Official: Solskjær has left his role as manager

Ole is a great guy who was given an opportunity of a lifetime to manage us, it's not his fault his superiors didn't have the wisdom to realise it was not working long ago.

I hope so! If we are getting Ten Hag in June then I’m happy to accept an interim

Agreed.

Thank Christ they've finally done what had to be done. We can finally wish Ole well for the future and move on to something better (hopefully).

It needed to happen but I take no joy in seeing him lose his job. It should’ve happened two weeks ago, all we’ve ended up doing is throwing another match away and letting the media drag his name through the mud for a full international break. I hope we make a decent decision with the interim and of course the permanent manager.

This interim manager scares the shit out of me, if the interim gets top 4 he will get the job permanently like ole did…

He won't. As we're a club without a plan, they'll just try to do the opposite of what they did the last time. So the interim will probably have to win the treble to have any chance of staying.

If an interim comes in and get top 4 they'll have done well because right now it's looking unlikely.
You'll do well to get top 4, in my opinion. The top 3 are way ahead of everybody else, so you'll probably be competing with Arsenal (notwithstanding yesterday's no show at Anfield) and Spurs, if Conte gets them to pull their fingers out. Not sure about WHU and Leicester. They could tail off in the second half of the season.

It’s been obvious that this had to happen and the club have dragged this situation on far longer than necessary but I can’t help but feel sad that it didn’t work out for Ole.
As a player he’ll always be a Utd legend.

Been team Ole for most of his time or at least until he downplayed Utd chances when we were top of the table last season. It's been sad to see what this job has done to him as it is clear to see that he hurts as much as us fans. His interviews over the last weeks have been nothing short of tragic. He looks absolutely shot. This was the only logical outcome.

What I find more shocking is that the club seems absolutely as shocked, even this terrible form that started well before the end of last season and has continued into this season the club doesn't have an idea and nothing is prepared.

There is not a chance that all the staff would be kicked out we have games coming thick and fast and it is understandable that they would be kept until the new full time manager takes over the staff would be overhauled to his liking.

Some of you lot need to have a word with yourself simply some shocking posts here towards Ole. We are in a much better place than before he came and he gave his absolute all for this project. Sadly it didn't work, hope he does well in the future.

Hope these planks at the top now take their time and wait for the right man..

It had to happen, 4 months too late if you ask me, but the board really need to plan the next appointment well, something which they haven't demonstrated up till now.

Would you rather we'd won yesterday and Ole was still in charge?

I always want the team to win.

Wanting your team to lose just so the manager gets sacked is a sad way to be carrying on. It's just people waiting for the happiness that their hopes being achieved brings rather than their actually supporting the team.

Legend. Thanks for all the memories but quite possibly the worst manager we've had on a tactical basis. In game management, coaching set up and squad management was horrific. Not being ruthless against players who are not performing to high standards was one of the most frustrating aspects of his tenure.

I've been thinking hard about our future. It's sad but I really don't think we'll win the Premier League while tuchel, pep and klopp are in this league. This is not the lowering of standards or an excuse for our embarrassing board but they are head and shoulders above all managers in Europe. Its unfortunate they are at our rivals at the same time. What defines those managers is how they work with thier players on the training ground and the high standards they set. Most of thier players know when to get in shape off the ball and where players are running on the ball. This is a pale contrast of what's happened at united. No plan no direction and no foundation building from top to bottom.

None of the alternative managers out there appeal to me. Maybe ten hag or poch can turn things around and atleast have a clear definite way of playing. But unless the priority at the top changes from money to trophies there's no hope.

Carrick should have gone since Jose departure. I really find it hard how this board even think.

Great, see ya never Ole. Hopefully the rest of the inept staff are shown the door soon.

Ok mate, thanks for the lecture.

Best for everyone involved. Ole can go back to being remembered as the player who delivered us the treble in 99.

A really nice guy who just couldn't get a pulse out of the team more than needed at a club of United's stature. This happens in football. Greater coaches such as Jose, LvG, Tuchel, Klopp with great CV's have failed previously and no doubt will happen in the future. Going forward I can't see having the same interim backup team changes much unless Ole went against their opinions. Hope this is very temporary.

There is absolutely no need to trash or call names for a perfectly more than a decent human being for failing at a job. Have a word with yourselves.

Obviously the correct move.

He done a decent job when he came in by improving the mood around the place for both the players and fans. Got shot of some players that should have been gone ages ago, and brought in some decent transfers. The fact of the matter is he should have never been given the job on a permanent basis.

Certainly should have never been here this long, but that's not his fault. That's the fault of the morons at the top. He was clearly not good enough for the job and out of his depth, which is nothing to be ashamed of. Not everyone can be a world class manager capable of taking on the best. Those fecking clowns at the top should have dealt with it a long time ago instead of dicking about and hoping for the best.

Anyway, good luck to him. Nothing personal against him at all.

And how the feck Carrick remains in place is beyond me.

Let's just hope they get the next appointment right.

Ole should be given more credit for the time he's had at the helm. I personally feel a midfielder summer gone would have been more beneficial to the team than Sancho and Ronaldo.

Ultimately I feel he was missing something though, I don't believe we'd ever get further than challenging for the top with him in charge so the decision is the correct one.

Right decision, even if it is likely a little to late. Best of luck to him for the future, and he will always be a club legend.

Now hopefully, we can bring in someone who has a clear style and intent, who can coach this group of players into a working system. If we can build a proper system we have the funds to actually get the right players to make it excel. Though odds are we mess up the next appointment as well sadly.

