Noussair Mazraoui | Welcome to United

Got a good feeling about this one think he will quickly establish himself as a good player

Nice! Hopefully turns out to be a good signing for the club. It will be odd to have out alternate right bavk be an attacking option rather than a super defensive one.

I expect he may have to play immediately too with the Luke Shaw news. Dalot moving to left back now. Let's hope he hits the ground running and puts the fitness fears to bed.

I'm wary of his injury record, but he is a quality player. So welcome, Mazraoui, please stay injury-free.

Looking forward to seeing him play.
Watched him at Ajax and I remember being a bit gutted when he went to Bayern so easily.

Mazza is not a great defender, but as an attacking back he formed a fascinating couple with Antony at Ajax. Together they really could tear defences apart on the right wing with their combinations. Also in the Champions League. I suppose Antony will be glad his buddy is back.

Well I know almost nothing about him including how to spell or pronounce his name, but he is a fullback which automatically makes him an improvement on what we have (which is to play lindelof there and pray).

I wonder where he is going to play while we have no healthy, senior left back

I have heard that he has played only two games (out of 170+) as a left back and he is much worse left back than a right back. Dalot doesn't have such huge drop off when switching to the other side, and some argue that on the right side Mazraoui is actually very competitive with Dalot, so hopefully Mazraoui plays on the right, and Dalot covers left. I am not sure Erik will see it, that way, however

Wan-Bissaka wasn’t super defensive. Just good at defending (1v1).

The revisionist history we've gotten on AWB this summer when it became apparent we're selling him has been absurd. You'd think we were binning off Carlos Alberto himself with how people talk about AWB defensively as if he wasn't an absolute liability defensively outside of facing off against wingers in direct 1v1 situations. Didn't track back well, horrid aerially, off ball anticipation and positioning was often poor. But I guess that's what happens when much of that stuff isn't as vividly memorable as the incredible slide tackles and shutting down ASM or Mbappe is.

When I said super defensive, I didn't mean he was amazing defensively just that he was far more defensive minded than inclined to go forward. He often looked terrified in the ball. Mazourai should be the opposition. We're not going to be bringing him on for Dalot to shut down the opposition left wing like we may have done with Wan Bissaka.

I understood what you meant, I just didn’t agree with it. He was/is not a defensive minded player just because some of his best qualities were in the defensive side of his game.

Should have number 2 as a RB. And our new future LB the 3
It's always been weird to me how we had Evra as #3 and Gary/Brown as #2. Always thought it should be the other way around, left back #2 and right back #3.

I'll try to avoid the seemingly inevitable disappointment about his injury record, and not expect much from Mazraoui...but if we do manage to fix him, or at least improve his injury record, I really believe he's indisputably up there with the best full-backs in the Premier League, based on ability.

Good luck to him, and #3 looks good on him.

If he can stay fit for 30 games a season and do a better job than AWB in those games, it's all good.

Hopefully this signing brings balance to the team.
We’ve been so heavily dominated in attack on the left that it’s predictable. All key players get drawn to that side to get the ball.

Been eons since we had consistently functioning flanks together. The space created by overloads needs to be exploited and that’s where I feel this signing is crucial.

Another plus is most of our defenders have played together in some shape or form bar Yoro, so might be easier to gel and bond.

He's a LB or RB? I'm confused reading this thread.
He's a RB by trade but he's comfortable playing LB as well.

He played there for 10 matches last season including during 3 of Bayerns biggest matches last season, in the CL knockouts against Arsenal for the 2nd leg and both legs against Madrid.

I have a feeling he is going to have a bigger impact than De Ligt... Just have a feeling.

Time to finally see his YouTube compilations and get excited

Dalot played against City at LB, did a decent job, but I still would actually prefer a natural LB there.

It's just strange to me, we have two RBs comfortable playing LB and no natural LBs. Are we hoping for Shaw to be mostly fit?

Isn't that a bit strange transfer then? We probably should've bought a LB that can play RB.
I understand he'll be Dalot backup?
Mazaroui is not back up to anyone. Each player should be competing tooth and nail for their position in the team. Dalot is not guaranteed anything, he has to fight for his place.

Mazaraoui is clearly a significant technical upgrade on Wan bissaka and can play both sides of the defense very well. He is a good signing.
