NFL Thread 2019

How?! Kick the point & you need a TD & FG. Now you need 2 TDs

I'm on my phone but it's the same logic as being down 14 and going for 2 after the first score.

Basically a 2 point conversion is 50%. So if you make the first one you just kick the extra point and take the lead next time. If you miss you go for it again. And since it's a 50% chance you expect to make 1 of those and tie it up.

(In this game you are assuming another field goal but like I said, same logic)

More often than not, coaches aren't opting for that logic. There's more to lose, especially if the 2 pt conversion play is some spread lineup pass.

When you say it like that...

How did the Ravens receiver catch that!! Wow!!

Thought that was a nailed on interception

Denver need to feck this season off now and start thinking about the future. This team is bad.

Wouldn't be surprised to see some big names traded away now.

Slater

Possibly the best special teams player in the league.

In most of being down 14, a TD + kick is the option that gets called more often and for good reason. Putting so much risk on your team just for a meager potential 1 point lead isn't worth potentially going down and having to rely on a third score. In other words, going for 2 in that situation was dumb. It was especially dumb with the eventual play call.

@Eboue now they're down 8 and will have a lot of pressure to convert a 2pt. Had they opted for the kick, they could tie it with a TD + kick.

It's not more risk as I explained above. Its playing to be in the game longer rather than play to win. Most nfl coaches dont understand probabilities. I dont know if you remember but about 10 years ago the Patriots had a 3 point lead on the Colts in Indianapolis on sunday night. It was 4th and 2 on their own 28 with about 3 minutes to go. Brady threw a flat to the right to Welker and he was a few inches short of the first down. The colts scored and won the game. (This is all from memory so excuse any missed details.)

The media pilloried belichick but he understood probabilities and didnt just stick to received wisdom. He knew that "well you punt it away and let your defense win it" wasnt a great option against prime peyton manning in a dome. He bet on brady to gain 2 yards. It was the right move it just didnt work out. Anyway this is a digression but doing things the way theyve always been done doesnt make them right.

You'd think with the weapons the Ravens have a 2pt shouldnt be a problem for them.

Interesting call by Philly... Had 3 TOs & 2min warning too

I agree with eboue
Esp with the number of PAT misses
Well they have Justin Tucker which is becoming a cheat code at this point, but yeah, probability wise it's the right move to do that.
