose, and Real's list of non-entities, no? I mean seriously, look at this lot from Toshack onwards (minus Del Bosque's second spell and to a certain extent Zidane):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Real_Madrid_CF_managers

There really is no comparison here. The Real manager's post is a poisoned chalice, and has been ever since Perez first got in and established himself at boardroom level.

For players, they will always be among the most desirable of destinations (which I will always accept) but managers? Nah, no chance.

They also did the same moving from such trash to big names later on. Again the only reason we don't have much stinkers is because Fergie saved us from talking about managerial changing, but once he left we landed Moyes.

Not sure many neutrals are going to agree on your view.

He still hasn't beaten a top team which has a full squad without any injuries so if he passes that test I guess he can stay.

Haha

I'm not sure Poch would want the job right now. With all the positivity going on the downside for him would be immense. A few bad results and everyone would be screaming for Ole.

Agreed. If we hire Poch and he has a less than ideal start then the knives will be out pretty fast, which makes me think Ole at this point is actually less of risk than Poch since hes already here and hes a club legend so fans will have more patience with him.

If Ole gets the job and it all goes to shit after a season or two then we might give Poch a call, dont think doing it the other way around is possible

Even if he would not get the United job he's hardly going back to manage a club in Norway. He would likely have loads of offers from much better clubs in much better leagues. They should definitely consider him gone.

I'd like to see how he deals with a real test first, like facing Barca in a crucial CL semi-final from 2-0 down in the first leg, with our entire first team either injured or suspended, along with all our reserve goalkeepers, and everyone else has an annoying stone in their boots that they can't get rid of. And it's really snowy but Barca have slyly only cleared the snow underneath Messi. It would be irresponsible of the board to make any decisions until the outcome of this exact situation is known.

It’s probably purely nostalgia and childish excitement why I can’t see past Ole at the moment.

I just love him and the part he could play in the next chapter in the history of this club.

The last few years will be lost in history, the books will talk about Fergie’s dominance, a down period and then the uprising with Ole.

I can’t imagine ever feeling this way about Poch being in charge. Just pray Ole gets the rub of the green over the next few games and manages to attract a couple of big names next season to cement himself in the role.

Martial extending his contract was the first positive step and the way Pogba and Rashford talk about him suggests it’s going to be good vibes ahead.

I love Scandinavian dialects. Always sound so chirpy.

One of the biggest mistakes people make when dating an amazing person, is that they will stick around regardless. Even when you're looking over at other people and wondering what it might like to be with them, you presume they'll stay because why not, right?

We have a vacant post, it appears Solskjaer has applied for that post seeing as he's met with Woody to discuss long term plans for the club, at this point, we don't even know if anyone else has applied for the position. Usually, what happens with major corporations and head hunting is the company will let it known that there is a vacant post and they would like you to consider an application, it's then down to you to make that application and show you want it. If we've approached Pochettino's people and he doesn't declare an interest to us, it's a non starter anyway.

Sensible post

Ole. And it's closer to the Spanish Olè than the "Olly" English speakers are saying.

Solskjær isn't as hard to pronounce as many Brits make it sound either.
Sol= like Sol (Campbell) but pronounce the 'o' more like how you do in boot.
Skjær = pretty close to the English word "share". No k-sound.

Thanks mate. Seems I need to get rid of the k-sound :)

I think you’re on to something.

This.

question to norwegians here: Is his name pronounced as Ole or Ola? I seem to remember Ingrid addressing him as Ola in the fulham pre-match press conference.

I think it's OOle Günnar Soolshare
"U" in Gunnar sounds like y in Finnish or Greek, ü in German or Hungarian and u"" in French or Norwegian.

And I have an other question in Norwegians. I translated some articles from Norwegian and noticed that his wife, friends, parents usually call him Ole Gunnar not just Ole. Is it common in Norway to use both first names?

I love everything about Ole and what he has done at the club, but for some odd reason I'd still prefer Poch. Don't get me wrong I'd be happy if Ole is named the manager permanently. It's not about wanting more results (as proof) or wanting him to go through some crucible to have to prove himself, I think for me Poch was always going to be my preferred choice. Regardless Ole will continue to do great and he will never allow the club to become the joke we did under Jose and Moyes.

But is it any more desirable than say, Chelsea, PSG, or City? That's what I'm trying to get at. Utd gives them the best of both worlds - patience to implement what they need/want; and a budget that can blow most clubs out of the water.

The generally long-term nature of the role at Utd means that it doesn't come up often, but when it does, it would interest everyone.

Er feck yeah hombre.

I never considered this scenario. You're absolutely correct that there's so many variables with what could happen in the coming months. We need to be cautious and analytical, perhaps wait and see if he delivers the decima for us.

If he wins the Champions League 7 times this season I reckon we should keep him on

To be honest, I'm not sold on Ole until he wins Mr.Olympia and Mr.Universe. Poch just won another trophy, the win games with injuries trophy. That's another one added to his impressive collection, which includes the beating Real Madrid in the group stages trophy and the 5 points behind 1st place trophy.

PSG likes to play. Ole should employ similar tactics against Arsenal. Let them have the ball and we should hit them on fast counter.

They like to play but aren't naive. Why should we let them have the ball? We should press them like hell.

you don't keep compact and you will concede sarri goals at home.

Is the away goal rule still in place this year? heard they are going to get rid of that.

No that would be mistake. We have to press them high like Lyon did last week and starve them of time with the ball.

You are assuming that Pochettino will still be at Spurs and not at Real or PSG, l love Ole but Pochettino is the best manager in the ELP that's not Guardiola.

We are not a pressing team. We get tired after 65-70 mins if we keep pressing high tempo game from go.

instead our strength is to move ball quickly into spaces and run with it like there is no tomorrow.

I am pretty sure Ole will make Arsenal out of PSG.

It´s not so straight forward as one might think. His family is settled in Kristiansund (a town close to Molde), and Ole being abroad comes with a cost for the family. It´s not said that he e.g. would chose Gent or Basel over Molde.
