NFL Thread

Oh Pete Carroll. Worst decision since throwing on the one yard line.

NFL is now totally a game of offence and any coach who takes defensive decisions can't succeed in this league

4th and 1, when you've been getting yards all game with the run, and you punt?

Absolute fanny.

Brees gets the all time passing record with a too good to be true 62yd touchdown pass completion. Not a Redskin in frame for the catch. Ref whips out a certificate.

Hmmm.

Edit: also one of the all time commentaries: "I think they'll end up ruling that incomplete. You can see it starts to come out before he gets his third foot down"

Big fan of Drew Brees, passed that mark still looking absolutely mint too, since Favre was shot when he took, Peyton scrambled over the line.....Brees could easily take it to 80k. Endless credit goes to Brady for his ageing, but Brees is casually ageing like a fine wine too, while as the yardage proves, having yards from from the arm.

Does need that second Superbowl though, as does Rodgers. Man, what an absolute golden generation they've been.

Just catching up with the games

The poor jets guy who ran it over a hundred yards on the pick only to be downed at the 1
Think they said at the time it was the longest return after INT that didn't end up as a TD

Seattle looked alright this week, I'm really excited to go to the game this weekend!

Was Marino really better than Rodgers?

They aren't really the same sort of QB. Marino was a pure gunslinger like Fouts before him and Favre after him. He probably had the best arm and quickest release in NFL history. Rodgers is more mobile and accurate in terms of rating and if we're comparing QBs from different eras, would be stylistically more similar to Elway.

Marino was better than Montana and Elway, and the bit you said (that I've bolded) is spot on. However Rodgers has the better arm in my book, a product of the general quarterback skill improvement in the last twenty years. Rodgers is the best quarterback I've ever watched, but I thought the same about Marino for a while. I suspect many will be better than Rodgers in the years to come in the same fashion.

Can you really compare Quarterbacks now with quarterbacks from previous eras?

The protection quarterbacks get now surely makes comparisons mute

Through stats and other things like that? Absolutely not. But it is obvious as time passes players are stronger and faster, have much better conditioning, much more focused training etc. It is unfair to compare different eras for sure, because the most latest crop will always be the best. You are also right to bring up rule changes which help considerably to inflate stats.

"Best arm" is generally synonymous with having a strong arm - and less so with accuracy or finesse.

Philly only barely favourites againt the Giants tonight, interesting
Not that surprising I guess considering their offence was already struggling before Ajayi's injury. Will be interesting to see if the Giants improvement against the Panthers was a sign of things to come or a one off.

Seems to be a bit of talk about Chad Kelly getting put in for Denver. @Carolina Red @Organic Potatoes.

Probably just media guff for now, but Joseph has apparently said "everything is being considered", so who knows. Personally I'd say feck it, why not see what he's got.

Around the NFL pod do this accountable hot takes thing and after 2 weeks one of them said that Fitzpatrick won't be the starter after Bucs bye week and he was bang on . This week one of them said that Joseph or keenum will lose their job by end of October and I think he will be right again

If Joseph gets fired I'm having a party.

Coming off 377 yards and a 95 passer rating, if I were Keenum and they did that, I’d ask for a trade and steal the playbook.
