Plunging the club into further debt and also likely hampering our transfer kitty each summer.

Glazers are too poor to own a top tier club like ours. Time to sell to someone wealthier and feck off.

The opportunity to rename the stadium and sell the rights The Sony Old Trafford stadium or whatever would pay for itself over time. Wouldn’t affect transfer budget, especially if we get a mob in who can identify targets of better value than Maguire, AWB, Fred etc.
They aren’t selling unless fans on mass abandon the club (which isn’t going to happen either).

Agreed, but the hope is the Glazers want something value enhancing to United, rather than some ugly cheap option.

History is an odd one. Nou Camp and Bernabeu are ugly as hell from the outside, but cool inside. Ajax's stadium is brilliant and the atmos is great.
One of their appeals is largely their historical standing , nou camp for example was pretty bare bones for our 99 final and yet it still had and electric atmosphere, same with Bernabeu though they replaced it with a new one.

Hopefully we get one that isn't completely detached from our illustrious history .

I really dont understand what's the purpose of this kind of posts.
So you believe the Glazers have the best interests of the club at heart ?

So you also believe they are going to improve the stadium and the statement is not spin or outright bs?

Or do you simply not understand posts. Maybe sign up for a course so that you can process and understand language. That might help.

Looking at the poll I’d say those that want a rebuild are the fans that don’t go to the games, I’m a season ticket holder of many years and I want OT renovating!

Just because people don't hold the same view as you doesn't mean you're right.

I share a season ticket so get to a good few games each season and I want it rebuilding. I've had some of my best every memories inside OT, but it's in a crap state and the architecture of the ground means a renovation won't be much more than a lick of paint. We should be at the forefront of modern clubs and a stadium that matches that ethos, the only way I see that as being possible is starting from scratch

Nobody is a fan of the Glazers but they are seemingly damned if they do and damned if they don’t.

Just this past couple of years there has been significant maintenance carried out including rail seating, disabled seating and new floodlights. Instead of being a boring piece of news it gets described as the bare minimum etc.

The disabled seating were done was because they had no choice. Unbelievable that after all of this, people are going to defend the Glazers by saying they installed new floodlights to improve the pictures for TV. Even then the LEDs will reduce consumption so it’s actually going to save money in the day to day running

I’m not defending the Glazers. Just saying you don’t renovate a stadium built mostly in the 90’s and 2000’s until around now. It would have been weird to build again before now.

Maybe calm down a bit.

What a sly, cheap and frankly awful dig. Kudos.

Well considering they're hiring people to start the process I'm going to take a wild guess and say yes. But what do I know, wasting money on firms and architects just to pull the plug at the last minute and announce to the fans that no redevelopment will be happening sounds like a great idea. It will for sure get the fans off their back!

I wish they would do it properly and build a modern stadium, the difference between the experience at some of the modern NFL stadiums and even Spurs to Old Trafford is huge.

But I'm sure they will do whatever the cheapest option is and pretend it's about respecting history

Why does it have to be bland? That's such a lame argument. We obviously have more funds than a Bolton or Middlesbrough and there's no reason we can't build something cool.

Look at these projects below.

I agree it does have to be bland, but the Mestalla looks like a broken toilet seat. I hope OT is more recognisable than that.

The question of where the money is going to come from to finance is the intresting factor, this kind of project has had massive impact on the the finances of Arsenal and Spurs.
consider we already have quite a chunky debt and a fan base that generally has a mental break down if we don’t at bare minimum 100 million in transfers in a summer window.
So I can see this making people very angry going forward.

:lol:I've seen better angles of it than the one I posted. I was just trying to say the 'all new stadiums are bland' argument is a weak one.
A refurb is not a bad option, but it's kicking the can down the road in some ways and won't fix some issues.

We're just getting a South Stand and a lick of paint for £200m, Jippy. I suspect there be a lot of corporate boxes in that new stand.

The whole thought process of some fans is bizarre.

Probably do the he corners + huge corporate boxes on the current South Stand meaning we won't not extend over the railway. That'll take us 80k.

Wouldn't be a surprise, but £200m seems a hell of a lot for that. I've no idea how much fixing the roof will cost though.

They won't fix the roof IMO. They may only do the South Stand and not touch the corners...it's only a 6k expansion, the quadrants added 8k on the other side. Whether the £200m will be the start of a masterplan is something we'll have to wait and see. I hope there's a longer term plan.

There would probably be room in that budget for upgrading the concourses, too, but not major works like a new roof and stadium facade.

If the figures are correct, it looks like the Glazers are aiming for a minor refurb and a modest increase in capacity, rather than a large-scale renovation or rebuild.

Yes, it's peanuts in the general scheme of
things but I suppose we'll have to wait and see the plans...I'm not sure the tabloids are privy to how much were willing to spend.

Hardly an absolute shithole. What a silly statement From Neville. The stadium still looks amazing when you walk out of the tunnel
Been a few years since I did the stadium tour (8 I think ) but it looked great to me in most areas.. Maybe now it Needs a revamp in some internal areas but to tear down our history and bang up another Etiad - no thanks. Not to mention the huge debt we would be left saddled with.

Neville is a multimillionaire property developer, he's waiting in the shadows and licking his lips. I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him.

Neville acts like he hates the club. Ive always disliked the twat to be honest.

People actually believe that they’re putting this news out now because about 150 people plan on standing outside for 17 minutes on Saturday
For some reason people seem to think any news whatsoever is PR trying to cover up something else, this is just news.

I was at a Wycombe game today and our biggest stand has glorious leg room.
When a...with all due respect family of "Large" individuals were in the row in front, I couldn't help thinking of how awkward that would have been at Old Trafford!

You have barely any room as it is, especially leg room, so you would literally have crushed the person in front, not to mention to the side!

There'd be a fecking riot if we sold the stadium naming rights.

No there wouldn’t. If we get a new stadium, then it’ll get be the whatever old Trafford stadium. The naming rights will eventually pay for the stadium. If it’s a redevelopment then it’ll be the clubs issue and debt to pay for it.

Selling naming rights would be pointless as nobody would call it anything other than Old Trafford

Given the figures being touted for the Chelsea sale I think they are being idiotic by not selling, considering that Chelsea is a forced sale. I don't see the economic sense of holding out for £20m dividends, the occassional share sale and the headache of running a football club with a vocal support base pestering you when you could easily get someoene to give you £4bn to £5bn.
