Di Maria's angel
Captain of Moanchester United
We could literally do that for any team. Take out the times City scored 5 and 4 and they'd have less.
They're called anomalies.
We could literally do that for any team. Take out the times City scored 5 and 4 and they'd have less.
Their goals are more evenly distributed than ours though. To do a direct comparison: their three highest scoring wins were three 5-0s. That's 22% of their total, as opposed to our 33%. And it's a City team that spent the entire season playing without a centre-forward and being praised for their defensive solidity. They're not exactly the goal machines of 2017/18 either.
Also, I didn't see you making the same point in the "our tough start to the season hides our progress'" thread Even though it applies there as well: if you take out three horrible games, any team's season looks much better. Those three games are also regularly cited to highlight our defensive record in the other games, with the reasoning being that after those early games, we haven't conceded a lot. And once more, you could make the same argument: if you take out the games where a team conceded a lot of goals, their defensive record will obviously look much better.
Either every game counts no matter what we're talking about, or you have to allow discussion on context and specific circumstances. Our attack is very often unspectacular and struggling to create chances - and sometimes it explodes, and runs rampant. We have a high 'top' level in attack - but a very low 'bottom' level.
Fair enough but most of those losses were in the first season and a half. Dismantling Jose's Frankenstein(Lukaku, Sanchez etc) and playing games with Lingard and Perreira took it's toll. Since we've gotten Bruno we've lost 4 league games.Six more games and he's managed the same number of games as Jose did for us.
Ole so far: P138 W77 D31 L30 Win% 55.8
Jose: P144 W84 D32 L28 Win% 58.2
Again 13 of those 17 losses came pre Bruno. Only 4 since. This obviously shows definite progress. Here's the league stats. Pretty close across the board with Jose with the exception of clean sheets. But obviously Ole has 4 more games to be even with Jose.
Manager Games W D L Win % Points PG GF GA GD GF PG GA PG Clean Sheets LVG 76 39 19 18 51.32% 1.79 111 72 +39 1.46 0.95 29 Jose 93 50 26 17 53.76% 1.89 151 86 +63 1.62 0.92 38 Ole 89 47 25 17 52.81% 1.87 160 94 +66 1.80 1.06 30
I think all those are separate issues though. Goalscoring and defences can be looked at as a whole and viewing the season as a whole, we're second only to City (who have played a game more) in the goals scored column. Take the 9 and 6 out, and we still compare favourably to the vast majority of teams across the league. On the defence, we're currently the 3rd or 4th best defensive team in the league and that's with the horrible first three games of the season. If we took those three games out, it's even better, but it's still a more than decent record thus far.Their goals are more evenly distributed than ours though. If you buy them(good players), the results will come.
And I've given the stats a bit of context. Great stuff.Eh? These are stats mate. I have said zero opinion.

Very professional job tonight. Was never going go be a classic - but a two nil victory is a good result, and we were comfortable all night.
After every game. Every time. As always. There will be those who will never be happy. Darkness, negativity and rainy days all day long.Dead football. Rubbish coach.
But he wins so we keep this train going until it derails.
Every game is professional. So when do we play exciting football? Pre season?
Did PSG do a professional job against Bayern?
Expectations are always 74-26 in possesion. 39 - 0 in shots. 6-0. Goals from Mbappe, DeMaria, Mourinho, Signori and a brace from Batistuta.I mean, it was an away game in the EL against Granada - I'm not sure what your expectations were, but quality wise, mine were low. I would call this win professional as in we went there and did what we needed to do. Hopefully now we can do a-bit of rotating for the second leg.
The other 3 EL games tonight hardly looked like they were riveting.
Errm yes? I guess?Did PSG do a professional job against Bayern?

Being negative and critical of everything is fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but what strikes me as more confusing is the insistence to drag others into their critical thinking, regardless of result, when said people only want to express their own opinion on something they have obviously enjoyed. Mainly because they think there own opinion is fact. After every game. Every time. As always. There will be those who will never be happy. Darkness, negativity and rainy days all day long.

Most of Chelsea's wins under Tuchel would qualify as professional, no nonsense resultsDid PSG do a professional job against Bayern?
He didn't looked too injured... think it could be for regaining full stamina on Spurs.Does anyone know why he did sub off Shaw? Just for red card risk? Although we already had 3 players with yellows at the time. Made more sense to bring on someone in midfield for Mctominay.
Or did he have any injury problems?
It was Granada. Granada. I repeat Granada.
lord help us back in the Champions league next season. We’ll be back in the Europa again. Maybe we can try and break Sevilla’s record.
Classic Ole ball, bailed by one moment of brilliance by Lindelof and Rashford tonight. I mean it's only Granada and we only scraped a win. The problem for Ole is that he's not a system manager, he relies a lot on his players to perform at their very best, they seem to be out of motivation and form at the same time now. Purely managers problem. I mean it was always going to be hard with McTominay and James as starters, hope Fletch is doing his homework.Dead football. Rubbish coach.

I mean, Arsenal just drew 1-1 at home to Slavia Prague. I'm not sure how a 2 nil away win in the first league of a EL semifinal could be considered anything other than a good result.
I'm not calling it the result of the decade and yes, quality wise it was fairly shite. I would still call it a good, professional performance.
Well Shaw was gonna miss the second leg, and will start the league game, so Ole simply saved his legs and tried to play Telles into some sort of form in his 45 mins. Made total sense..Does anyone know why he did sub off Shaw? Just for red card risk? Although we already had 3 players with yellows at the time. There is solution. Don't watch. Instead, there are clubs in Champions League you can watch on regular basis in their leagues to. It is ok, we will manage to go forward even without this negativity.Nope my life is good. The only rubbish part is having to watch this United football every week.
Good thing I got to witness some good champions league football on Wednesday. Doing professional jobs and all that.
Yeah that's why he's overrated manager and we should be happy he end up at Chelsea. He's nothing but a hyped up hipster manager who did okay at Dortmund. Most of Chelsea's wins under Tuchel would qualify as professional, no nonsense results

We weren't always exciting in Europe under SAF, so this result is fine by me, They hardly had a sniff at our goal.Yep. There football is boring too. Just like his PSG management. Boring is boring.
feck me Brighton are unlucky
xG For - xG Against Over the season. Cool visualization of our form - didn't start the first few games of the season well, but have been a very solid side after that. We don't really hit the highs that City / Liverpool or even Chelsea do goals wise but we're extremely solid defensively. Adding a bit of attacking threat at RW / CF should take us to another level.
I think makes a case for Arteta at Arsenal as well. They've been through a lot while he was chopping and changing, but form has improved significantly after they went to the 4-2-3-1.
I think everyone knows Brighton are xG champions but don't seem to translate that into points for one reason or the other. Worth keeping an eye on Graham Potter as an up and coming manager. Maybe Spurs / Arsenal will take a chance with him.

Looking at the teams in the competition I'd be hugely disappointed not to win it. Arsenal are dogshite and the only team which can cause us trouble. The team needs a trophy lift if we fail to do so this year again, any kind of contract extension would be as bad as extending Phil Jones contract. We should really aim much higher than this. And football was supposed to be fun they said, ffs I managed to do my ironing today how boring it was. Been more than 8,9 years playing shite, including Fergies last two seasons, albeit we at least won the last one.

As a fan, you could be more happy instead of attacking manager and the team for winning(!) 2-0 away against Granada who is 9th in the league.Wouldn’t be much of a fan then would I?
