The fan base is too soft. Way too accepting of mediocrity.

They are just as responsible for our position today.

There's a reason why the best clubs have the fans with the highest standards.

And why we are where are.

I think that Poch would have been our next manager once Jose was given the boot if it did not cost us so much to prise him from Spurs and it may even be the reason why Poch seemed to be not so happy with Spurs not too long after that even though they made it to the biggest final of the season.
I think the problem that Ed thinks he has is that he has seen Jose calling him out over not getting him the players he wants and then chucks his toys out of the pram and he does not want a repeat of that even though it does not seem to be in Poch's nature to do that but in Ole he has a manager who probably falls asleep each night feeling that every day feels like Christmas day to him as it is just his dream to be where he is and he will do nothing to rock the boat.

Unless you go and do an Arsenal and leave the stadium almost empty (which will never happen), the fan base has exactly 0.1% of the responsibility.

They dont hire managers and they dont sack’em. No board uses the amount of twitter trolls to gauge whether or not the manager should go.

To all Ole fans and those who find excuses and want to give him time; can things be worse than this? Or to say it better to avoid obvious answer about relegation; would any other manager( lets say guy who is manager in sunday league) be worse with this squad and have worse results?
I really doubt it. Maybe that manager would have lost against City and Chelsea but feck me, to lose points with this squad against every club in away games( and some home games) you must be special.

I honestly think that if "boys" this season were without manager, we would be in the same situation.

I can't believe it's a coincidence that we happen to have a nostalgic manager in Ole for our sentimental fan base?

The fans are clearly getting what they want. So they do have power over decisions to some extent.

If the match going fan base never worshipped managers & werent so sentimental & accepting of the collective lowering of standards here, maybe we wouldn't be in this position.

I can't think of another big club who's fanbase worships managers & mediocre players as much as we do. Can you?

It's almost like the fans bizarrely, revel in it.

33% win rate. 8th on the table with half the season done, on level with Newcastle. Just gave Watford their 2nd win of the season. Manchester fecking United.

All the while our biggest rival is winning the league by a mile and a half and looking like one of the favorites for the CL.

I don't know we have the most gullible and forgiving fans in the entire world, or OGS has the best PR team in the history of football.

I swear if we finish 16th just above the relegation zone, people will still ramble about "the process", "the plan", "United DNA".

I agree that Ole gets away with less critisism/objective assesment from the fans and Woodward because he’s a legend.

But that is not the same as saying the fan base has any bearings how long he will be manager. Except from, as I mentioned, that the stadium will be half-empty or something.

It definitely feels like that to me. The fans think they're special... yeah they're special all right.

The most deluded fan base in the world. Few years without SAF and I swear the whole club has changed places with Liverpool, on & off the pitch. It's utterly bizarre.

Oh i see what you're saying and i agree, unless there was mass protests every week, the fans don't have much say in when he goes I agree.

But I do think it would certainly shorten his stay if the fans weren't so accepting of such sentimental appointments.

The fans have to ask themselves if they really want to win, or carry on in fantasy land, winning nothing, singing kumbaya to Ole every week.

That is the disconnect we see among fans right now. The majority seem to bizarrely be happy with a losers mentality, not winning, as long as they're having a good time with Ole.

He's not good enough. His concept of football is never clear, players lack detailed tactical guidance. We should bring in a manager with a track record of winning trophies and tactically astute like Allegri.

"It's taken Liverpool a few years to get to that place and we need to keep on building, because that's where we want to get to"

I've found this quote earlier. Did Ole really said this? If true, wow he just really have become our second David Moyes

When your manager openly admits that the team at the bottom of the league were the better side and deserved to win, you know it's time for him to go. And Ole did exactly that after the Watford game.

I thought you might say Keegan- the guy was literally cracking up. Lippi just wanted out.
Jose's just trolling.

You are most likely right however the point is those managers all knew when to pack it in and stop since they had pride and respect for the club/countries they were managing and weren't entirely thinking about their wage packet.

No different to when a player knows when it's best to hang up their boots like G.Neville realised it was time to give someone else the opportunity to take his place when he lost his legs.

And I'd argue Ole is already cracking up he's just done his best to conceal it beneath his fake smiles. We've all seen the blood drain from his face and looking completely lost and terrified in the dugout

We've seen him on the verge of crying (check out the Bournemouth Post interview) and now he's telling us to expect more inconsistent results to lower the expectations even further

''We're such a young team that we're still going to see some inconsistency ''I never fly off if we're doing well and I don't really get too down when it's going against us because it's a fine line there and fine margins between success and not-so-great results in football.

Does that sound like someone who is in control, confident and capable of leading this club anywhere positive?

Or does this sound like a desperate man who is trying to buy himself time to see out his 3 year contract and is choosing to hide behind platitudes

6 mil per year, that's 18 million for selling us a nostalgic fairytale, while him and his mates learn on the job and find out how many different way they can utilize our players to play underdog countering attacking football.

