Niall Quinn Statue Unveilled, Cristiano Ronaldo attends

Why couldn't he do this the first time?

I don't think it looks like Ronaldo though does it? While the first one was an abomination you can still see that it tries to resemble Ronaldo. The 2nd one just looks like some random person imo.

It looks like how Cristiano Ronaldo would look like if he was a character in the game Fortnite.

To be fair though, it's a massive improvement on the John Arne Riise one he did previously. If anyone hasn't seen it yet, watch the 10 minute clip attached to the Tweet. Turns out the guy is a hobbiest, did the bust because he worked at the airport and he heard they were changing the name to the Ronaldo airport, saw his chance to do something positive. He also suggests Ronaldo had an input on the bust and he would have done it differently if he wasn't trying to please other people.

Uncanny

It might not be the best likeness but it looks more like Ronaldo than the first one, and more importantly it looks more like a human being that hasn't been in some horrible accident thats left their face disfigured.

To be fair the raw material looked more like Ronaldo than the first one.

The first one definitely captured the essence of Ronaldo during that transformative phase between goofy, pimply teenager to the model and football icon in his mid twenties. And the pure amusement and joy in that growth is captured so well.

The second statue is like a face scanned CGI model for likeness.

That's the difference between lasting art and the stuff they put up in hotels.

After having watched the last part of the video where they show the 2nd one, I'll admit that it does look more like him than the picture in the tweet shows, and that it actually looks human is of course a big plus as well. But no matter how handsome the real man is I'm still not sure that the 2nd looks more like Ronaldo than the first.. Though if I were Ronaldo I would be extremely happy if they decide to swap them out.

I don't know if it's that much better. It's just a statue of a more handsome but equally unfamiliar man.

I think its a decent likeness. Its not a great statue but the guy who made them obviously isnt the best sculptor so its an improvement at least.

With todays technology thats exactly what they should be doing instead of making weird abstract abominations. Statues are supposed to look like the person they represent.

The difference between these 2 is so much nobody would believe those 2 statues are of same person. And the problem is neither looks like Ronaldo.

Watched the 10 minutes video which is part of that tweet. Never really thought how this affected the sculptor. Poor guy sculpts as a hobby. The internet can be a really nasty place and affect someone in a way we never realize. The whole World laughed at his work. It could have broken the man but he accepted the challenge and built a new bust which is definitely much better. I certainly see the resemblance with Ronaldo. As the sculptor said, it is art not science and doesn't have to be 100% like Ronaldo. Feeling happy for the artist.

I just watched it too and i do feel sorry for him now as well seeing as it's only his hobby and he's not a professional. I think sometimes people need to be protected from themselves though, it's great that he was so enthusiastic but there was always going to be a lot of eyes on this Bust from around the world. Obviously the people at the airport will have seen it before it was unveiled and theres no way they all thought ''Oh wow this is amazing''. They really should have asked him to redo it before it got to the stage where the guy was being criticized.

Having said that though in the video it shows you the statue in clay and it does look slightly better than the finished product. So it's possible that something got fecked up in the bronzing process.

No offense, but how can you not laugh when seeing that? I have respect for the guy for trying again though.

The truth is between the 1st and 2nd attempts. The 1st isnt quite as bad as the meme patrol wanted to make out but certainly far from perfect. The 2nd looks like a generic attempt at masking Ronaldo's imperfections and giving him what someone would like to see in a statue of themselves - fantasy/perfection. So yeah somewhere between the 1st and 2nd is the real Ronaldo.

This is what happens when people use cost as a main factor in choosing who does something
