It's not about luck, it's being naive.
Luck is definitely a bit involved.

When did Salah and mane both get injured at the same time? sterling and de Bruyne? Lacazette and aubameyang? it just doesn’t really happen.

At the same time? Yes I’d say it’s quite rare. it’s not like they’re long term injuries either which makes it even sillier.
Really? I don’t think it’s that unlikely, especially with our luck.

When you have heavy emphasis on running in pre season and even evidence of your football creating injuries last season, you should expect both Rashford and Martial to pick up muscle injuries.

Liverpool press just as much as we do? Being this early in the season can’t even be put down to fatigue either. It just happens.

A lot of people were concerned about Martial and Rashford being injured at the same time this summer.

The fact that our 2nd choice CF is our starting LW makes the probability more likely.

This is naive thinking as well. Just because another team presses does not mean we are working on it in the same way. Martial and Shaw both pick up muscle injuries. Rashford then has to play consecutive games until his groin goes.

I predicted this would happen and it has. It's not about luck.

We didn't get rid of him or his wages. He's still our player, on our wage bill. Even if you subtract the 175,000GBP that Inter are paying per week, Alexis is still the 4th highest paid player on our wage bill.
For this season, we got rid of him. And his revised wages mean we got less moaning in the dressing room.

I’d say his only mistake was playing rashford again on Thursday. Rashford is naive himself thinking he can play and work as hard as he does regularly and not get a rest.

It’s easy to say it’s a mistake in hindsight but in another timeline we could be without any injuries and flying.

both lukaku and Sanchez clearly wanted to leave so it was better to get rid - ideally we should have got 1 more in to ease the burden.

How is it Rashford's fault that Ole picks him and asks for high intensity?

We've only played 6-7 games so far with an international break inbetween ffs. First 4-5 games there was a week between the games. There's lots of other things to blame him for but playing Rashford, Martial and Shaw once a week for the first month of the season isn't one of them. State of this fecking place...

The fitness levels isn't good though, is it? Rashford looked absolutely destroyed at kickoff against West Ham. Something ain't right.

Sanchez out was the right decision. He provided nothing except a drain on our wage bill. No cover for him though is turning out to be a mistake as the young guns haven’t stepped up as maybe they were expected to.
Can’t judge this decision in a silo though.

Sanchez leaving United during the course of the summer & being replaced would be a fine bit of business; letting him leave after the window shut here & applying undue pressure to talented youth products was malpractice.

If OgS sanctioned the move, he should leave. If he didn’t & the board don’t respect him enough, going about making decisions above his head; he should leave.

I was for giving OgS time but he’s done nothing, via press conferences or team choices to make me believe he will one day rival the best managers.

He’s currently derailing a number of youngsters careers playing them in games they aren’t ready for alongside players with no leadership mentality - he’s doing exactly the opposite of his supposed ethos.

The two players we let go who weren’t replaced were Ander and Lukaku. Sanchez was replaced - Daniel James.

Maybe he’s not been sleeping well with anxiety? Probably worried about his form and public opinion. Who knows. Stress does weird things to people.

Pre season and training sessions can take their toll.

Oh come on.

We’re currently down in 11th place with a tough set of fixtures coming up, could get out of control this in the coming weeks.

Remember in 17/18 when we were moaning about finishing 2nd and 20 points behind City. Already 13 behind Liverpool now. Ah... what bad memories.

Then have to face December with a thin squad.
Ole is the perfect manager for this nightmare of a season. It was all predictable the squad was too thin and not good enough but since he's never gonna do a Mourinho and publicly complain, he's the ideal puppet for the owners

It's sad but, this season will be utter torture. Doesn't help that we have to slug through the Europa League as well.

I'm mentally preparing for finish around the 10th place. We just don't have enough goals in the team to hope for more. Martial and Rashford, even if they were fit all the time, aren't really that reliable for me.

Yeah, I think it's best if we place our expectations low.

Which will make next summers transfer window rather fraught.

Very sensible post.

James fills a similar role to Sanchez (who was worse than useless in any case and playing any one of the kids is better than keeping him).

Lukaku, whilst generally below the standard we need, would be in the team at the moment and would have scored some of the chances we missed over the last few games.

