Ridiculous how some people still want Herrera gone

It's worse than ridicolous. He has been one of the most consistent great performers in the team. We drew the one league match he did not play.

He is 29, some people forget that.

He won't improve, will only get worse by the years.

Yes. He is in the prime physical years of his career and is in fantastic form. A negative that must not be overlooked, we better release him asap

We don't need him to improve, he's been great for a while, he's actually been pretty great in his time here overall.
And 29 isn't old for a player, come on. Especially one who hasn't had many serious injuries or weight/diet/general fitness issues.

a top club don't blame the manager when the player they bought flop. They simply get rid of them, look at Barca, Yerry Mina, Paulinho , all those flop gone and being replaced. 140M Coutinho has been wank but nobody blame the manager, instead they just went and buy De Jong for next season. Chelsea got rid of Morata , replace him with Giroud and then Higuain. City bought Bravo, Pep doesn't like and then went to buy Ederson. Only in United , a manager get the blame when their purchase didn't hit the ground running, beside i am pretty sure both Lindelof and Bailly weren't his main choice, his main choice would be more experienced and expensive, both were young and have resale value which Woodward must love to. We finish second last season but instead backing Mourinho properly , Woodward bought farmer from Ukrainian league and 19 years old RB who hasn't play much competitive yet. I doubt any of them were Mourinho first choice in his short list.
Who was Jose first choice then in your opinion?

Not wanting to sign 29 year old is fine as it's a big investment, but wanting player to leave because he is 29 is just ridiculous.

Theres something seriously wrong with age 29-31 and the Cafe.

Maybe something to do with Sanchez and Rooney who looked shot when they are 29. I can understand not wanting to sign 29 year old players as it's a risk. They need time to adapt and if they don't then it's hard to offload but not giving contract to 29 year old player who is one of our best midfielder is just ridiculous. None of our midfielders comes close to Herrera's contribution in ball winning.

I can't believe there are people who want to sell Herrera. Crazy pills... He's in great form, won't be on massive wages, big personality on the pitch and we have a weak squad. There's enough deadwood to ship out to satisfy the muppet bloodlust this summer, don't worry.

Comments here ridiculous about Herrera. He has more interceptions than Kante and Fernandinho with much less playing time and is key to letting our attacking players express themselves. Some people are just too one dimensional in their views of soccer

Is Mourinho a winner or was he a winner? How come he has been sacked from Madrid,Chelsea and United in his last 3 jobs? If he´s such a winner they surely would have keept him right? What has happend in his last 3 clubs is that he get´s everybody against him by behaving like a Primadonna blaming everything and everyone but himself when things go wrong. How come Ole has been able to go on a 10 match unbeaten run with the same players if your estimate of Mourinho is right? Mourinho spent 400 million on players and could not get them going so behaving like a spoilt brat he demanded more money. Look at the stats of both Pogba and Rashford and how they have both proved Mourinho wrong. Ole is a proper leader and this turnaround has been remarkable while every game that goes by makes Mourinho look more and more like the arrogant, negative Primadonna that should have never been given the privilege of being the boss at Man Utd. His behaviour against Chelsea doctor Eve Carneiro tells a lot about the guy.
He finished 2nd last season with the same exact squad for your info but why he wasn't back up by the board to push just a bit more to achieve our ultimate target ? Because Ed thought the team already good enough to at least gets into top 4 which has always been their main target , we don't aim for the league with this squad , as simple as that , you all see it for yourself , when it wasn't our best 11, we slipped because their replacement wasn't good enough, and we can't play our best 11 every game , there will be moment when we have to rotate and we should maintain the quality by having a proper squad. Mourinho threw tantrum once he knew he won't be back up which it reflected on players and our performance under him. He used to win the league before losing the dressing room, we are the only club he failed to do so. Man with 27 major honour by age 55 across 4 leagues, any of young modern manager would be lucky to reach half of that.

I have no qualms with all those contract renewals but we must get a proper right back, a class center back, and someone to replace Lingard next season.

He didnt have extra lung like Ji Sung Park, nor technical like Mata and wasn't clinical like Shinji Kagawa. Get someone like Griezmann and we will fly.

