I think there is a good chance Williams will replace Young in the pecking order, sooner or later.

People were saying similar things about Matic not long ago, and he's disappeared. Lingard too.
I do recall reading some Reddit ITK talking about how the staff wanted to let these youngsters establish themselves as better options than the older underperformers over a few months. Transitioning the playing time instead of a just suddenly throwing them all in at once. But the point being the coaches were both unimpressed by the incumbents and excited with the youth.

I'm convinced there's a bunch of opposition fans pretending to be United fans in this thread.

The in credible disrespect shown to our manager by some posters in this thread wouldn't be tolerated on other forums. Even worse, he' was one of our best and most decorated players.

I'd be interested to see how many of you would go to Old Trafford and shout out some of the things you are happy to write on here.

Ought to hang your heads in shame some of you.

Agreed. The lack of respect is something I’ve written about before but it’s still going on.

I'd go for
  • Appreciate the focus on the younger players but
  • The management of the actual team has been crap
I mean, Manchester United are 9 points off 4th playing dreadful football most of the season and he's getting a positive assessment in 8/9 categories. Standards are low these a days.

Basically, Solskjaer gets 10/10 for intention, and a lot less for execution.

I was looking for a "transfers" topic but I didn't find it, I guess it matches with this one to talk about Ole's future signings.
Feel free to answer and debate.

To keep heading where we are and reinforce/rebuild our team in the next 3-4 transfers windows, Solskjaer will have to look at players who fits his vision and his tactics. With time, we are clearly on the verge of seing something slowly building around attacking football. If we buy the right additions to the team, we'll progress sooner than we actually think. To fill the gaps I think we need to make the next positions our priorities : AM, DM, RW and ST. When we'll have players at these positions, we'll need to look at : a back up CB, LB depends on Shaw/Williams and a box-to-box profile depends on Pogba departure or not.
I'll put a little shortlist of mine, some of them are affordable/realistic, some of them could be hard to get depends on our qualification for Champions League or not, like I said, feel free to add your opinion about it I'm not closed.

AM : James Maddison, Kai Havertz
DM : Wilfred Ndidi
RW : Jadon Sancho, Hakim Ziyech, Wilfred Zaha
ST : Erling Braut Håland
LB : Ben Chilwell
CM : Emre Can, Jack Grealish, John McGinn,

To complete this exhaustive list, I let some of the Academy players I want to see regularly on the team sheet or/and loaned to come back to the club if it's a success. Greenwood, Garner, Gomes, Levitt, Williams, Tuanzebe, Laird, Henderson. Question mark on Chong and TFM, not sure about them. About the youngest and early prospects, we'll see how they do with the reserve : Kovar, Tanner, Puigmal, Galbraith, Mellor, Mengi, Devine, Mejbri, Elanga.

If Solskjaer manages to get the right signings at the right spots, I think we'll come good and have a strong side to challenge again for the very first places of Premier League and get back to winning days, maybe some trophies on the road.

Made a few amendments.

His big challenge is how to incorporate Pogba into a team which is now beginning to find form and belief due to its togetherness and work ethic. If he comes back and United play a listless lethargic match he’s going to have some very tricky decisions to make.
Challenge? He should count Pogba's return as a blessing. The same player that pretty much gave him the job and the number 10 role he played to devastating effects in December- Febuary is already waiting for him. The chance to drop the nonscoring, non assisting number 10s like Andreas and Lingard for good and perhaps rescue what might be left of the season is no challenge.

Lately (and it's important to underline - only lately) Ole looks to have changed his approach to team selection.

Lately, as in since the start of the season? After he has had the opportunity to condition them to play the way he wants and assess the squad with that perspective? Weird, right? The reason he persisted with the Matics and the Youngs last season was simple: They were first teamers drilled in the way Mourinho wanted to play. The reason Young still plays is because he can play both right and left back, and until the rise of Williams there were no other alternatives in the squad to AWB and Shaw with Dalot out injured.

Match was decent after our third goal but until Brighton scored their goal it wasn't much. Apart from one lucky goal and a scrappy one, we didn't create much.

I'm not saying it was a poor game but we need a run of games like yesterday, it cannot be stop and start.

Thought we played quite well, but each to their own. Hopefully a run of games get Pogba back and get a charge on the go, especially over December and Xmas a lot of points will be dropped, players back consistent run bit of momentum, season aint done and dusted just yet.

Quite a bit there that's going to vary from fan to fan

Good signings – debatable. Sheffield and Leicester have let in fewer goals than us and are further ahead in the table. The latter, we paid 80 million to take their 'best' defender near the deadline day.

Improvement in underperforming players – not really. Young is terrible. Lingard is terrible. Matic is terrible. Lindelof looks worse than he did last season. Shaw is injured again. Pogba looked terrible being played in the wrong position. De Gea has had quite a few howlers.

Wants to play attacking football – Erm...wants? So did Jose and LVG.

Has shipped out a lot of the deadwood everyone has been complaining about for years – Sanchez is still on our books. Smalling as well. Mata, Rojo, Matic, Young, Jones, Bailly all of whom I've heard called deadwood are still here. Who left? Lukaku and Herrera, neither of whom was deadwood.

Exciting focus on youth – agree, yes.

Loves the club and knows it inside out – irrelevant.

A sense of direction – I mean, he knows where the stretford end is. But for the club? I don't think we've seen enough tangibles.

In contention for the top 4 – actually disagree with your no here. Still time to see where this heads.

