You know it makes sense.

Now that we're almost certain to let Owen go in the Summer when his contract runs out and Berbatov should go as well, we will need another reliable forward. With Rooney still in his mid-20s and Welbeck and Hernandez in their early 20s it'd preferably be someone with slightly more experience.

Raul's contract at Schalke is up and he won't renew it as they won't offer him €6m that he currently earns as Real won't subside his salary anymore. He's done very well for them these past few years and has always been a class player. He could still come in and score a few when called upon.

Buy him.

He would be a class acquisition as well.

Imagine us lining up with Giggs, Scholes and Del Piero/Raul next season.

You must have a thing for older men or something.

Why would we be bringing in a player in the twilight of his career when we already have enough of those on our books to teach the next gen all they need to know about the game?

What can Raul teach about the game that Giggs, Scholes or Rio can't?

Why would we need another striker on our books when we have enough of them?

Why wouldn't we be looking toward a bright young creative talent rather than a player with 1-2 years max left in the game?

Why?............Just why?...........................................

He'll be on silly wages i'd say, which i can't see the club being prepared to pay for a squad player. The club will surely need to make savings in this area following the most recent financial figures released (which is why Berbatov and Owen will most likely leave). If he leaves Schalke i could see him headin to the Middle East or America.

Berbatov is probably on around £4m a year and Owen most likely pays for the privilege to be here so if we're looking at saving money then you're right.

I'd bring in Del Piero if I was getting an older player. No idea if he'd offer any more than Owen anymore, but he's always been my favourite non-United player. Been a dream of mine to see him playing here.

Not that it would happen.

I honestly wouldn't mind, if he'll be happy with what could be a bit part role. You don't lose his class on the ball, we'd need a fourth striker, preferably an experienced one rather than another youngster who needs plenty of pitch time, and probably wouldn't want to invest too much. With Fergie's tendency to sign the odd older player he really liked for a long time, it's not impossible.

He's supposedly leaving Juventus at the end of season anyway so we have a chance.

If we're getting rid of Berbatov because we want to play a quicker game then I don't see where Del Piero or Raul fit in. Certainly wouldn't complain but I just think it's highly unlikely. Although I thought the same about Owen too.

And not likely to happen either, he wants to continue at the club after his playing days are soon over...The Juve legend has only played at the Turin club

Don't we have some young strikers coming through the ranks who fill in as 4th choice strikers?

We may well want someone with more experience, also that we can send the youngsters out on loan.

Obviously if one of the two older names mentioned here wants a mega contract, there's very little to talk about. But if he's willing to settle for far lower wages for the chance to play at a top club in England and do something a little different before he retires, I don't see why not.

False, he was signed from Padova as a 19-year old and is likely to leave Juventus and Italy at the end of season.

Some people just don't understand what talent is and that some players are born with something extra. Yes you can have a young player, but he will only have that as a plus on Raul - and then nevermind the skills? Of course he would offer a lot + he would open a new dimension on the spanish market for us. Perhaps it would help leading the way for other spanish players to join man utd - after all they seem to produce a lot of talent there.

Raúl would never join. He left Real because he wanted to play first team football. There's a reason he's at Schalke. Young team with promise. He could have joined a bigger team but not with a lot of guaranteed playtime. That's what he's in for.

We could loan Rooney to Atletico and Hernandez to Borussia for a year then.

Do I?

100k per week for a 34 year old bit part player!

Doesn't actually make any sense at all.

Heard he was one of the reasons for the poor morale at Madrid.

I like Raul as much as the next guy, but why on Earth would he come to United to play in a handful of Carling cup games?

I thought he would head to the US. But a guaranteed four year contract at his age at inflated wages is an acceptable alternative. Sad though as he can still contribute to the best teams as evident this season.