I don't want to tempt fate (since I want Ole to get the job fulltime) but the fact that Martial has signed a five-year, Rashford is 'about to sign' and DeGea is in the pipeline all sounds to me like Ole is in the frame to stay. Why would these players commit long term when they hated the manager as recently as two months ago, and were keen to listen to offers in January?

It would be a particularly foolhardy for the board to look at all the positives that have occurred since Ole arrived and bin them all for another mercenary manager who'll stay 2-3 years and then force us into the same cycle again.

He's 29 ffs not 45.

The caf has a weird thing about age, genuinely must be linked to how easy it was to find wonderkids in FM or something. If they're the wrong side of 25 it's sell, sell, sell.

Ultimately their gripe was with Mourinho. Whether or not Ole stays, the board refused to sell Martial and got rid of the other guy, which shows they value this player. They might well have said we've learned our lesson, it could be Ole but if it isnt it will be another attacking manager who will value you.

Even if it's 25 you need to see if he has a resale value.
And similar bollocks.

What's the story behind this?
Mourinho wore a hoody and hid at the back during last years memorial, generally looked like he didn't want to be there/didn't care. The board were thoroughly pissed off with him, especially when you consider Bobby Charlton is on the board and was on that plane. And he wonders why he didn't get backed in the summer...

Wasn't he in the front row all the time? That's what I remember. He has the pissed off look always and looked grumpy even in the 2nd year at the club.
It was weird for him to wear hoodies and track pants though.

Yeah I think you're right. It was just disgraceful to be honest, he of all people should have known the weight of the ceremony. You do that and you're sending a clear message you don't want to be at the club in my opinion.

Smalling , Jones , Mata , Young, Herrera , all possibly renewed / already renewed and will be here next season and you still talk about how club has ambition to win ? We need a proper squad to compete for all cups but those players has passed their peak and definitely can be upgraded but club prefer to save money rather than replacing. Do you think top coach and proven winner like Pep and Mourinho would be happy with that level of ambition ? Pep for example went run to the board asking dozen of players to replace players that were a champion under Mancini/Pellegrini while we , the richest club in the world are happy with average , past-it players if City worked like us , Zabaleta , Kolarov , Joe Hart , Mangala would all still be there and they will not even competing for title now.

Bro, you need a 101 on how football clubs work. I think you are confusing it with video games

OGS will be a good appointment with the right people supporting him... whether it be the right coaching staff around him and/or the directors who deal with the on-field affairs.

Let's face it: what is the likelihood he just happens to turn out to be another Sir Alex figure? Probably the only successful individual next to Wenger who doubled as both first team head coach and director of football under the title of manager.... Extremely low probably so please don't try to fit OGS into that Sir Alex shaped hole like we did with Moyes, LVG and Jose.

If you quickly break down being a manager/head coach into three areas, you'd get something like

  • Man & Squad Management
  • Tactics & Style of Play
  • Transfers & Recruitment

OGS seems to have pretty decent man management skills so far as everyone looks much better than they did last year. Key players are renewing their contracts too so they like his style. He's an esteemed ex-player so squad members will automatically respect him and potential new recruits will want to play under someone who was a winner.

OGS' tactics are still too early to tell. Take the Spurs game. First half he had spot on. Second half when Spurs made some changes he found it harder and probably lucky he won... Again it's still too early since he'll probably be learning from mistakes along the way. Let's wait and see how he takes on Liverpool, City and PSG to see if he knows how to set up against them. It probably isn't helpful for him though that our squad isn't the best around so obviously you can set up perfectly but an opposing player's individual ability can run right over that.

OGS is yet to be tested in the transfers area and he can't really prove himself, since we'd have to hire him permanently. A lot of DoF figures seem to based on the recruitment side of football clubs so it's possible that OGS could end up not having to worry about this aspect too much. If he gives his player criteria to a hypothetical head of recruitment and has very good understanding with said head of recruitment then OGS' role in transfers and recruitment is alleviated and he can concentrate on tactics and man management. In an ideal world, OGS can say "Hey, who are the best fits out there for full-back?" HoR can then say "Here's a shortlist of ideal full-backs who'd fit this club mentally and would be able to fit into our style of play even beyond your tenure"
