NFL Thread 2014-2015

Season long ban for smoking weed.
2 game suspension for domestic abuse.

Ok Goodell.

Totally different scenarios. The comparison doesn't apply.

What ? How ?

There is such a disconnect between the gravity of the crime and punishment.

Why is Adderall worth 4 games, but assault is half of that.

I'm assuming that in referring to a season long ban, that you're talking about Josh Gordon, who is a habitual drug offender. This is his third offense at the very least. No one has been banned for a season off a first time offense. Plus, drugs are frowned upon in sports, as it actively impacts the players and the sport. Aggravated assault as a first time offense doesn't come close to what Gordon did. Goodell isn't the type to shy away from coming down hard with bans and fines on players, and he knows more about the situation than the average joe.

I sure as hell don't. Sports team names are chosen to reflect/instill pride. There's not a thing detrimental about them.

Some of them, sure. The Sioux and the Seminoles are treated respectfully and embraced by the university. The Redskins is different, it's a caricature. Like the Cleveland Indians too.

Only if they win the division. I'm not convinced by the Giant's personnel moves and OC change this off-season. The Cowboys shall forever be the Cowboys, and I don't think Nick Foles has the capability to take the Eagles far. There's a small chance the Redskins can surprise everyone, win their division games, and do enough against the cannon fodder in the league.

They aren't getting in through a wild card. No one is, from the NFC East.

Not just Gordon, even Washington faces the season off for violating the substance policy just twice. And it's not just about players' accountability to their organisations is it ? It's about setting dangerous precedents and sending out the wrong kind of message. Why is smoking a recreational drug a greater crime than assault ? Is this what they wanna convey to future pros and the younger fans ? Kids knock your wife/ girlfriend unconscious, it's ok, no big deal only 2 games off without pay.. But don't you go smoking weed (like more than half of the general public have done at some point of their lives). This is a serious problem within the system that needs to be addressed. Guess the real litmus test will be Hardy and what Goodell or the Panthers do with him.

So regarding Lynch's contract dispute, what's the likely outcome? Do these things ever end up in the player moving? Turbin looks like a monster too.

Rarely. Unlike European football, players have little power in American sports as far as switching teams. Also, the NFL is different from other pro sports in that contracts aren't guaranteed. Most likely, he'll show up after missing most of training camp. He's still in the middle of a 4-yr $31 million contract signed in 2012. Can't see him going anywhere, and he won't sit out the season which means kissing goodbye his $5 million due this upcoming year.

Thanks for that, good news.

It's only pre-season, but NFL is back

Not really followed much of the off-season stuff since the draft. Can't wait to see the Pats, hopefully Gronk stays fit this season.

started following the NFL a bit last year, still figuring out how some of the rules work but enjoyed watching the games I saw & the Superbowl, probably watch more of it this year if it's on Sky again

The Indians should have Ghandi as their mascost TBF. Indian is just a misapplied name because some European explorers had no idea where they were.

Just got red zone on SS2 for the preseason games, it's great. If I recall, we can't get it in HD during the regular season in the UK?

It's not HD but I wish it was. Think there's some restrictions with their service which prevent HD being made available on the red button.

Since cancelling sky sports I am going to struggle for coverage of the niners this year unless a kind soul can pm with me with details of a reliable NFL streaming service. If it's illegal I won't use it of course, I will simply report it to the correct authorities

Bradford's torn his ACL again and out for the season, got to feel for both him and the Rams thought they would have a very good season this year

$14 million man! $14 fecking million thrown down the drain because of the organization's reluctance to part ways with him this offseason and he goes ahead and tears his ACL in the final preseason game. Even if they want to bring another QB in, its practically impossible to do it without paying a ransom and the new guy would need 4 - 6 games just to get familiar with the offensive playbook.

On top of that they have the 5th toughest schedule in the NFL.

He's also 34 and if he picks a knock, its down to a 6th round pick and it gets ugly. Best scenario is that the quarterback crop for next season is pretty damn good if they lose as many games as they should.

Its not cheap but Game Pass is worth every penny. I'd definitely report anyone getting a VPN and signing up for it for free.

Apparently Logan Mankins has been traded to the Buccaneers.

Didn't see that coming.

The Mankins trade is very strange. Quite surprising for it to happen and happen so close to the start of the season.

Cap casualty. Probably for Revis' extension.
