I have faith in Ole, and I believe McKenna is a gem. I just hope Ole gets the respect he deserves but I do worry when a figure like Mourinho is struggling with getting disiplin from the players, there is a problem. Mourinho said he had to babysit certain players which in a professional environment becomes a problem if there is a culture of it, and not only specific instances once in a while.

There is a legit chance that some of the players will be undermining the manager and not give it a real go if put to the test. You can smell the weakness and weird focus in this group of players sadly. When Ole came in they all played like it was a vacation, like an escape from reality that gave them a lift but now it seems the mood is back to what it was under Mourinho. If Ole tries to just smile and make everyone happy they might look at him like a joke, which is the sad part because he isn't unless he is made to be one. Making everyone feel good is only one aspect but if people patronise or similar in response, what do you do? If Ole can command the respect of the players and colleagues and get McKenna on board, as well as making good signings then it should be a very good combo for exiting football with the right United-brand. If not I guess he will get the blame and we'll try out Giggs or Carrick next up.

He was a great manager who dragged Chelsea down, and let's not pretend we didn't revel in it. He started to do the same at Utd and that had nothing to do with the board, owners or the tea lady.

Ole will be backed but to condemn him as a failure even before he's really begun is absurd
Mourinho brought us to second, something that seems like a far off achievement for us now. If there is any dragging he has dragged us up.
You seem so sure Ole will be backed. Time will tell if that is true. Nobody here is condemning him of anything yet. I'm only laying out the expectations for next season for him.

Oh come on. Same shit has happened at every club he’s managed. No way is that a coincidence. And loads of other managers cope with the board letting them down without going into a death spiral the way things turn out under Mourinho. Pocchetino at Spurs being the most obvious (and much more extreme) example. He would give his eye teeth to be “not backed” with as much money as Mourinho had to spend on his squad.

Utter nonsense. He bought Pogba,Fred,Lindelhof,Mkhitarian and Bailly. We won two trophies in his first season with those players, came second playing garbage football in his second season, and he made us worse playing a brand of football that was an embarrassment when you consider the squads of teams that beat us: Sevilla and other humiliating defeats which had nothing to do with the board.

Yep. So with these great players Ole should at least finish second which Mourinho managed to achieve despite being toxic. If no trophies and a title challenge comes next season we will know who has been found wanting in standards below even a toxic dinosaur manager.

He might have been triggered by the boards lack of backing but Jose has to take the blame for the toxicity no one else. He could have just aimed it at the board but threw a tantrum on the players because he didn't think it was his fault.

If he was backed i do think things probably would have turned out very differently though.

Yes, if things turn toxic next season I hope you will be fair and appropriate the blame to Ole and no one else as well.

That has to be the best explanation about jose being jose. its all other peoples fault.

You're either a troll or just a massive jose fan.

Well done, you're that women (who looks like a skeleton) on trumps side, alternative facts.

Wanting the best for our club is trolling? Accepting top 4 and becoming Arsenal is being a good fan?

Wow! delusional much.

In case you haven't noticed, our older players are another year older and nearer retirement whilst the younger players haven't become any more consistent. Also the competing teams have got better whilst we've stood still/gone backwards.

The next season or two is going to require patience and realism from our fans, not the complete bollocks highlighted above. It's this complete lack of any sort of realistic target from fans that will lead to over-reactions from fans.

Mourinho must have been a miracle worker to lead these bunch of old fogeys to second then.

 Huge shoes to fill

You are right, they are tiny shoes. So if Ole can't even match up with a title challenges to fill the tiny shoes, that will be a failure of embarrassing proportions.

You've made a right bollix of your response to me in that post, so let's just focus on your (unfair) obsession with Ole needing to mount a "title challenge" despite not signing anyone.

One point behind league leaders, with a game in hand.

How is that not a title challenge?!?

We are talking about next season dear, just laying out the expectations coming ahead. Ole has been appointed, no point casting judgement now. Next season will tell us whether we did it right.

And why are you playing alternate league tables? Have we descended to RAWK level?

That is literally the league table as it stands since Ole took over.

Unless you think he should also be accountable for the absolute shit served up by Mourinho?

Can someone update the “where will Mourinho go next” thread to let everyone know he’s posting on RedCafe under the name Christie

He will have too many issues to handle. Clear out the squad, buy new, good players, get our fitness level up, improve our general play, improve our attacking play, increase confidence, change attitude.... Let's see what he can do after the summer
Which is why we need a Director of Football

Edit: I have major doubts about the club’s future, Ole included. But some of the stuff posted on here is completely mental.

We will be fine under Ole given he can make 2-3 signings this summer window, and one in Jan...we aren't going to win the league, but we'll be much closer and not fighting it out till the end for 4th.

