Ole: “maybe something has to give”

My 2 cents:
Last season our strength was pace in the attack.

We had problems in midfield, defence and even the goal keeping was dubious, but teams were afraid to come at us, and those that did we often punished very harshly.

We had a problem against teams that were content to sit back.

This season we sold Dan James, Rashford was out and we've lost our major strength. We've signed players like Ronaldo (I don't think we needed him), Sancho to break down defences and Varane (who still do not seem to have bedded in).

The midfield is still very much lacking in quality, and should have been prioritized over signing a striker.

So, while there's a lot of room for improvement over the coming period, we're still in a transition and it could go either way.

I do how ever think we need a manager who can keep players on their toes and manage the big egos.

Why stop there? It all started in 1995 when we sold Hughes, Ince, and Kanchelskis and bought no one instead.
 
So during the past two weeks they've had a good look at what went wrong but after this result they need to look even deeper? What the feck sort of line is that? :lol:

2 weeks later: We need to look at our entire existence and question what's the actual purpose of it all.

I'd even be tempted to move Lindelof out there, rather than face that, to be fair.

Right back is a serious issued for this side. Maguire is too slow for when we need to push up, and our midfield cannot function as a 2 in possession. Its really piss poor.

No club finishes the job in one window. They just have better managers than us.
 
Basically admitting what we all knew, he’s just chucking a bunch of attackers on and hoping it’ll make up for a complete lack of midfield

He cares alright but the most worrying thing for me is he thinks he's good enough to change it which is probably why he's never going to resign. Don't think it matters what he does. His clock is ticking. If he leave Ronaldo or Bruno out they have enough clout to turn the squad against him. Tick tock Ole. Tick feckin tock.

I'm not sure what their original point was. But I think it means that we give way too much leeway if it's one of our own legends. Let's say Ole was not a United legend, would he have had more pressure? Very likely. There will obviously be bias towards someone we like.

Why stop there? It all started when we signed Moses and Robson, two West Brom players to satisfy our brexit squad. We should have gone for zidane
 
A concern with the balance of the side would to me indicate he is thinking about dropping some combination of Pogba/Bruno/Ronaldo.

I think he has some say but not much.

Think of it this way. We were told he had a £100m net budget over the summer. He bought Varane who we needed and Sancho who was a nice to have. And that was him done despite us obviously desperately needing one or two DMs.

And then Ronaldo came available and suddenly there was more money. Because Ed could structure that deal in a way that worked for his business model. So we end up with another player who is nice to have but not hugely needed instead of the defensive midfield that is hugely needed. And so you end up with Matic and Pogba playing there, and losing 4-2 to Leicester. It's really not complicated. And it's really not down to Ole. Yes he's a crap coach but he's really there to provide cover with the top reds and be the Glazers' yes man.
 
He needs to do what any under pressure manager would do and focus, first and foremost, on finding a formation and personnel that makes us more solid. If that means dropping a flair player, so be it.

Should've been done ages ago tbf.

I know you think you’re making a point here, but what I said isn’t mutually exclusive with him being a bum and not good enough. the attachment some fans, journalists and pundits and potentially people within the hierarchy of the club have to him is prolonging something that should have been done a while ago. Ole’s appointment was rather emotional and that’s partially because he’s an ex-United player.
 
Literally, every fan, every commentator, every pundit watching United week in, week out, has been constantly saying how easy we are to play against. Our midfield just gets walked through all the time and at ease, yet Ole still doesn't know how to sort it out.
He has been the luckiest manager in world football this season and we are very fortunate to have as many points as what we do, but his luck is finally running out because today played out as it could have done for the last few months of football.
HE HAS TO GO.

The job is never finished at any club. Thinking it will ever be finished is silly. You always need the pipeline being restocked. Old players moved on. Fresh blood. Fergie understood this like nobody else.

The biggest fear is that he puts us through a Moyes style Liverpool & City double header home battering before he goes.

I still hope he gets our of trouble with a couple of unexpected good results as [previously, but eventually you have to decide, is this guy winning stuff for us.

I would respect him if he resigned and said it’s time for someone else. I honestly don’t think he has grand plans to be some high profile manager by any means. I think he’s content to be managing his hometown club or maybe the Norwegian national team.
 
Well he has to do something monumentally different because even more concerning than the performances themselves is the mindset and opinions in the dressing room. Ole is days away from losing all respect and in the modern age therefore his job.

You simply CAN NOT have a squad like this (even if some names are objectively passed their best) and look this devoid of coaching prowess.

It's do or die hanging by a thread only by virtue of the fact it's Man Utd we're talking about. Any other club he's already gone. And that do or die involves dropping imo not just Pogba, but Ronaldo too. It's evident this "team" does not have the personnel to find a balance.

Ronaldo was not the signing for a team who only looked decent after Lukaku left and Cavani started playing. So take Cavani out in favour of a player who requires a well oiled tight knit creative structure behind him and won't put in the speculative hard yards??? How many years have we struggled to create chances that weren't counters or worldies. A poacher was not our need.

Pogba, gripes long established.
Martial, ....

Too much still wrong with our squad.

For starters we simply don't get enough bodies in the box, or in the right places to create danger. Secondly we don't have the well drilled patterns/approach play to get there anyway. Thirdly, as Wenger would say...mental strength...lacking, ...and say it twice more.

He can't go 3 at the back long term because that's the end of it..a wasted extra body at the back and even less of a route upfield. He has to get the balance right and define the requirements and roles of his attacking players.

Either way, I tell you what, I actually want to see this play out.... show some strength and change something Ole. Your job is on the line anyway.

Side note: Anderson Cleverley or Fred McTominay? I'm having flashbacks.

Most likely this mate.

Will make Ole look real dumb too considering he decided to sign another two attackers this summer.
 


I think he's on borrowed time. There's no need for the club to do this brief if he's staying. The "As things stand" is very telling

There's pros and cons of that back 3 for sure.
Give Ronaldo some support in either Cavani or Rashford.
Still play Bruno, and 2 cm whilst having 3 central guys behind them.

Obvious downside is that we don't really have wingbacks. Shaw can probably do a decent job there, but WB can't.
And we have some wingers who are flyers, unless we think we can convert Sancho to an attacking wing back, and have Wan B as the 3rd centre back.
