When my mate, who is a Liverpool fan, was admitting how well he's done, it boggles the mind when some of our own fans don't. He called him the PE Teacher and all that good stuff too.

It's actually quite ridiculous how much things are better than under any of the managers since Fergie. Yes, we need to win something, but we're certainly heading in the right direction.

Part of that is because much of the noise (at least on here) is from a vocal minority who think we should be winning every game by 3-0+, challenging for the CL immediately, players never make mistakes, etc... Also people that ignore we had no preseason and started with an unfair disadvantage, I could go on...

He's done a great job. We could feasably finish the season 5 or 6 points off the pace, which is good going considering what he started with. If we begin the next season well, and manage to get a good run together, the percieved gap between us and some other teams is nothing like the chasm it appeared at one point. A good window and we're in a position to challenge properly. The patience will have been worth it.

Aye. There was that plonker who said his expectation for this season was winning the PL or the CL, and that if we don't win either next season, Ole needs sacking regardless of circumstance.

It's like United exists in a vacuum to them, and nothing other teams do affect us in any way.

He has really won me over . Some inspired calls, like promoting Henderson. At this tail end of the season, its not about style, results matter more. One of the best seasons for me after SAF. I actually am always looking forward to our games..

Still progress. But nearly there. For those who saw this progress even during some rough times it isn't strange. Now we are on verge to fight for trophies.

Great job from Solskjaer and also his staff.

Ole played in a side that never gave up until the final whistle. Whatever else you think about him, there's plenty of evidence that he's put that spirit back into the side.

Average league points for Man United since Ferguson retired was 69. United are now ahead of that average with 4 games to play. Clear progression.

Best we have looked since Fergie retired. Hopefully we get a trophy at the end of the season to show for it.

The best season post-Fergie, imo. It’s been a long time since I anticipated our games like this.

He's managed less than 70 in his first two seasons (66 in each, the first of course being the season he replaced Mourinho). Mourinho managed 82 in his second season when we finished second. That's the only 80 plus points season in the post Fergie era that boosted our points average and that remains the benchmark for Solskjaer to surpass.

Our games are enjoyable again. Can’t recall the last time I felt like that.

One thing I will say, he has changed the mentality and instilled belief.

I wasn’t even worried today after going 1-0 down. I believe in the quality the team has now.

I have doubted him so many times along the way and felt so concerned at times, but have always said how likeable he is as a character and how much I preferred the team he was building. My worry was the coaching aspect and if he was cut out for it.

His win percentage this season speaks for itself though, and if he wins a trophy, hopefully we can all put the argument to bed and get behind him fully next season.

He has had to work for recognition and to win a lot of us over, but am really pleased that he is doing just that. Well done Ole.

No doubt about it, he’s done a great job. I don’t mind admitting I had my doubts early on but he’s got rid of the deadwood, made brilliant signings and now we’ve got a brilliant team that are all fighting for the cause and the league position speaks for itself. Great stuff.

Back him in the summer, one or two top drawer signings and Pep had better watch out next season.

Let's not forget 2017/2018 season under Jose DeGea had probably his best season in a United shirt. The progress made this season in comparison hasn't
relied on the goalkeeper to produce a number of man of the match performances.

With 5 games remaining in the season, we're 6 goals away from equaling the highest goal scoring season we've had in the past 10 seasons.

As long as we keep improving, i dont see how anyone can have any serious complaints about him really. Already beat our points haul from last season with 4 games to go and got to the EL final

Made an impressive amounts of comebacks this season, squad seems to be happy and harmonious and we play better football now than we have done in a long time

He’s making it easy to argue that he’s the right man for this. May this last for a very very long time

How can Ole be the better manager because he rebuilt the club? He's rebuilt the club and yet Mourinho's achievement outweighs his. This is not an argument you can easily win. And I'm sure nobody that says Mourinho is better wants him back here over Ole.

Ole has built the better squad and better play style but Mourinho has achieved more. So as of now anybody saying Mou or Ole is better is subjective. It becomes fact in Ole's favour if we win the EL
The difference between Mourinho and Ole is that with Mourinho there wasn't any sign that things will get better whereas with Ole, things look to be moving in the right direction.

I'm sorry but this is a ridiculous argument.

You can rebuild it for short term or for long term. What Mou did was sustainable for 2-3 odd seasons. The squad was not just ageing, it either consisted of past it players or players then at the peak. The younger players like Rashford, Shaw, Martial were not happy and on the verge of leaving.

