Cleverley better in CM than Giggs? Certainly not yet. I dont think its out of the question for them to play together in certain matches though as Cleverley tends to play a deeper, team oriented, build up play style and can be asked to work hard and track players (seen at Wigan). Carrick will clearly give more protection to the backline though

We might have a good, deep squad (= good back up players) but our best team seriously lacks a top class midfield

I don't think the squad is too thin, we just clearly lack quality in one area. Injuries or whatever, we lost Scholes and we have lost Fletcher for probably the season so what has to happen for us to do something about it?

Forget Citeh. You have teams like Barcelona making the right signings to replace players in a proper way. They are going to get Thiago Silva to replace Puyol long term in the summer. They got Alexis Sanchez and Fabregas the previous summer which already had a midfield of Alcantara,Iniesta,Xavi and Busquets.fecking ridiculous.
We bought Ashley young who on paper hardly improves our wings - a position where we were already quite content with instead of buying a Central midfielder, quite a lot players out there who will improve us and like I predicted , it becomes an absolute fecking necessity when the injuries take place.
You need to bring in quality to replace quality. No one can fill in Scholesy's boots. But, I think SAF has to spend whatever necessary to fill in the void of one of the best midfielders to have ever played the game. Yes, Cleverly has looked great whenever he played but he's injured now and it's lost points like these that will make the premier league title race more difficult.

Apart from when we have a central defender crisis, like we have had, he wouldn't. No point spending £7m on a stop-gap for a month.