How are the signing he made debatable? AWB and James have been our two outstanding performers this year and both are really young. AWB for example had 6/6 successful tackles, most of anyone vs Brigton and its hardly mentioned because its seen as a standard performance from him. James has 3 goals and 3 assist and could have a couple more had our other players been more clinical. Maguire was bloody expensive, but we have lacked a leader in the back for years now and he fits the bill perfectly

Young, Mata and Matic are ancient, they wont be getting any better unless Ole invents some sort of age reversal potion. Lindgaard being terrible and Shaw being permanently injured is nothing new either and no amount of coaching is going to change that.

Hes much less pragmatic than Jose (everyone is) and his style is completely different than LvG. No doubt LvG would have us play better attacking football, but he hamstrung himself by being way to rigid and buying and playing players who were clearly a bad fit for his system

Inter apparently want to get Sanchez permanently (https://www.teamtalk.com/news/inter-milan-chief-makes-stance-clear-on-alexis-sanchez-future). Lukaku had to go because he was a twat and Herrera leaving was out of his hands. He still got rid of Darmian, Fellaini and Valencia and i am sure more deadwood will follow once we get some new players in. Considering how ridiculously thin our squad is, he could not realistically ship out 10 players at once

And him loving the club isn't irrelevant. Both Jose and LvG had/has massive egos and its pretty clear that affected how they managed the club. Both of them wanted instant success, and they tried achieving that by purchasing old players and obvious mercenaries when it was quite clear the club was in dire need of a proper rebuild. Ultimately, both of them left the squad in a worse state than when they arrived, and we are still paying that price today

The Caf is same as the team at the moment blows hot and cold from one week to the other.

One loss all we see is Ole out, can't manage - ole out

One win and we see stuff about building for the future.

The lies that Ole has told, especially regarding Pogba sicken me. Says he wants to build the team around him and that he's under construction for the captaincy, only to play him out of position and give the armband to Ashley Young. All while he sacrificed Champions League football

If Sunday turns out not be another false dawn and he gets us to play like this week in week out I might change my mind about him

Exactly. I can't sum it better than this. Unlike the cnut before him, I've no doubt that Ole wants best for the club and has the right sort of idea on how the club should be, whether he has the skills to actually implement is where it gets tricky.

If ironical, please ignore this response:

You are actually sickened by your empathy with Paul Pogba? It disgusts you that a guy like Paul Pogba, having sacrificed so much for this club, has been told by this Solskjær dude to play in a midfield two like he did for Deschamps and several times under Mourinho? After all his toil and taking responsibility, he has been told he is a candidate for captaincy and the team will be built around him even if he rather wants to play for Real Madrid, and this makes your stomach turn at the injustice? Mino, are you sure it’s not just the turkey’n’tuna double mayo sandwich you had for late night snack at that questionable food truck?

Is there any way to make Ole a better manager more quickly than giving him 3 seasons? Can he also fly out to Dubai and perhaps do a coaching retreat of some sort?

Did you not read what I wrote. Young plays even when he shouldn’t what makes you think things are going to change because you want it to.
What? Young has only played because Shaw was injured. Now Williams seems to be in the picture that will only push Young even further down.

Granted he may play in the cups with the younger players, but there's nothing wrong with that.

Well he’s back against Sheffield. You confident he’s going to be on that bench?

Shaw might be back but he isn't going to be fit to start for at least 2/3 games.

Sheffield Utd away is a hard game, I wouldn't be surprised if Young starts.

Pretty fair

This is my view I think. Heart is in the right place, the basic idea is good but I don't feel he has the talent to carry it through to completion. He's a placeholder in my eyes, so if he's finishing further down the table at each attempt (6th last year, ? this year) he needs to be moved on.

So you’re counting our final finish last year? You are aware where we were when he took over? I mean, count the terrible performances after PSG, but to count the position isn’t fair, imo. I feel the same about his talent level, but I’m happy to be proven wrong. Only McTominay seems to have clearly stepped up a level, so it might just be natural progression.

Young shouldn't even be lacing boots, let alone starting games! Williams MUST start at LB for the foreseeable, him and Shaw need to battle it out now. Enrol Young into his retirement home already!

https://redd.it/dui5m8 Molde won their League again, with basically the team that Ole built. The guy knows how to build successful teams, repeatedly.

They are one of the richest and strongest sides in that league if I'm not mistaken. I wouldn't use them as a barometer. He fluffed up Cardiff and still has a long way to go here, so let's just reserve judgement.

I understand that this is what most fans want, I would rather have Williams starting getting experience but do we really expect him to start?

Martial, Rashford and McTominay have all improved under Ole. Rashford is on 12 goals atm already, so he'll definitely be having his highest scoring season to date, will certainly reach 20 goals!

Williams bossed Reece James and CHO at Stamford Bridge! and Brighton was light work for him too; looked so comfortable on the pitch and loves a good scrap too. It's a no brainer to start him whilst Shaw is still returning!

Agreed, I think he will also give shaw a run for his money too.

I put emphasis on the world ‘clearly’ because we haven’t seen anything new from either Martial or Rashford. They’re a year older, but not consistent enough so far, imo. What I will give Ole credit for is playing them in the position they’re obviously most suited to, which can’t be said for LVG or Mou.

SHaw is the most frustrating player we have on our side. Surely he eneds to be phased out and I won't mind Williams making the LB position his own.

Couple of things i see new with Rashford. He is using his left foot more. Solskjær has been encouraging him to do this and he also talked about this on the Post Partizan match huddle. Rashford's decision making has come leaps and bounds and looking little better now. Moves are alteast getting to the final third unlike before where it gets spoilt right in the build up when Rashford tries to run with the the ball from box to box. I agree with your point Ole has made the right choice in making Martial play as a striker.

I think the phasing out period has begun, one more injury and I think hes career at Utd is done.

He tends to pick up "knocks" that keep him out for months, it is not good enough.

We need reliable players in each position.
