Nominations for the Michu-Benteke Award 2013/14

For the Michu award (Cheap but great) - Curtis Davies, (Barry and Lukaku if they count).
For the Benteke award (Bit more expensive but great) - McCarthy, Lovren, Bony maybe.

Not Bony, he's been crap.

EDIT - Mind you, he's scored 20 goals in 41 games this year, not to be sniffed at.

He'd be very good in a better team.

Not entirely sure, a lot of the time he's the reason moves break down. At the same time he can certainly finish with his feet and head

The obvious ones mentioned, also Redmond at Norwich. £2 million up front for a future England international, crazy

Scored against us, city, arse, Liverpool too. I thought he was a bit of a did earlier on but he's done pretty darn well.

Thing with Bony is he often just looks completely uninterested. He's extremely lazy, not particularly proficient in any area technically and isn't particularly quick either but as I put in my edit, he's scored 20 goals this season. Strange one.

I don't rate him at all but his statistics are good, especially for a team like Swansea who don't score many.

We really should have signed McCarthy last summer instead of Fellaini.

I'd lump Benteke in with the first lot to be honest. To sign a striker of his quality for just 7m in this day and age was a masterstroke. They'll get 4 times that when he leaves.

Bony is one of those players that spends all game strolling around, giving the ball away and generally stinking up the place. Then he'll score a goal and people who don't actually watch full games will think he's doing really well.

Bony is a bloody nuisance of a player, and one i'd hate to come up against. He doesn't look overly strong but he knows how to out-strength other players and he'll bag you 20 goals a season (Overall) which is the sign of a good player. He's got 11 in the PL this season, Toure is 3rd in the top scorer list with 17 so he's not that far behind and it's only his first season.

What does overly strong mean? This guy's thighs are probably only rivaled by Elokobi's legs.

He out-strengths player because he's a very muscular dude.

Doesn't look overly strong? He looks like he's wearing one of the suits from Batman Forever!

Maybe it's just me but when he's in his Swansea kit he doesn't look that big. Maybe that is just because i'm used to looking at Lukaku though.

Probably Huddlestone or Bony
Sturridge would be in the obvious choice if your include the January window

Every time I watch Redmond, he looks more promising than Zaha; quicker and more agile, he currently poses more of threat and looks more rounded.

Bony is a brute no question. I had him in my fantasy at that start as I thought he'd be good. Then he looked shit for ages but since Michu has been out he's been very good. 20 goals in all comps is a great return.

Similar enough to Lukaku really.

There have been no Michu's or Benteke's this season, unless this is simply a 'signing of the season' competition where we are listing £20m+ players too. No cheap and unknown players have come in and become amongst the very best in the league like the two in the thread title, you lot are just forcing it now.

Edit: I suppose Lovren has been amongst the best in the league and he cost less than £10m. Just that the title makes me think of attackers.

Top 3 Signings: Fernandinho, Barry (a loan but they'll get him for nothing in the summer), Negredo

Perfect summary really. He does have some nice finishes

Fernandinho: exactly what City needed. The price is immaterial if they win the league.
Sturridge is worth a mention too.

Bony has been a brilliant signing and he is coming good after a slow start. McCarthy, for me, has been the signing of the season.

Fernandinho. Wasn't a household name before he was signed but been instrumental for city this season. We could do with a player like him.

I bet the guy who nominated Ricky van Wolfswinkel regrets that now. Has he still only got the one goal scored like 5 minutes into his debut and nothing else all season?

Yep. I thought he'd be better than that.

Negredo is not in the best 3 signings of the season. There are numerous others that have been better deals.

59% of Premier League managers voted for him as the signing of the season. He has the same amount of goals as Sturridge this season in all competitions and is only 6 behind Suarez in all competitions.

Flamini for me.

That's a good shout. Free transfer, exactly what Arsenal needed in their midfield and probably the only player who looked up for it when they were (still are) on their bad run of form.

I think Huddlestone has been brilliant for Hull as well.

Redmond, Huddlestone, Flamini, Navas, Matic, Lukaku, McCarthy, Willian and others have been better signings. He's a mile behind Suarez and Sturridge has also been much better. Isn't he on a run of something like 10 games without a goal?

Jesus, I've just seen the article where it's pointed out. How on earth is Pellegrini in there ahead of Rodgers and Martinez?

Yeah, it's his worst run for over 4 years which suggests to me it is just an unusual blip. Once he scores next he'll back to his usual self.

Redmond, are you serious? 1 goal in 25 games and he isn't even a regular starter for a relegation threatened Norwich. Navas, again no, he hasn't been as good as Negredo has for us. Matic only signed in January and has had a good start but nothing spectacular. Completely disagree with Willian, he had a slow start and is yet to justify his fee. Flamini has been a good signing but still not on the level as Negredo, same applies for Huddlestone and McCarthy. Lukaku is a loan signing and unless Everton get him permanently then Negredo is the better signing. None of the players you have mentioned have hit the heights of Negredo in his first months with City.

I'll point you back to the Premier League managers vote, 59% said he was the signing of the season. That speaks volumes for me.
