Gaming Nintendo Switch

I've been hooked on Stardew Valley. It's a pretty strange game but I'm getting an unlikely satisfaction from farming vegetables.

tbh i'm a bit baffled that so many people haven't bought Zelda, I mean what the hell? I remember reading that early on Zelda had actually outsold the Switch or something.
It is a bit surprising it hasn't sold more, but it shows how many people probably bought the console for Mario Odyssey and Splatoon 2, and decided to get Mario Kart instead or as part of a bundle. Breath of the Wild has sold over 1.3million copies on the Wii U, however, which is pretty good as well considering the competition from Switch and low install base of the Wii U (that's somewhere in the region of a 10% attach rate on Wii U, which would normally be good for a 4-6 year old console). Puts BotW at over 8million sales total when you combine the two.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has almost outsold Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U already as well which is amazing, considering it's a port of an older game.

I love my Wii-U.

I wonder if they port Mario 3D world to the Switch, due to the popularity?

I mean, i would love that 'cause i never got to play it since i didn't own a Wii U. I wonder how far they can push this porting thing though. I have no problem with it really, but i know a lot of people don't take too kindly to porting everything over to a new console.

They've got a few ports now and there's more on the way. Just wonder how far they can push it.

Exactly how I feel. There's got to be a balance.

Long story short on Lost Sphear:
Wannabe FF2 chat-memoir mixed with wannabe Chrono Trigger battle-system.
While emulating the already disliked FF2 chat-memoir system is easily done and they've done it relatively well, it's still disliked.
Their ways of making a battle-system similar to the Chrono Trigger system however is put off by the fact that the mechanics don't seem fun.
With Chrono Trigger for example you'd mix and mash to find good combos between characters and skills, here you really just find a skill that hits in a line or a bigger circle and target as many enemies as possible.

Story-wise it's ok. But far from great as I saw one review claim on youtube.
Not worth the money unless you are desperate for any mobile jrpg.

I could play tonight, what time?

How does FIFA play on this thing? My flatmate's adamant we need to get it, but I said I wanted to figure out whether it was good on the Switch first. I'd only use it for local multiplayer.

I've been sucked into fortnite way too much lately, so Splatoon and MK8 have fallen by the wayside for months. Still, I'm interested in jumping back in and whooping some of you newbs.

He says trying to be brave but being actually rather scared : (

Odyssey is great but I don't think it's a 10/10. I think that's just Mario nostalgia kicking in for people. The worlds are very hit and miss. It is a solid 8.5-9/10 though.

Also the main story is rather short and while some exploring is fun, I'm not sure why I should spend twenty more hours looking for moons, it just seems a bit pointless.

yeah you'd have to be seriously dedicated to the game to go get all the moons. some of 'em seem to be really obscure and difficult to find. I'm not really bothered about trying to get any outside of the main story and mini games.

I do wish the story was longer. I don't normally wish for that in games, I don't have enough time to spend 100 hours in an open world RPG and quality>quantity, but SMO was so freaking fun I never wanted it to end. That said I do intend on collected at least most of the moons, which I'm still no where near.

I caved in and impulse purchased MK8D. I'm actually a little disappointed everything is unlocked straight away, it really just makes it feel like I've paid for a game I already owned on the Wii U. But hey, its a full MK game I can take with me anywhere and the new battle modes are kind of cool. Just need someone online to play with now :(

I'll play online with you. @Olly and @Snowjoe promised me but they are liars and deceivers so feck them.

Just want to say that 2 days ago my daughter 100 percented Mario Odyssey. I'm even more amazed how nerd proud I am of her.

It’s the best Mario game since 64 and the SNES Super Mario World, which puts it in the echelon just below Mario Bros 3, which is of course the Greatest Game of All Time.

8.5? Pfft...

So can the Switch be played solely in handheld mode (without losing out on game experience)? Realistically I know I wont get anywhere near a TV for 90% of the week and my PS4 is just gathering dust (also fed up of them since they blocked me from making purchases online with my cards).

I'd say yes.

I have Mario Odyssey, Mario Rabbids, Mario Kart and Zelda and love them all and haven't even unpacked the dock.

100% handheld play so far and am loving it - the flexibility is fantastic.

Sounds good, how long have you had it?

I only got it for Christmas, so 6 weeks or so.

Honestly though, Nintendo have knocked it out of the park - I'm really pleased with it.

I have a ps4 but have only used it for Netflix for over 6 months, whereas the Switch offers the flexibility of taking it to work, playing on the sofa whilst the missus is watching tv, in bed if you cant sleep. So many options.

I didn't realize I needed it until I had it.

Mario or Xenoblades, which one should I pick?

Depends what you’re after, Mario is well, Mario. It’s a great game, maybe a little overhyped but I enjoyed every second of it and there’s some great moments in it.

Xenoblade is an acquired taste I think, lots of anime tropes, story that really isn’t that great yet still sucked me right in. It also does a terrible job at explaining the combat system and the first 10 hours can definitely drag a bit. That being said it’s probably my favourite game I’ve played in the last 5 years and I’ve put 350 hours into it

Also I’d like to add my name to the Celeste bandwagon. It’s awesome. Old fashioned hard platforming, but just as you’re about to give up you somehow find a way to complete that little section, controls and level design are awesome.

@Olly have you played it yet?

Ive had mine since january the 2nd.

Its not been used since january the 5th.

Bayonetta arrived on friday, not plugged it in yet, been too busy with Monster Hunter world and Warframe on PS4.

Theres just so many brilliant games on the PS4, i dont know what i was thinking buying a switch.

I exagerrate, i think i played a couple of hours of Zelda in the second week of January, but then I got caught up with the plains of eidelon and building new operator amps and Zaws.

Nope not yet, I'm going to get Axiom Verge next. Celeste will come later though as it looks great.
