NFL Thread 2014-2015

Up to the playoffs, sure. He'll probably balls things up again come January, though.

Apparently Ridley and Mayo are gone for the season for the Patriots. Sheeeeeeiit.

Ffs!

Great win against the Rams.

Kap throwing for over 300 yards and 3 TDs - including an insane throw to Boldin.

Crabtree's TD was a fantastic route - loved how he sold the moves with his head movements:

Add in Kap's longest TD play of his career - an 80 yard play to close the first half to Lloyd - and am v happy with the win.

I am concerned over how we couldn't put the game away - I think we punted on 4 out of 5 of our last drives, which isn't good enough against better teams (such as Denver who we play next.....). In saying that, we should have had another TD when Kap threw to McDonald who was open in the end zone - only for Vernon Davis to try and catch the ball at the same time for it to go incomplete - poor from Davis.

The other thing that bugs me about the bottom gif is it shows Davis' habit of having to / frequently jumping to catch the ball when there is no need to. It's like he finds it hard to run and catch and the same time - so he jumps so he doesn't have to worry about his feet while he's in the air. I love him as a player, but don't think he has been as effective as he could / should be.

Started shakey again though, Davis with 2 fumbles and getting in the way of a sure TD, I know he's been out but he was really frustrating me last night.

Yep. One thing I will say about the Niners over the past few years is they seem to do just enough - they struggle to put teams away, but come up with the right play at the right time.

Problem is that means you will struggle against the top teams. In fact, our last two post-season losses could be argued to be more down to what we did wrong, rather than being soundly beaten.

Agree with this.

It was the championship game last year that really stung, great block in the last second to beat us! I was already up and cheering and just slunk slowly back in my seat thinking wtf!

To be honest I'm still gutted about the Super Bowl. Being inside the 5 and needing a TD to go ahead...and we try 3 straight pass plays when we have Gore in the backfield (especially considering it was his runs on that drive that took us down close to their goal line).

Also, am pretty sure that before those 3 incomplete passes, we were going to run Kap on a run to the outside - but the game clock was close to expiring (shock horror!!) and the sideline called a TO. The play actually started before the refs called it dead, and Kap would have had a one-on-one to get into the end zone.

I still remember this, my first game of American Football I watched through completely.

My friend was trying to get me to support the 49ers but that lame performance put me right off.

Aye.

We have had back to back heartbreak. This could be a good year, but we have to stop giving away needless personal fouls and penalties, it would also help if we stopped gifting Touchdowns in the first quarter of games.

Shocked my Boys are doing so well. I still anticipate the inevitable implosion with Romo getting all the blame (unjustly).

Interesting stat I heard on Mike & Mike this morning. The 2014 Dallas D is giving up the exact same yards per play as it did in 2013 (when it was dead last); 6.1 yard per play. The difference is the offense is keeping the ball much longer, nearly 35:00 per game compared to nearly 29:00 last season. That results in fewer offensive plays for the opposition; 68 per game in 2013 compared to 56 per game this season. This equates to approximately 72-73 fewer yards allowed per game which equals fewer points against and less opposition drives. According to Mike & Mike, the defensive player of the year so far is the Dallas offense, which is converting third downs at an insane 56% rate, tops in the league.

Zach Martin has been a great draft selection. Recall Jerry wanted Manziel and was overruled by his son and the front office staff (amazing he allowed it, he must be getting soft in his old age). This Martin kid is a stud and solidified that OL, which needs one more stud and it will have the potential to rival the 90s Boys OL and the Hogs of the 80s.

Yep - it sounds a bit arrogant to say that we beat ourselves, rather than other teams beating us, but I think there is some truth to it.

I think this season will depend on the next few games. We will have Aldon Smith back after week 9, which will make use much better defensively with regard to getting pressure on the QB. Also Bowman should be back at some point, although he won't be 100% until next season, but that will also help us. Then at some point Brock will be back also. I think our D has been outstanding, considering it has been without its best pass rusher, LB (I put Willis and Bowman on the same level, although last season thought Bowman was better), and CB in Brock. Am just hoping Willis is able to play against the Broncos.

Important game tonight. Need to follow up the previous 2 impressive performances with another against the Jets, and hopefully that will allow us to take some control over the division.

RB situation will be interesting with Ridley out. I hope we maintain the balance between pass and run instead of putting it all on Brady.

Good drive but hold them to the FG.

Let's go Brady...

Defending the run has been a struggle most of the season.

I think Bill's trying to kill Amendola by having him return KOs.

Vereen!! Nice catch.

Great protection that drive.

Good half, competitive game.

Jets have controlled the ball well on offense but we've done a good job holding them to FGs. Still need to defend better against the run, it's been an issue all season.

Hopefully Pats get this game won. Rex is still a cnut, but kudos on the weight loss.