The thing he must do is either get Rashford/Lukaku to turn in to lethal goal scorers, or buy one. Too many points dropped this season due to shit finishing...I'd rate it a bigger concern than our goals conceded

Slaven Bilic spoke sense regarding Ole on BTsport.
I can’t post links because of forum rules so if anyone would be kind enough to find and post it.

A draw for Zidane against Leganes after losing to Valencia last week. We should have waited until the end of the season to get someone like him.

Terrible, but I'm willing to let him at least have a season to see how he does. Remember SAF was rubbish at the start

Ferguson was not rubbish at the start. It takes years to build a team. Indeed with the core of the side he inherited he came second in 1987-88. Because of the restructuring of the club from top to bottom which Ferguson instigated he was putting down the foundations upon which 23 years of success was built upon.

Give the man a chance...

They won't. I remember saying this back before Jose went. I said if Jose got fired they'd turn on the new guy at the first sign of a few iffy results.

Half of them say the players we have are not even top 6 quality but still expect United to win every game 3-0 playing great football from minute 1.

It's some kind of odd mental affliction I think. Related to anxiety or something. They find watching United be anything other than the best team so utterly unbearable it brings on panic attacks and stress. If we aren't 4-0 up after 20 minutes they lose their fecking minds.

It's strange because we were told by the Paul Inces of life that when a new manager is hired then he automatically wins for the next three months, just by clapping and smiling a bit.

Yeah, assuming we don't win against Barca (which is, let's be honest, very likely) the remaining weeks of this season will have feck all high points and a bunch of very low ones.

A real pity that Ole's first half season in charge is inevitably going to end with a load of bad memories.
None of which he will be in any way responsible for.

Sorry to say, but Ole is coming across as a blagger in his pressers these days. Giving him the job before the end of the season was a really bad move...

I wont pretend I understand this comment. But I absolutely love it!
Au contraire mon ami, you do understand; You understand it more than you can imagine. As if it were Cantona's flying foot into the face of a deranged melon at Selhurst Park.

People of redcafe we must abandon all pretense at decent debate and cease to relent in our jerkism until our squad resembles the greasy palms of a teenager/neet addicted to FIFA Ultimate packs and hashtag bantz. Embrace the future.

Agreed on all counts.

The last English team to eliminate Barca in the CL was managed by someone initially appointed as a caretaker and then confirmed as permanent. Juan Mata and Alexis Sanchez played in that game but on different sides. The first leg was a 1-0 result and in the second leg at the Nou Camp, the English team scored 2 away goals.

One manager arrived last year and has had time to work with the squad that finished 2nd last season. The other arrived last month and took over a team that got eliminated by Ajax ffs. How on earth can you compare the two?

Is this serious?

You're trying to argue Ole walked into a better situation than Zidane has?

Have you forgotten the state we were in by the time Mourinho was sacked?

No white text?

How is a Liverpool fan telling us what SAF was and was not? Btw it was 27 years not 23! Up until 1990 he was under severe pressure, plenty fans holding 'Excuses are up, Fergie Out" signs. Took 7 years for him to really get it together and win United their first PL! Then after that, pure relentlessness!

And look how shite our squad is compared to Madrid, in that easy ass league!. Their messiah isn't coping too well is he!?

What do you expect him to do? Act like Jose? frown and bitch all day! disrespect the club, call his players shite! Talk about how many times they've been knocked out of the CL? Is that what you want for him not to be a "blagger". Absolute nonsense!

It's the side effect of Fergie's decades of success. It was always bound to happen after the great man left. Only thing one should hope for now is that it doesn't drag on for another decade. We need to calm down, be realistic about where we are now and patiently re-build. This requires giving our manager time and the opportunity to build rather than calling for his head at any sign of stumbling.

A dicking at the Nou Camp and handing either City or Liverpool the league is not something I look forward to tbh.

Not his fault though

Cmon mate, we are in a position where we can beat some of our nearest rivals to get top 4, something most of ous thought unthinkable when Mourinho was sacked. We got through PSG and are now in a position where it is not outside the realms of possibility that we snatch a win at Nou Camp to knock out Barcelona. Let's try to hope for some excitement instead of being doom mongers on here.

Nah, I can't register any excitement.
None of those players do anything for me, with the exception of Pogba but, his arsey attitude and his inconsistency boils my piss. Lingard being today's version of Danny fecking Wallace, Phil Jones just waiting to sit on the detonator, Young punting balls in the air, Martial feeling a slight breeze and deciding he's not arsed tonight, Ole still talking about fecking 1999...

Meanwhile, Custard teeth across the way, fist pumping the Kop, with the League trophy between his teeth...

The way Sanchez plays you'd still think he was playing for the opposing side.

Doom, gloom...

Well, yeah...

Hardly going to be crowing "20 times" now am I? :D

There's light and day between crowing "20 times" and slamming Ole for bringing up some good memories ahead of the biggest game we've played in years and acting like Pool are already champions