Shame we didn’t get Mandzukic for a season, or another canny old head. I expect Ole wanted that but prefers not to bitch and moan about it in public (which would do no good at all).

This cracks me up. It’s a miracle we have any fit players. With hindsight it was better when we ran least in the league and blew up after half time every match.

You forgot Fellaini

Its ironic since we could use him so much at this moment given the absolute shite football Ole has served up and apparently Fellaini was part of the reason we couldnt play attractive football. So much for that myth.

Ole needs a good CM who can play with Pogba. We have had a series of journeymen like Herrera, Fellini, Matic, McTominay, Fred, Lingard, Mata play with him and he is frustrated because he wants world class players to play with.

Ravel Morrison is playing for a PL club but his peak is far, far better than their standard (Josh King just said he would have been right below Messi/Ronaldo had he not behaved badly). His behavioral issues are better now.

Rather than getting more journeymen like Eriksen (I don’t rate him at the level of Pogba, Keane and Scholes who are MUQ CMs) in why doesn’t Ole not bit Ravel in the winter? He still has a few years that he can shine and an attacking lineup of:-

Martial Rashford/Greenwood Sancho Gomes/Ravel Pogba

would walk the league in terms of talent, would love playing with one another (talent thrives when playing with talent) and unite the fans for the next few years.
They may lose but it is better than watching the current inheritors of the dross of the last 10 years (yes, despite SAF’s genius we stopped being world class when the Glazers came and Cristiano left).

How am I meant to debate with this mentality.

I actually wrote a rebuttal but I can’t discuss that point with any respect so I’m going to politely leave it here. More than happy to disagree with that one.

Hello Ravel i thought you were an Arsenal fan

Sanchez, for Arsenal, was best played off the left wing, but can feasibly play anywhere along the forward line: left wing, false 9, right wing. These are all positions James played when at Swansea. He has already proven himself a far more effective player here in the short time than Sanchez did over his stint. Sanchez was effectively replaced. You would have hoped Sanchez was replaced with a name that carries as much weight as his, but the fact of the matter is he was terrible for us. But instead we brought in someone young and rapid. We haven’t been crying out for Sanchez in the last few games. But Herrera and Lukaku would have still been incredibly useful. Sanchez has been effectively replaced.

I can’t debate you with any respect because you seem so sure of your own opinion, so instead of arguing your point you’ve just diminished mine as somewhat beneath you.

Just trying to bring Utd back to where it belongs. Any other would team would absolutely shit themselves as soon as they saw that lineup. Is the way it should be.

If we don't win the match vs Arsenal it would mean we are already out of the Top4 race!

We need those 11 points, period, to be up there with Leicester, Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal.

Ole was the only player to join the fans in protesting them and has advocated ownership issues in Norway. He is not a puppet and you're a disrespectful cnut to call him one

And yet, he had absolutely no hesitation in coming to work for the owners he thought were so vile he protested against them as a player.

Allow that to sink in.

What could have changed?

Do the words 'personal gain' come into your mind? Offer a dream job? Erasing personal grudges for the chance to manage a big club that will probably never, ever come again?

Someone mentioned in here recently that Ole isn't fully well-regarded back home, due to some dodgy dealings with a super-agent of sorts. Perhaps this squeaky clean United Legend is just as easily bent behind the scenes as most other football managers?

I mean, he allowed the board/Woodward to gut his attack/midfield over a period of a few months without a single reinforcement and said he was happy as Larry. Bit weird, isn't it? For someone who supposedly disapproved of this same board, as a player.

Wake up. He's a Sockpuppet.

I don’t fancy getting into a back & forth in regards to Dan James [a player I rate highly].

We can’t definitively say if OgS did or didn’t sign James as a direct replacement for Sanchez so the discussion would erode into one where I would look like I’m criticising a young player I rate but don’t yet think should be a first choice player for the club & would be concerned if he was signed as such.

In your opinion James [a young talent] is an adequate replacement for Alexis [a woefully underperforming ‘star’], I’m sorry but I can’t debate that with the respect [I believe is missing in droves from this forum] a true debate deserves because I can’t comprehend it.