We now have a considerable section of fans willing to write off this season entirely, just so Ole has no expectations or standards whatsoever. As long as we get to see his face in the dug out and we can say we have one of our own in charge, that's good enough.

I don't blame these lot of fans, because we had both Scholes and Neville(the official spokesmen of United) drilling it into their heads that we should manage our expectations and it will take at least 4-5 transfer windows before Ole can be expected to do anything and to write off this season.

Nobody said you cant question a coach so chill out. Theres a difference between critiquing and asking for a coach to be fired every 5 minutes.

I'm perfectly chilled fella, it was you losing your shit last time calling everyone cnuts and generally raging. I’m just politely pointing out that you’re now doing exactly what you went ape over.

Hes given up

Wow what a con artist.

What was the point of last season, the summer, pre season and the last two transfer windows?

Right now the only discussion that should be had at this point, is what colors are to be used for the plane banner.

And can someone make a thread on that shocking statement, because it's effectively saying to write off the season and don't expect anything good to come out of besides being safe in the knowledge that Ole and his mates are assessing the team whilst sitting on multi million pound contracts. This should be drawn to the attention of ALL matchgoing fans who pay their hard earned money to see United produce!

Dunno why you even wasting your time with him. Guy floats around in here, calling others plastic cnuts what not, there are only few posters in here who are on that full of shit level.

A very accurate assessment.
Football is essentially about people.
And the recruitment of people nowadays is a highly complex process.
Ditto, I think people in every business are the most important asset particularly if you are building something from scratch. Without Steve Jobs and their engineers Apple wouldn't have reached the heights that they did. As Manchester United, after Fergie, we had money and a name but not the right people and look where we find ourselves in.

We'll win the next 4 and all the haters will crawl back into their little hole.

Then we'll drop points at Norwich and go on a losing run. And they'll crawl back out,

So goes the cycle.

Done, this statment worries me, where is the plan?

I mean, he's not wrong. This team have failed under multiple managers. There's a point where you have to accept that it doesn't matter who's in charge, they're all playing for their futures regardless of what happens to Solskjaer. Bringing another manager in would allow them to hide for another season while he gives them 'the chance to prove themselves' because Woodward isn't going to force the sale of any players under a manager.

The message should be, top 4 and most of you get to stay, no top 4 and half of you go to the lowest bidder. Except you Lingard, you're gone regardless.

The seasons over lad. You can't drop points to Everton and Watford and expect to finish in the top 4. The only thing worth playing for now in the league is not getting relegated, which we won't. Time to try and get some players in over January and plan for the summer now.

I've stood by him but some of his quotes from today's presser are delusional. Saying it took Liverpool a few years to get to the level that they currently are... We are literally worse than last season, Ole.

After Jose and LVG I am done with looking at a manager's trophy cabinet. We have to look at his tactical philosophy and how it matches up to modern day greats like Guardiola and Klopp, whether he has the capacity to transform that concept onto the pitch successfully and his flexibility when the initial plan is countered.

Things like recruitment, man management and stuff he should get help from the Sporting Director. For example, look at Rodgers who has proved that when you give him a good squad he can get them playing great football and achieving results. Trophies will come naturally when the team has been built and it has gelled.

The only thing is that the club will sink further and further into mediocrity. The longer you continue down a doomed path the harder it is rebuild from there. So let's celebrate mediocrity and continue with this cycle as long as one of our own is the one contributing to our ruin.

Been said enough times, if I take the emotion out of it, I'm struggling to think why I believe Ole can turn it around when there is absolutely nothing he's done previously to anchor that to. Whilst other managers have failed here, it wasn't cause they hadn't proven to be successful at the highest level.

We still have everything to play for (except the title) with a very young and inconsistent team that has been ravaged by injuries and lacks any semblance of depth.

I don't care if Ole stays or goes, but the doom and gloom is depressing, when in reality - silverware is a very real possibility.

Let's face it, if that was Moyes, this place would be on fire. I get that he's a fan favourite and I fecking loved him as a player myself but at the end of the day, I want us progressing again. This just sounds like it's coming from the delusional one.

Well the manager just wrote off the season and thinks he will use it to assess who is good enough for next season. Imagine having the luxury of 19 PL games to pick who stays and who goes whilst clubs like Bayern sacked an underperforming manager barely 10 games into the season. Standards have been lowered to justify continued looting of the club and Ole is the perfect flak catcher to cover heist with his smile while deluded fans sing his praises.

A bit extreme, but ok. I highly doubt that it's going to become a sort of extended pre-season as some people seem to think.

He probably shouldn't have said it, or worded it better regardless.

Yeah probably not.
Think he means we’re not looking for points at any cost.
On the lines of “we are not going to put Lukaku and Fellaini up top and scrape a few extra points” (if so, then I accept what he says). Thank god we shipped those two - we might have a couple more wins if they were still here but I couldn’t care less.

Hadn't thought of it like that, but I definitely agree.

Have to disagree. Im sick of plastics because they dont allow the rest of us wiggle room to criticise because of their impatient bullshit
