Nordic Ghost Yeti (Scandi Carroll) | Haaland at City

They do when you have to change your whole way of playing to accommodate them.
They didn't change their whole way of playing though. That's a pure myth, the main reason is that they have struggled defensively in comparison to previous years. That's what it's all about. Not Haaland, that's a myth people really wanna believe

Failure to lure him to United when we could will remain Ole's biggest failing. I know this thread likes to revel in his off games, but he's up there with Mbappe as the heir apparent to the Messi Ronaldo era for a reason.

In fairness Ole did tell the club to sign him when he was 16.

Its fairly well known that the deciding factor was the release clause which the club did not agree to. Thats not on Ole.

Haaland is scoring against everyone. Even when he is on the "lesser" team.

He has more goals than games for Norway.

And he scored against everyone in the Champions league when he played for Dortmund and Salzburg.

Nah, close though. 23 games, 21 goals. Helped by playing against utter shite like Gibraltar, Armenia, Latvia, Northern Ireland, Romania etc

Haha. Yeah, if you watch Norway, you quickly realise he's primarily to blame for that. The achilles heel of that otherwise dominant side.

Gareth Bale basically single handedly carried Wales to multiple tournaments including our first World Cup in forever. Norway's 'base level' is a good bit better than Wales. if Haaland is as good as the numbers imply he is and the people in this thread keep saying he is, he should easily be able to do likewise.

Norway is not significantly better than Wales.

The copium in here can fund a colony on Mars at this point

Actually the last time we played at a tournament was exactly a month before he was born. We have only ever experienced doom and gloom during his existence.

Yeah. 25 goals in 19 PL games, which no one in the history of the league has ever done before, and you're still prepared to not only think "oh, that's just tap-ins and penalties", but to actually embarass yourself by posting it on a public discussion board. You're hard at work with a hole that has a sign saying "moron" posted over it. I'd stop digging if I were you.

Ole had a lot of managerial failings but not being able to sign Haaland isn’t one them.

Haaland was never going to sign for a club his family supposedly hates.

At the age of 22, Bale had done none of it. Wales didn't qualify for any tournament with him until 2016. Not that I blame him for that, mind.

But I suspect you might be fishing here.

Are you actually twelve?

On topic, though, I'm not saying he's not a good goalscorer. He's an incredible goalscorer. Probably already one of the best ever. So was Ruud van Nistelrooy, and we were better before we had him and better after he left.

If he's that good as a player though, at the Messi/Ronaldo, even Mbappe level that people want to put him at, why are none of the teams he plays or has played for seemingly much/any better while he's playing for them?

The guy is pretty ridiculous, could have been at united and may have never seen him change over to the blue side but our great pride got in the way because our club was supposedly to great at the time to allow for a release clause in his contract.

To be honest the biggest crime wasn't even so much the missed chances of signing as we probably had little chance of competing for his signing due to the real crime of employing two consecutive god awful managers in charge of the club when he was still attainable at molde and Salzburg, why would a young haaland want to join the past it mourinho who had a terrible record with youngsters or a mediocre manager like ole and the fact that both managers have a complete lack of tactical identity or ability to coach players to another level.

I'm actually 53. And you are actually either a moron or a WUM. But your attempt to shift the discussion away from the nonsense you've offered so far to the much more defendable issue of whether he stacks up to Messi (which no one in this exchange has argued) at least implies second thoughts. Good for you. And I've nothing more to add.

If anybody ever needs proof that discussing football online is ultimately pointless, just point them to this thread.

Van Nistilrooy's record for goals in a premier league season is 25. Haaland just tied it with half the season played. RVN - as good as he was - wasn't this good a goalscorer.

To be fair, RVN would have scored a lot more for this City side, as would any striker ever. We were never a 100 goals a season side.

If you don't have an answer, you can just say that instead of continuing to throw your childish insults around.

Yeah, that's fair, he might already be better than RVN. It's more an illustration of how even an elite version of that type of player can rack up plenty of goals without making the team any better, and therefore how great of a player can they actually be?

He's in an ideal situation but that's conjecture. A lot of great strikers played in a lot of great sides and didn't reach anywhere near his totals. Just feels as though it takes away from what he's doing. We are talking about completely shattering the all time Premier League record in a season. Guardiola or not, its still special.

"Norway better than Wales", now i've heard it all.

Aguero didn't score this many for city. Aguero was a top goal scorer.

I mean it is cute that some posters are arguing against Haaland being absolutely amazing but it is all in vane. The guy like exceeded expectations and then some. Only part of body he hasn't scored yet is his dong.

To already conclude he doesn't make them better this early. That's harsh, they could still win the PL, the FA Cup and the CL.

I agree, he will exceed personal expectations but City will not.

He's also failed to qualify for anything with Norway, didn't make Dortmund any better than they were with Paco Alcacer leading the line, and is currently making City a worse side than any other of their recent iterations despite being in line to score about 700 tap ins and penalties for the season.

What kind of bs is this?

Norway hasn't qualified to a WC since 1998, and i don't think they ever played an Euro in my lifetime.

They have no businesses in qualifying to a WC, they still lack quality in GK and defense, which are two important areas when looking to play in a big tournament.

"Norway better than Wales", now i've heard it all.

Before Bale? Yes. Easily. Probably already again now that he's retired. We went 50 years without qualifying for anything.

Even now the player playing at the lowest level in the Norwegian squad plays for the best team in Hungary. We have multiple League One players in every squad we name.

So you are blaming Haaland for Norway leaking goals even against mediocre sides? So they never qualify to an international tournament...

Just say you don't like Haaland, it's easier and more credible than saying stuff like "He should quality mighty Norway to a WC to proof his quality"

Sometimes it's easier to say you just don't like certain player than making up ridiculous arguments to discredit the player.

To be fair I don't blame the club for refusing the release clause imagine Liverpool/City wanted to sign him and there was nothing we could do, we couldn't allow that happen

That was part of a wider point about him not, so far, tangibly improving any of the sides he's played for (at least, Dortmund, City and Norway) to the kind of degree you'd expect for a player who's supposed to be an all-time great in the making. It's not "lol he needs to win the WC with Norway or he's shit".

This is a team that scores significantly more goals and creates a lot more chances than any other English side ever. Hardly conjecture to assume most strikers would score more there than elsewhere. Probably not as many as Haaland, mind.

I tend to find this opinion comes from people who didn't watch us at that time. During ruud's time here Ronaldo and Rooney were promising teenagers, not the world class players they became when he'd left, we didn't have Carrick, often playing djemba djemba in midfield, didn't have vidic and evra until his last 6 months when they were still settling in. Ferdinand served an 8 month ban during his time here, it's a miracle we finished as high in the table as we did while ruud was here. Keane, Beckham, stam all left while he was here. No wonder we were worse than before he was here and after he left, but to attribute it solely to him is totally wrong

He isn't an all time great, what you on about?

I don't even think he is on Mbappe level, but he is definitely one of the best now (top 5 at least), he doesn't need to prove his worth qualifying a mediocre Norway side to a WC.
