Always back the manager, always. Pep, Poch, and Klopp have been backed by their respective boards and look what they've achieved (Pep won nothing his first year but had the club backing because they knew he would, Poch has won nothing but been allowed to develop Spurs, Klopp has won nothing in his entire tenure at 'Pool but has always been backed).

We gave Moyes a 5 year contract and sacked him within one, LVG won the FA Cup and was sacked the next day, Jose won us the League Cup, Europa League, got us 2nd in the Prem with a clearly lacksadaisical squad, was given a new 3 year contract then not backed in the transfer window and sacked within a year of his new contract.

Just shows you the difference that having faith in a manager and giving them time gets you. The last time Utd bothered to show faith in a manager he went on to become our, and English footballs, most successful manager ever.

32 points off top (19 after Liverpool loss and Jose sacking)and since PSG played 12
W2 D2 L8 F8 A22.

The collapse has been an absolute shambles and Ole needs as much blame as the players. 29 games in charge he has to have his mark on the team by now, I don’t see what he does differently in the summer. He needs a hell of a lot of better players if he wants to still be in the job this time next year.

He may or may not be the right person long term, but I dunno, I just have a feeling that keeping him for this summer and into next season will help us more long term compared to sacking him. Regardless of manager in charge, we have a lot that we need to do. The following either all have to leave, or probably will leave in the next 2 summers (obviously not all this summer):
  1. Darmian
  2. Rojo
  3. Valencia
  4. Young
  5. Bailly
  6. Jones
  7. Matic
  8. Herrera
  9. Pogba?
  10. Fred?
  11. Pereira?
  12. Mata
  13. Sanchez
  14. Lukaku
Regardless of who we have in charge, it's difficult to envisage a scenario where at least 10 of those are still here past summer 2020. We need to sign a handful of players this summer for sure, but we also have a handful of young players who I hope get regular games. Greenwood and Tuanzebe for sure, but also Chong and Gomes can play a role in the squad more than some of those senior players. Greenwood can potentially be a starter next year, Tuanzebe can easily replace any role that Jones/Bailly/Rojo had, Gomes can replace Mata's role, and Chong can replace Sanchez's role. McTominay can also pretty much take the role that Matic should have had this season as a squad player in midfield.

Anyway, yes, Ole might not be the one to take us forward. But I don't think sacking him before next season will really do all that much. I don't think Pochettino will leave Spurs for United anyway, but the main thing is that we need to strengthen. Maybe a positive of having Ole is that we need to fix our structure altogether and invest properly to build a proper team, to make it easier to handle managerial transitions and whatever else, to make sure we don't fully start over every managerial change. We need a leaner squad, a more youthful squad, and a more balanced squad. I'm perfectly fine with keeping Ole next season even if he isn't the right manager, and then work on getting the right appointment in that suits what we want to do as a club.

The argument that he hasn't had enough time to prepare the team from pre-season, bring in his own players and mold (e) the team he wants is a decent one.

So then you look at what he's done at his previous clubs, and there's very little there to suggest he's the man for the task. If anything, it's the opposite.

Putting that aside, is he showing signs of imposing a new playing style, how has his in-game management been?

People keep bringing up "Pep/Klopp/Pochettino would struggle with this lot", well yeah, most likely, but they've done a whole lot more in their careers to indicate that patience and clever investment would yield rewards. OGS? It's a total shot in the dark with huge warning signs all over it.

Reactions: nimic
The sole justification for his appointment was the reaction he got from the current group of players, who've now abandoned him.

Why should we trust him with any other group of players? There's no evidence that he's the right man to recruit and develop them.

The only reason he should keep his job is that there are no obvious alternatives.

Because that's what our squad is. Average.

The teams around us have better squads than us. Go through the Top 6 and how many players that our rivals have can you honestly say that we'd take. Quite a fair amount I'd suspect.

Now how many of our players would make their squads. Not a lot baring De Gea and Pogba. In fact, I'd go as far as saying 0.

There's at least 5-6 players in each squad. More so in a team like City, would we take at United.

That's the difference. That's why Ole is saying we should be aiming for Top 4. We simply are not good enough. Plain and simple. I'm sorry but that's just reality nowadays.

This same squad finished 2nd last year. The teams around us invested smartly when we didn't and look where we ended up.

Our squad is poor.

You make it sound as if every team in the top 5 was prime Barcelona. Except City all the other teams have average players starting in their squad.

Arsenal: Mhkitaryan, Iwobi, Elneny, Guendozi, Lichteiner, Mustafi, Monreal, Leno, Kosclienly, Xhaka, Kolasniac

Liverpool: Matip, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Milner, Oxlade-chamberlain

Chelsea: Higuain, Jorginho, Barkeley, Loftus-cheek, Zappacosta, Kovacic

Spurs:most of his squad besides Kante, Erikseen and Son.

Its seems we have to own a world class starting XI in order to achieve top 4? bollocks. We have a good a squad as anyone outside the top 2 teams. Saying our aim should be to finish there is completely mediocre.

The PSG home fixture is where Pogba's form ended why because tactically Tuchel provided the first blueprint to render Solskjaer tactically inept. Most teams that played us since put out defensive blocks around the areas that Pogba would occupy to be effective.

People seem to think that 2-0 home defeat was just a game but it provided a perfect guide to mute our attacking threat. So without Pogba fit and raring we have nothing to offer as a team, that's why Herrera can sling his hook to France where he will retire and 75% of our first team can follow him around the globe.
So it was not because of an arm around the shoulder approach after all, and it was only luck until Ole was found out to be inept? Yeah it might be true, I never said neither that nor the contrary.