Carrick interim
Carrick. Hmmm…even as an interim before an interim, this concerns me. After seeing the two of them gazing at the pitch, puzzled and vacant, I fear it’s going to be more of the same. Hope it’s a very short term.

Gutted but relieved and somewhat excited all in the one.

Should really have been after the Europa League final to be honest, should have been clear after that display that Ole had reached his level and it wasnt going to get better.

Im surprised in a way that the board actually pulled the trigger and didnt put the shit result at Watford down to two injury time goals while we were chasing the game heroically with 10 men.

We can all hopefully go back to celebrating Oles legendary status as a player now.

As for whats next who honestly knows?
The wording of the statement implies that we have someone lined up for the summer (Ten Hag hopefully although my feeling is Rodgers) while hopefully we get an interim manager who actually knows what they are doing.

Carrick should have gone since Jose departure. I really find it hard how this board even think.

Agreed.
Rui Faria was Jose's assistant and we finished 2nd in the league.
The next year Carrick and McKenna took over and Jose got fired 5 months later.
And now these 2 have got Ole fired.
This incompetent board can't see this.

Agree with this. I wanted him out but he's clearly a good guy and he loves United. No need for name-calling and gloating.

We don't have anybody lined up.
The board have had their head in the sand while all the bad results have been coming in and the fans were demanding changes.
Now the board made the change, they need 7 months to come up with a plan to change the manager.
Spurs needed just a few days to fire the existing manager and replace him with Conte, a serial winner.
We need 7 months!

He did a decent job until the last few weeks of last season. Things have been mainly dire since then and it was time for a change. The team is playing worse than at any time since SAF but, if we can look past that, Ole leaves the club in a better state than he found it.

God speed, Ole. You lived the dream, even if the joy went away in the end.

I’m so relieved that the club has come to this inevitable decision. Not just for the best interests of the team for the near future but because Ole is a hero at this club, he should be held in the utmost highest regard by the supporters but recent months have been extremely difficult for everyone involved with the club, I’m happy that from here I can see Ole as the wonderful player he was, the bright spark who took the helm from Jose and not the manager from this season.

A big thank you for what he has done for the hard work he has put in to this club over the past few years. Never once doubted he tried his hardest to do what was best for the club and has managed to somewhat rejuvenate the squad. A big thank you for some memorable moments, some excellent wins over City (home 2020, when Scott scored was the loudest I’ve ever screamed for a goal) and most of all that night in Paris.

Unfortunately for him, he helped raise the expectations but didn’t have what it took to meet them. I do believe Ole had a vision for what he wanted on the pitch, but not sure he actually knew what it was himself, it ultimately transpired on the pitch with confused tactics and lack of direction which has led to our confidence crushed and his demise.

This is a damning indictment on the board that they have allowed this situation to fester for too long. We shouldn’t have ever been in a position where we were turning on a club legend, it’s all been badly handled because they don’t understand the game or they just refuse to because of their own interests.

Thanks for everything Ole. We are still fecked, though. Zidane doesn’t want to come. Obvious that we are going for Rodgers in the summer. Would be yet another disgraceful appointment.

Solskjaer will be remembered as a manager who took over a team that was broken and gave life into it. He did his best, we have shown progress over 2 years but now his methods didn’t work as We would like. There are to many Instagramians and pretenders in our team and finally they let the club down. And the manager. Exactly what they did with VanGaal and Mourinho.
While I hope for a ”new manager” bounce the long term problems are still there. Players that don’t care when they decide to not care.

New manager need to be given time.

Would you rather we'd won yesterday and Ole was still in charge?
You don't make managerial decisions on short term results. It's the progression of on-filed performances over a longer period of time. Even if the Watford result was positive it was quite obvious the team needed a change of direction. Fans in my opinion are getting this wrong wishing negative results. Obviously, the board needs to be proactive and should not have let this get this bad before acting.

It's a messy and sad ending, I've been super critical of Ole for a long time now. For most of 2021 we've been poor and inconsistent, ever since we went top of the table last season. I don't know how we extended his contract in the summer, the writing was on the wall for large parts of last season for me.

Regardless of my feelings on Ole as manager, he has dedicated a huge chunk of his adult life to Manchester United, and should be recognised for the work he has done as such. He seems a good guy, and always willing to throw himself on the tracks for the club. It's a pity, but in reality we should point the finger at the people who handed him the keys to the kingdom.

I am certain nobody wanted to succeed in this role more than Ole, and I'm also certain these losses have hurt him more than anyone else. This appointment, the road we have gone down since sacking Mourinho was too full of sentiment and emotion, too much mentioning of bringing back the glory days.

It's time for the board to finally do their job and find someone to bring us on a new path.

Thanks for everything Ole. We are still fecked, though. Zidane doesn’t want to come. Obvious that we are going for Rodgers in the summer. Would be yet another disgraceful appointment.
Zidane's wife doesn't want to come to Manchester.

You guys are insufferable, now Carrick is the hate figure? Be happy with one win and let's see what's next. Damn is this how you guys approach personal life issues? I hope not.

Hopefully Carrick will be next out the door when the new man is put in place. He's not the entire issue at united but he's certainly a part of it. Two failed managerial appointments with Carrick involved and still he's in a job for the time being. We really need to drop this romantic notion that just because he was a good player it doesn't make him a good coach.

Well said.

Have any players posted anything on social media after the game? Certainly no one after he was sacked...I wonder who will be the first?

Very delayed in what should have been a straightforward decision after Leicester’s, or at worst case Liverpool’s match.

Bad part is that we don’t have an interim manager in place already. Even worse it is Carrick being the current interim.

Well put. This post should be pinned to the forum homepage.