Under Ole, this is clearly a much younger side, a side I expect to retain its core for another 4-5 years and make a few modifications here and there to achieve something. For the first time in a decade, I feel the manager is actually building keeping not just the next 2-3 years in mind but the next 8-10 years. And nearly every signing of his backs up that point

Apart from Sir Alex. We have also been ruthless.
Big Ron sacked after winning the FA cup twice and 5 consecutive top 4 finishes. LVG right after winning the FA cup. Jose after finishing second and winning two titles. DM after only few months as a manager. I dont think Real Madrid fans are losing sleep after sacking the managers and winning 14 CL.

There are many ways you can look at things - yes in a way you are correct. Big Ron was sacked after 5 consecutive top 4 finishes - of course you neglect to mention that the season he was fired we started the season with 6 defeats from the first 8 and a 1-5 thumping by Southampton in the league cup. And the same with Jose - he was also fired for a horrible start to the season and losing the dressing room - not for finishing 2nd in the league.

But as always - you interpret facts in your own way

So no negative posts in here but so many still felt the need to "defend" the manager and hitting out at critics. Very adult stuff, not weird at all. Well done, folks, just say the same stuff over and over, show how secure you are :D

About the game, very good result, before the Cavani-goal I didn't feel the match really deserved a winner but Cavanis goal and the red card sealed the game. I had the feeling, we were struggling a bit, even though we had Pogba on the left playing well together with Shaw. Oppenents will start to try to counter that, lets see, how we will cope with it. Right now, the team plays very mature, knows that chances will come. Very good job.

Great second half I say. Now top 4 is secured. I would play with the B-team against Leicester and go all out against Liverpool.

If it works and we stop Pool from getting CL it will be so funny.

Are you feeling personally attacked?

I want a manager who shows signs that they are learning and improving. I can wait a couple of years for them to get on with it. I am glad Ole is that at this moment.

There is a risk with hiring already established managers. You don't know what to expect after each season. And, it seems that history of our club shows so far that it does not work at all.

I just hope he will be backed in the summer.

Ironic to bring it up in such a manner, no? :)

It's because the incessant negativity got pretty toxic and damn near ruined the forum. I like this place and wanted to post more after lurking for years, but it was very unpleasant if you dared to see any kind of positivity and growth. No shame at all in feeling vindicated and voicing that, for me. After the next few weeks we start all over again, with some progress and minor success providing some new context. The doubters are welcome and in the right to vent their spleens if it all goes to s**t.

Glad you think the game ultimately did merit a winner - however late. The team must be thrilled to have met your approval.

As for your concerns regarding future opponents countering our tactics that are currently working for us, I am overjoyed to report that most of the times the opposition does indeed attempt to surmount the challenge posed by our team - or any team they face. We too are not immune to that quixotic desire. In my humble opinion, in fact, it is one of the singular pleasures of football - where there are generally two sides playing to gain something from the match.

They've been on the site less than two months so that's unlikely.

It’s odd that some Manchester United fans are offended by Manchester United fans being happy about the Manchester United Manager doing well after Manchester United win a football match

This season has been fun under Ole. If he had a proper backing last summer, the race could have been a lot more interesting. We dropped unbelievably stupid points against relegated teams. Anyway, we can see this side improving every week and Ole is making our players better. Something we didn't see from the managers before him.

Been hanging around this place for a long time? It's the kind of reaction you get when people have been lambasting Ole and his believers for ages. Some of the believers quite understandably feel vindicated. Lately quite a number of people after matches are flagging their opinion on Ole has changed, mostly for the better. I think that's fine and worthy a mention. If you feel no need to read those messages, feel free not to. But for the previous Ole-in's and Ole-out's I think it is quite healthy to come to terms with what has been said, let some steam out and then move forward united as supporters of team and manager.

That's a reasonable POV.

I'd argue that we haven't really hired a top class manager since Fergie retired. However, with the way we operate allowing every manager to tear it all up, someone like Ole is probably best for stability and squad direction as long as he learns from and quickly rectifies his mistakes (which for the most part he's doing right now).

It would be icing on the cake if he can learn and improve to the level of winning the PL and competing for the CL.

I was listening to talksport after the game and a united fan called in and said he's ole out and "will always be ole out". Darren Bent asked him why and this guy replied that our football under him is awful.... Seriously this prat was saying our football is awful.

I'd gone to make a cup of coffee and put the radio on and heard what you heard the same. I nearly dropped my coffee. Thing is these people never suggest an alternative manager.