Either way some of the performances after that initial period form Pogba have been appalling and nothing with tactics. Just the same old brainless Pogba who can't do even the basics right and instead throws his arms up in the air.

You said park the bus and counter attack.

You can't conclude what his identity as a manager is based on this shite run of matches, when he's stated explicitly himself that this isn't how he prefers to play. That's not very reasonable.

He been here for 6 months now, and was playing counterattack style since the first games when we had the winning streak.

I think its safe to say 6 months its a decent time for him to implement his style.

But he is not going to be signing a full squad, is he? He has done a mediocre job with the current squad and most of these players will still be here next season. If he has been unable to do anything with the current squad, don't you think he still might not be able to do anything with new players? Don't you think it is the right time to start doubting his capabilities?

Like I said I don't know. If the dressing room is as toxic as we are led to believe I'm not sure anyone could do anything until those players are removed. Right now when things are this raw, yes I'd rather have someone like Poch with a proven history of building a team, but a few months back I was sure Ole was the man for the job.

He wont touch majority of those fecks, there for he wont reap them to shreds in public, well feck that.

To break it down into points. If he can improve by 10-12 points, 4 extra wins, he will get top 4 next year. In theory achievable. We dropped 5 in the last 2 games against already relegated teams. Thats a good platform to build upon.

I hope that you can understand what you have written because it doesn't make sense.
What is this good platform. Loosing to Huddersfield and Cardiff ?
Top 4 is in theory achievable. Of course it should be achievable. This is Manchester United we are talking about not Brighton or Burnley.

He was brought in as a caretaker manager, and should have been kept as such.

This proves that the management are just trigger happy muppets like the rest of us.

So what made you change your mind.

There is no chance Ole is going to turn this around. The board need to admit it was a massive mistake appointing him and get a change of manger. The boards pride is all that is keeping him there now. Continuing with a manger who is out of his depth is going to cause a lot more damage.

You mean the same Klopp who's just reached his second CL final in a row and nearly won the league? Are you for real?

Managers get time if they deserve it. None of our three previous managers deserved that time - do you seriously think any of them would have turned it round if they'd simply been given a bit longer?

He’s got to go sadly. Worst run of form in history. Won’t happen though as it will mean Ed admitting he’s incompetent in football matters and made a huge mistake.

I would of liked to have thought with the amount of defeats we've encountered in the last three months he was capable of have stopping the rot and ending this horrible season on a or with a bit of another bounce.
I know he gave a few of the youth a chance and played politics with other players and even a bit of sentiment towards others before they go but its been dire.
He was the wrongly appointed in my opinion and given the job at the wrong time. In hindsight weve missed an opportunity of getting top four.
As bad as the football and atmosphere in the dressing was jose would of cruised top four. Jose should of gone st the end of the season.
We are where we are but i have got no confidence in ole to sort tne club out next season at all.
Hell do well to get in and rid of numbers at the club.
Living local to Cardiff and haveing numerous cardiff fans in different circles telling me how bad it was under Ole. All thought it was a mind bongling decision even after giving them a good going over at home during the xmas period.

This. We should let the team run itself the way the manager always gets let off. Then there would be no excuse.

Was just wondering how many people would still be supporting Ole if he wasn’t ex Utd?

This. it has to be done. We cant possibly keep Ole as a manager it will be a disaster

He has shown that he knows the club culture and profile of players we should be bringing in. The legend status is there. Well spoken. It would have been a great move after the disaster finale. But naw, we hired him months ago.

Do you think Ole would go for it?

Let the man at least have a whole season and a transferbudget so he can buy and also get rid of the players he wants, and then you can judge him

Jose wasn't even given this luxury, Ole won't either because Woodward is clueless but sadly Woodward is the most unremovable figure at the club and refuses to hire a DoF because he fancies himself as being it and he won't properly allow a significant overhaul in 1 window. No, instead of clearing out some dead weight and going for proper team building targets Woodward will be focused on a kit profit signing like Paulo Dybala and will sign a CM that is linked by papers to City, Chelsea, or Liverpool but not a CM we need and then will be sitting there having spent 150m+ on 2 players we didn't need instead of getting a proper commanding CB, a RB that can defend and put in crosses that actually find people and a CM that is an actual fit that improves the MF.

Our squad is poor.

So we actually overachieved by finishing just 5 points behind Spurs (and perennial wet dream, Poch) who have underachieved.

May be "average" but the players in bold would get in our squad.

Spurs the whole squad isn't average.

Trippier, Alli, Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Dier, would all get in to our squad.

So if we hired a duck as manager we should wait to sack it because..reasons.

I’f they’re not good enough then we need to be ruthless & start acting like the biggest club in England

What! Typical...

At least give duck a chance to rebuild. Calling for the quack this early is embarassing quite frankly. We have to give him a chance to implement his 3 year plan and cull the squad of deadwood. Rashy.

Potential solution:

Move Ole to DOF and finish the supposed thorough search for a manager.

And have a unexperienced person as DOF? People think we can have anybody as DOF and that will solve things.

Potential solution: sack Ole and make it look like he resigned. That would be the best scenario, save face for the PR and stop this nonsense.

It’s like Real appointing Solari.

Of course they fixed that mistake right away. We will need another year to learn from our.
