Odion Ighalo

I'd take a short term fix any day if it helped us secure champions league football. Not saying that should be Ighalo but I wouldn't turn it down.

Martial is bound to pick up an injury at some point. What then?

I dare say any player who can bring anywhere near the same quality as Martial wouldn't be considered short term in any case.

Regardless, I don't think Ighalo is the right guy. Anyone expecting him to come here and bang in the goals will be in for a rude shock.

I haven't watched Watford much but from what I've heard and been told he's been pretty impressive up top for them with Deeney. Is he good enough for United?
I'll translate that to, does he score more goals than Rooney? Or, is he faster than Rooney?

If the answer to either of them is yes then surely he'd improve us. Is he the long term answer? I don't know but we need goals to get us through to a top 4 finish at the end of the season.

Martial is both of those and yet it's Rooney who plays up front for us while the poor kid gets shunted out wide. Will Ighalo's form this season be enough for him to take over Rooney's position in the starting XI? I doubt it, at least until LVG is managing us.

Things that would score more than Rooney:

Snails
Whales
Rocks
Bobby Charlton
Lemmy
My right butt cheek
A sofa
rubber plants
Water coolers.

I think he would be a great acquisition for United. My only concern would be the van Gaal effect i.e. turning great players into mediocre ones. One goal against Swansea will not paper over the cracks of a largely ineffective Rooney. Ighalo and Martial up front would be a real handful for most teams.

It would be a bit harsh on Watford who definitely need him to consolidate their Premier League status so I say one for the summer....if indeed he is available.

Like this guy, might not be the superstar name most fans want to see in their team but he is a damn good grafter.
I made this point about Sanchez(I know he WC) and how such players help set the pace or tempo of play in the final third. The disruption they cause allows other players time and space to make things happen. He might not transfer his goal scoring form to a bigger club but we've all seen the slight difference it's made now that Rooney is started running around like a lunatic again.

Incredibly player. Exactly what we need. Would Watford sell? I'm not so sure.

I really, really want him at United.

But only because everyone in my fantasy football league has him apart from me.

If he joined us he would simply stop scoring.

No thanks. Flash in the pan like Vardy

have you watched Vardy lately?

Even the game against Bournmouth where he didn't score he looked really good and much more than just a player with confidence - I thought he was nothing but a thug last season but I have to say he has shown much more than just determination and workrate - his touch has been great, makes intelligent runs and his finishing is very decent - I'm not sure Vardy will be flash in the pan and I wouldn't be surprised if he scores 15/20 goals for the next few seasons

Would people still want him for the £25m it would cost to buy him? He has 4 years left on his 5 year contract, and Watford rejected £11m plus add ons for Deeney when they were in the championship. If they avoid relegation this season (highly likely) then with the new windfall of money next season Watford wouldn't need to sell for any less?

I'm not too sure about him yet. The main thing is that he scores goals, though. We either risk it and sign him in the Jan/Summer, or wait until he possibly has another great season at Watford (providing no one else has gone in for him) and pay 30 plus million for him.

He's good at creating space in the box which is something we've been lacking, worth a punt for the right price IMO. Would provide a good squad option.

No he wasn't, injuries aside, he had a 1 in 3 strike rate. The guy couldn't score a one on one to save his life, remember thinking each time he was one on one that he would miss and 9/10 he did. His penalties weren't all that great either.

I remember him having an amazing season in the championship for Fulham before he joined us but he was by no means awesome during his time. Not even close.

Not how I remember it at all. He was brilliant for us until the injuries ruined him.

I'd take him. Could be a shrewd Saha-like signing. He's very impressive in the box, a proper number 9

He is having a good season. However, I would prefer to wait and sign someone like Lukaku, Kane or Aubameyang.

Ighalo is going to be cheaper but I think he is the kind of player who could go to Everton/Tottenham to replace one of their strikers. If Martial is going to play as our main striker and we need a squad player to rotate with him (and maybe Rooney). Then, I think he could be a good signing.

I agree and I think that's what most posters here are expecting. Not likely to develop into a world class player, but we are crying out for some competition for Rooney -- especially now that Martial is doing so well on the left. Rooney will hopefully leave in the summer, and then we can bring in a top striker.

How many players have moved up after one or two good seasons as opposed to those who didn't? If managed properly then he could flourish. United signed Yorke when he was 27. Andy Cole moved up and did very well but he was signed after scoring 34 goals and continuing a similar form for Newcastle the season after.

Personally I think it's way to early to sign him. The only pressure he's under is from himself. The Manchester United environment is totally different beast and he'll feel that right away. He still has to compete with Europe's Golden Boy and and an almost undroppable Rooney. The club has to sign someone but I'd prefer they'd go for a real target if they're to go for anyone at all rather than a punt/stop gap.

So this guy would put Herrera out of the team, and Rooney moved back. Unless he can play RW? Then Mata would be in trouble. But I agree this signing would be more than a bit Liverpoolesque.

He's better than Ings

Players we should sign/are missing as far as I am concerned either now or in the summer are a top top quality attacking player in the mould of Bale or so, none of that nonsense with Mane or whoever as we've got plenty promising players as it is in Memphis, Lingard, and Januzaj. A back up striker to Martial as I think he should be our number 9 and a midfielder if Carrick is retiring. Ighalo seems like a good fit for that second signing to me and there are not many who are good enough to play for us but at the same time not big enough to demand a starting position ahead of Martial.
