Also, I highly doubt there is going to be a newly built stadium.

Hopefully Joel surprises me, like he did with Ralf, but I just don't see it!

Every club is like this not just Utd. Granted if you are someone who likes a good chant it’s demoralising trying to start a song and people stare at you and 10 seconds in you’re still singing it on your own. It’s gone to a point where I’ll only sit/stand in West and East Stands.
Isnt atmosphere improved cause of the singing section and safe standing?

Cant we play at Old Trafford while the stadium is being renovated step by step?

Isnt Bernabeu renovated right now and Madrid is playing there?

Yes in those sections but TRA can be singing for 90 mins but it doesn’t mean nothing to the south stand only for them to pull out the phone and start recording it

I love Roy but he's unhinged and extreme in his opinion on literally everything isn't he. OT when it's bouncing is as loud as anywhere and our away fans are the best in the country by a county mile.

Yes the stadium has a load of tourists but that's just a by-product of being one of the most famous clubs on earth.

if we are doing a major revamp and not papering over the cracks, surely this is going to be funded by a naming rights change to OT.

personally i see no issues with that if it means reducing the need for us to take on more debt.

Bayern have allianz (sure the have juve as well), City have Etihad, Arsenal Emirates, prettu sure Real are selling there as might Barca etc

I'm glad to hear they are redeveloping Old Trafford, the thought of abandoning it for a new stadium makes me shudder given it's legacy and potential to be upgraded. Most Liverpool fans are probably thankful that they never followed through on the plan to leave Anfield for Stanley Park, given how that nearly happened.

They were playing at their training ground for a while due to the renovation. That was when crowds were banned though, so perhaps they chose to do that to make things easier/quicker.

Yeah I think it was due to covid, not renovation as it didnt started then but later.

Stay at Old Trafford, even if the rennovation costs more than a new build. The novelty of a new stadium would soon wear off.

In an ideal world, no. But I also don't know enough about construction to understand whether you could revamp OT, to the standards of the best stadiums in the world...which should be our aim!
Our aim should be that the stadium gets renovated, modernised, south stand gets bigger, roof gets replaced with a better, modern one and that it gets more capacity. Best stadium in the world? I more care about United having the stadium in the same place as on the day stadium was built.

we should be building a new stadium.
We could do what Spurs did and rebuild a state of the art stadium in the same area, yes iT would mean playing away from home for a couple of seasons , but its not impossible.

Where would we play during that?

At least another year for design ideas and studies to be done and it will unlikely see anything start before 2024 at earliest.

Yeah that’s in normal circumstances but we’re talking the Glazers here, they’re going to long this out as much as they can, be seen to be doing the right things so the suckers don’t kick off.

Depends exactly what the nature of the work is, and if it's major, can they squeeze it into a summer break?

Name change too ?
Sadly there’s no guarantee that the “revamp” will escape a name change.

The worst outcome would be a token tarting-up that didn’t really improve anything in the long term, accompanied by a name change.

Well if everything shuts down again thanks to Covid I don’t think we can blame them for being in the same place they are today 6 months down the line.

I for one would be glad to see Old Trafford get an upgrade and I’m glad the Glazers are keeping their word, credit to them if this does go ahead in the coming months.

Thank you for your insight, Joel.

How would people feel about a new stadium if it used some of the old materials from the current one - some bricks and stuff? That way we might get more than three millimetres of legroom and toilets that are actual toilets, but still maintain some of the history of the old structure. Bit of a shit idea but unless they ripped the place back to just the shell and started over again a lot of the existing problems would still be there.

I love OT but it's very old now and it wouldn't be the worst to rebuild a new stadium on the same site so long as it was different from all the others.. keep it unique.

I'm not sure that will happen though.

Agree about our away fans, but dont think Old Trafford is as loud as anywhere.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned but usually the Allianz arena gets cited as an ideal modern stadium. To me from the inside it looks wank and soulless

Outside and facilities need upgrading but I really like the look of the stadium itself. It feels like a throwback, like it has history …because it does. We definitely shouldn’t knock it down

All the wasted money on Glazers taking back dividends and interest repayments (1.1b) plus overpaid signings and payments of players (Pog 90, Fred 55, Bissaka 50 etc) Jones 100k a week with Mata, could have meant we would have nearly had a new stadium anyway. :(

I wonder, if we build a new stadium (which by the way I doubt will happen based on recent glazer/club comments) would you keep sentimental aspects of OT like the stand names, the statues, the Munich tunnel and the Munich clock/memorial?
As much as people like to complain and compare to new WHL and others There’s a lot about old Trafford to love.

Can't they knock it down and build it again at the same site with the same existing design with better raw materials and modern technology ?

Ideally I wouldn't want us to leave Old Trafford, but it's held together with tape at this point. If we did move then I'd want them to tear down as much of the old one and reuse it. Like you've hinted; to remember where we came from*.

*In my case, a shitty town in Scotland, but you get my point.

Said many times before, can’t see why we cannot do a Spurs and rebuilt a stadium on the same site

Without a doubt, IMHO any new stadium has to have these, stand names not actually too fussed about, but the rest are ingrained in United history

Having easy chants songs to follow helps too i guess that's why viva Ronaldo chants are the most sung now (and him being ronaldo as well)

I really loved the gigs will tear you apart one shame its a bit inappropriate to do right now

Current trend for new grounds, Spurs and Everton included is a giant one tiered stand behind the goal. Imagine one giant Stretty, especially with potential safe standing.

We’re past the identikit new stadium era, designers are adding unique touches. OT’s current hodgepodge design traits could be included to make it feel reminiscent.
