Oil Money in Football | New City expose

Interesting. But why isn't it stopping Der Spiegel?

Not sure, obviously very confident in the source that it's legit and aren't afraid of being sued for libel. BBC have reported now that Spiegel have reported it (nice way to cover themselves whilst getting the story out).

Why are the English media pretty quiet on this?

Other than the fact it was obvious - but now there are facts to prove it - is it because they are scared to go after City (as they took on UEFA/FIFA and clearly won)? Or is it just because they think nothing will happen so what's the point?

An auditor is never independent: they produce what their clients want

So it’s a conspiracy against PSG, huh? Independent means exactly what it sounds like. And both those firms would have to show their work. It’s not like they just pulled numbers out of their bums and pointed a finger. But you keep fighting that good fight, brobeans.

Because City put a nice spread on, and treat the journos well at conferences.
And also they love Pep and think his football is the best in history, so would hate to ruin that even if their whole set up is an absolute disgrace. When you hear Chelsea fans moaning about their money, you know it's messed up.

I don't get how not one City fan has a problem with the blood money flowing into their club through the back channels.

If this was happening at United, I might love the club too much to stop supporting it but I would be quite vocal about not wanting these owners, at the very least.

I'm surprised you ask. The average fan doesn't care about anything deeper than how their team does on the pitch.
How many times have you read "it's not my money, I don't care how much we spend" on this very forum.

All billionaires have tramped over someone to get their vast wealth, it's just some are more sinister than others.

Well Spiersey here has an answer upthread...

UK Media isn't reporting on it because Spiegel get their information via someone that hacks emails, so all the information is illegally obtained. It's the exact same reason no UK media reporting the Ronaldo Rape Case until he officially denied it and police reopened the case (because both of those are factual and not illegally obtained). Theres no conspiracy from the media to protect City, it's just basic common sense to not report on stuff like this at this point.

Indeed. Also worth reading up on the Edwards family for those who aren't aware of how they profited from their involvement with United.

I don't fight and I just express my views.

Bad faith are on both sides really: UEFA saying they want a better/fair football world and PSG saying that some sponsorship contracts are in line with the market (concept that does not have a scientific meaning because there are always some exceptions on a market btw)

Don't you think that FFP is above all a 'political measure'? In which business do you see some investors restricted in terms of invested amounts?

Honestly, I think it's too late to prevent PSG/City from doing their stuff.

What are you on about? It's fairly easy to figure that one out, what's the value of the second highest bid or what's the value of the highest bid from some company that is not owned by your shady owners

Not a specialist in UK law but the leaked documents come from criminal activity (hacking). UK journalists may not be above the law when it come to protecting sources like in France or Germany.

Oh I have no doubt UEFA is still as corrupt as it has ever been and the rules of ffp were to keep the status quo rather than any altruistic reasons, but rules are the rules and and city and PSG(in this instance) are found to be in breach. While there may be some exceptions to market value, I find it very hard to believe that two different bodies found a discrepancy that large and it’s just down to market interpretations.

Well, in this case it didn't seem the client (UEFA) wanted what they produced either, based on the leaks..

Of course, we could agree that some contracts are not in line with the market standards... but the EU is supposed to promote free and totally deregulated markets... for better or for worse

Thats money laundering!
Escobar had the most profitable taxi service of all time with 3 cabs...

Rumours that one of the leaks that is coming has set the arse twitching of one or two Spanish medical practitioners...

I'll never forget being present at Wembley 2011. They ran and ran and ran some more. I have no doubts. I'd love to see justice in my lifetime.

The issue is FFP rules are unclear and that is why there is so much speculation.

The sanctions are also unclear because the UEFA can decide to apply very soft or very hard sanctions at its own discretion.

Untransparent system as usual when it comes to UEFA/FIFA

Paris St-Germain have filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against Uefa's reopening of its investigation into their finances.

This will end the same way as last time. UEFA doesnt have enough resources to prosecute the big clubs, so they will agree on a financial settlement with some going through the backdoor.

I don't see how this is going to be any different.

If the British media don’t splash this all over their pages, then they complicit in the cover ups. There’s a reason why journalists have been lavishing so much praise on City. They are being paid by City to do so. They must be, because there is never a bad word reported about their ill gotten gains.

Thats sounds quite plausible, but it hasn't stopped them in the past. I'm pretty sure Edward Snowdon, Wikileaks & the Panama Papers were all pretty much on the same basis as this and they reported on it quickly and the questionable legality of how the info was obtained did not seem to be an issue.

This is going the way of tobacco companies. They will tie UEFA up in litigation for years and become untouchable.
Good job they're out of everybody's way in France.

I'm pretty sure I read "John" (the guy running Football Leaks) said in an interview thay none of the documents are from hacking, but from people within different organizations sharing documents with them. I'll see if I can find the interview.

It has got to be more than that. The way Martin Samuel has been defending City for years, i'd be surprised if he isn't being paid by them in some form. BTW I'm curious whether it's legal for sports journos to take money from clubs to write favorable articles?

Everything is in place now so I'm not sure any punishment would harm them. A few years out of the CL then it's back to normal.

No, they cannot. It would have to be declared as a paid article. That doesn't mean underhand practices dont take place but its not remotely as widespread as people seem to believe.

Fair dues to Ducker. I didn’t think he’d comment on these leaks seeing as he was one of the more senior journalists to rally bewitched by City and their PR exercises, but here we are. More must follow suit, however, and really apply the pressure.

The current players and manager would be fuming to be out for even a year. It's a big punishment. It's shameful aswell. Guardiola wouldn't want his name connected to a kicked out club.

Guardiola is a little weasel. That yellow ribbon he wears whilst accepting the Arab blood money shows what kind of man he is.

The name I thought of straight away when it emerged a doping story concerning a ‘multiple Champions League winner’ was imminent was Xavi. There’s already evidence out there that he used HGH when recovering from injury. Graham Hunter spoke about it before.

Starting to thing a super league is the only way forward now. Get out from under the corrupt authorities and start again.

If the clubs run it themselves there's no way they'll let City and the other sugardaddy clubs break the rules.
